Wii U

Epic Games design director Cliff Bleszinski has a fairly positive outlook on Nintendo’s new console. He told Reddit users last week that he’ll be “watching the Wii U closely”, and while he believes that the Big N “may have initially lost a little of their core with the Wii for a bit”, he thinks “they seem to have realized this.”

Below is Bleszinski’s response in full:

“Being raised on All Things Nintendo I will always I love all things Nintendo. I’ll be watching the Wii U closely. I think Nintendo may have initially lost a little of their core with the Wii for a bit, honestly, and they seem to have realized this. I believe they also recognize that we live in a ‘multi-screen’ culture hence the controller design. I played ZombiU at PAX and it was promising (even though the controls could use a little loving!) so we’ll have to wait and see. I sometimes wonder if we’ll find ourselves in a PC/Phone/Tablet future, honestly.”

A few Wii U-related comments from Firebrand creative director Peter Shea can be found below. He provides his Wii U impressions – and says the studio’s multiplatform title is running “just fine” on the console – notes how Nintendo shouldn’t be underestimated, and more.

Nnooo has been one of Nintendo’s strongest digital supporters. The studio produced Pop for WiiWare as soon as the service went live, and has also released a number of DSiWare downloads.

Unsurprisingly, Nnooo has confirmed that it is making a game for the Wii U eShop. It’s in the concept phase, but creative director Nic Watt and business director Bruce Thomson were willing to share a few vague tidbits about its new project.

Head past the break for details.

Firebrand Games is working on a multiplatform title that will be coming to Wii U.

I could be wrong here, but I would think that the studio would be working on Need for Speed Hot Pursuit. Criterion is busy working on the PS3/360/PC/Vita versions, so assuming the racer is also coming to Wii U, EA probably asked Firebrand to make the Wii U edition.

Activision confirmed Goldfinger as the final movie-inspired mission in 007 Legends today.

In 007 Legends, the Goldfinger mission finds the best undercover agent early in his career investigating Auric Goldfinger – a gold magnate thought to be behind a recent spike in gold prices – only to discover a larger plot to irradiate the entire Fort Knox gold reserve.

In order to thwart the plot, Bond takes action to infiltrate Goldfinger’s headquarters with help from a questionable acquaintance – Pussy Galore. Upon arrival at Fort Knox, 007 is tasked with defusing a nuclear bomb before it detonates, and the only thing standing between Bond and the bomb is Goldfinger’s henchman – Oddjob – and his notoriously deadly hat. Will Bond be able to defeat Oddjob? Will Goldfinger’s evil plans succeed?

The other playable missions are Die Another Day, Moonraker, Licence to Kill and On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.

A few more quotes from Pokemon Black/White 2 producer Junichi Masuda can be found below.

Masuda answered questions about a possible Black/White 3 game, discussed his interest in the 3DS, and commented on a request to make another Pokemon Snap for Wii U. Sadly, it doesn’t sound like he’s interested, but he did tease Black/White 2 for the console – sounds like he was joking about that one!

A close inspection of the Wii U’s North American boxart reveals some of the console’s features.

Most importantly, the system will include an application called “Wii U Chat”. This will likely allow users to communicate with video over Wi-Fi.

Other items mentioned on the box:

  • Make and share new Mii characters
  • Easily interact with friends, family and people around the world with Miiverse
  • Download add-on content, full games, classic games and applications from Nintendo eShop (all contents sold separately).
  • Communicate with other Wii U owners in real time with Wii U Chat
