Keynote Details Nintendo DSi News on Eve of Launch

SAN FRANCISCO, March 25, 2009 – Nintendo President Satoru Iwata today revealed surprises for consumers and an expanded palette of video game development opportunities for the industry during his keynote address at the Game Developers Conference. Iwata announced a new storage solution for Nintendo’s Wii™ home console and showed video highlights of a new Nintendo DS™ game from The Legend of Zelda™ franchise.

Video game developers now have expanded opportunities given that worldwide shipments for the Wii system surpassed 50 million units and worldwide shipments for the Nintendo DS franchise are at more than 100 million units. Iwata said, “It is in the power of game developers to invent things that gamers have never seen – or even imagined – before.”


Line-up includes Two WiiWare titles and FINAL FANTASY series for Wii Virtual Console

GAME DEVELOPERS CONFERENCE, SAN FRANCISCO, CA (25th March, 2009) – Square Enix Co., Ltd. (Square Enix) announced today at the Game Developers Conference (GDC), the forthcoming releases of new downloadable titles including FINAL FANTASY IV: THE AFTER YEARS™ and FINAL FANTASY CRYSTAL CHRONICLES®: My Life as a Darklord™ for WiiWare™, as well as the FINAL FANTASY® series for the Virtual Console™ for Wii™.

The release of these new downloadable titles represent Square Enix’s recognition of the growing demand for online distribution of content/services, and the commitment they have made to provide content/services that match the needs of their customers.

Satoru Iwata revealed today that a number of Final Fantasy games will be available for the VC/WiiWare.

– Final Fantasy IV: The After Years releasing for WiiWare later this year
– Final Fantasy titles will become available for the VC
– Sequel to Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King confirmed


It was revealed today that a demo of Rock & Roll Climber, a new WiiWare game from Nintendo, will soon become available.

– Mountain climbing title – NOT Ice Climber
– Shift weight, reach top of mountain
