Capcom’s Okami and Monster Hunter Freedom Development Teams receive top honors at CEDEC AWARDS

We posted about this yesterday, but Capcom has sent out a press release regarding the awards for their titles…
– Capcom receives high marks for its game design techniques and for establishing a new style of communication –
Capcom Co., Ltd. (Capcom) is pleased to announce that the hit titles “Okami” and “Monster Hunter Freedom” have received the highest award in the Visual Arts and Game Design categories at the CEDEC AWARDS (sponsored by the Computer Entertainment Suppliers Association). The awards were announced at the CESA Developers Conference 2009 (CEDEC 2009) held from September 1st to 3rd.
“Okami” is a nature-themed action game in which the hero takes on the form of a wolf named Amaterasu and does battle with ghouls and ghosts in order to restore nature’s beauty to a devastated world. It delivers an audacious visual interpretation of nature and animals, rich and beautiful, rendered in a vivid Japanese-style through unique design techniques that do not rely on tone shaders. Since its release in 2006, Okami has garnered numerous awards, and continues to expand the possibilities of visual artwork within a game with the scheduled all-new October 2009 release of Okami for the Wii®.

Dead Space Extraction sales may influence EA’s decision to produce more mature Wii games
Posted on 16 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii | 3 Comments
“One of the explanations we have is that there’s a lot of double ownership. So people having a Wii and a 360 and/or PS3. They’re really playing different types of games on those two machines, and historically up to know we assume those people will have played the more mature content on the more high-tech machine. Dead Space: Extraction is going to be a very nice test of that hypothesis, because we’re really building a game where the Wii version is very different to the Dead Space game on 360 and PS3, and we’ll actually see whether we can reach more people with a) a great game and b) interesting content. If that’s not going to work, then obviously the whole proposal from our point of view at least of more mature games on the Wii just does not work.” – Dr Jens Uwe Intat, European VP at Electronic Arts
Whether or not you’re interested in horror titles, I think most of us can agree that Dead Space Extraction is a quality game. Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean EA will see positive sales. We’ll have to see how the game performs, but I do hope it sells more than MadWorld.

Upcoming Entertainment Title Enables Families to Interact With Popular Fairy Tales and Fables From Around the World
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. – September 2nd, 2009 – Konami Digital Entertainment Inc. today announced Storybook Workshop for the Wii, an exciting new initiative in their family-friendly games catalogue to reach pre-school children. Scheduled to be released this fall in North America, Storybook Workshop immerses kids and their parents in 16 classic children’s fairy tales and fables and many other exciting features. Through the use of the included USB microphone, you can read along, record and play back readings of your favorite stories, including the most beloved tales from Hans Christian Andersen, the Brothers Grimm, Aesop and around the world. Storybook Workshop’s unique microphone functionality will even magically change your voice to sound like the characters in the stories, including fairies, giants and robots! Continue the fun with your children in a lively sing-along room where nursery rhymes come to life right in front your children’s eyes, and watch as they learn rhythm, language, numbers and shapes in the exciting Play & Learn mode. Your kids can track their progress by using a virtual sticker pad, which will get pre-schoolers excited and motivated to continue to read and complete the stories.
In addition to all the wonderful reading attractions with Storybook Workshop, kids are able to create memories and tap into their creativity simply by using the sound of their voice and “painting” colorful masterpieces that they are able to display on their own personal virtual easel. With all this and more, Storybook Workshop will transform family story time into a wonderfully memorable, fun and enriching experience with your pre-schooler.
