Wii

“As you’ve probably heard, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom is kind of a big deal. Coming out of E3 Tatsunoko vs. Capcom has snagged tons of awards and nominations as Best Fighting Game, including the coveted Game Critics award. Now that you’ve had your turn, the public has its first chance to get its hands on Tatsunoko vs. Capcom at Anime Expo in Anaheim, Calif. this weekend. Expo attendees can visit Booth 437/439 to deal out a few billion damage points and perform amazing Hyper combos with the latest fighting game in Capcom’s Vs. series.” – Capcom

I’m not sure how many of you will be attending the Anime Expo this weekend, but you should definitely check out this game if you have some time to spare!

“We wanted to see ‘is there an audience out there that will play something completely different on the Wii?’. Commercially, we were not pleased with how it was received, but again, the critics loved it and that happens in this business sometimes…We don’t have a good post-mortem on [Deadly Creatures], but one of the key things that we can build on there is we have great — that was [developed by] one our internal studios, Rainbow Studios — and we have great Wii technology there now and so we’re developing other games — stay tuned for the announcements — but we intend to leverage that great technology on the Wii in the future.” – THQ CEO Brian Farrell

You know, I actually wasn’t expecting Deadly Creatures to be a commercial success and I’m sure I’m not the only one who felt that way. Deadly Creatures 2 probably isn’t in the cards for Wii at this point, but I’m interested in seeing the types of titles THQ/Rainbow Studios will create in the future.

“House of the Dead: Overkill was a profitable title for us. Whilst it had a rather sharp tail at full price, they do bubble away at a lower price point for a long time. You get your money back and a bit on full price, but over the years, if we do the final product return on investment, profits come from the lower price point. You have to push boundaries and explore. I think whilst MadWorld commercially didn’t sell what we were expecting I wouldn’t say it’s game over for mature Wii titles from Sega. We’re taking a look at the resources we have now. We’ve got money to invest in development, we’re just considering where to invest it next.” – Gary Dunn, MD of European development for Sega

I honestly was worried about SEGA’s future decisions regarding mature Wii titles. After sales of both MadWorld and House of the Dead were reported, I wasn’t too sure if the Wii had any chance of receiving similar titles from the company down the line.

Wii Sports Resort

– It’ll sell a lot
– They’ve all had a chance to play it
– Only 1 or 2 duds
– Craig doesn’t like cycling
– Just sit there and drum the controllers for cycling
– Some games clearly not MotionPlus
– Airplane game probably not using the attachment (if it does, probably for the hell of it)
– The airplane game still feels good…Makes Craig want Pilotwings
– Have noticed a lot of drift – As you’re playing it gets out of calibration
– Can push down on d-pad with sword fighting for calibration – Not ideal
– Weird that this is sort of the revision 2 of the Wiimote and we still have to deal with these issues
– Don’t have as much control in frisbee golf compared to the dog-throwing mode
– Matt really enjoying archery – gives you a really long range (depth) to the course – Get a taste, then you wish it isn’t as shallow
– Wind should play a bigger factor in archery
– Wii Sports Bowling is the same game
