WHITE PLAINS, NY-Jan. 23, 2009 – City Interactive, an international video game publisher and developer, today announced it has signed an agreement with Nintendo of America to develop and publish titles for the Nintendo DS™ and Wii™.

Ubisoft recently reconfirmed that a sequel to Red Steel is on the way. Though the first game largely received critical review scores, sales of the game have been high. The company did state that the game will incorporate Wii MotionPlus but were unwilling to discuss additional details. The game is expected to release before March 2010.

– intro video is live-action B-movie style video. It’s the young woman we saw from the first trailer
– very fast gameplay
– character conversations are very B-movie like
– framerate issues with 2 players when in populated areas
– every chapter has its own movie poster
– narrator introduces the action
– Character traits: Washington is hyper-aggressive in the humorous way. Agent G is a very patient man.
– game is big on foul language
– level settings: House, forest with a river running through it, carnival, hospital, train and more
– unlockable mode allows for dual wielding
– reload by shaking or shooting after the reload message pops up

“We’re very thankful that this title has been received so well, and as we see that there is demand from both Japanese and American fans, we would definitely like to consider the possibility of a sequel. Since it is not possible to get right into development at this moment, please give us a little more time…Since The World Ends With You was specifically created for the DS, it would probably take on a very different form if it entered the console scene. Even though the Wii and DS seem similar, the stylus and Wii-remote are completely different, so naturally some alterations would become necessary to adjust the game for the Wii. Of course, the dual-screen element would have to be interpreted differently as well, but the most important thing would be to retain the essence of what makes The World Ends With You YOU what it is. The exhilarating high-speed action is a vital part of the game, so we would probably be careful to preserve that aspect when adjusting it for a new console.”

“Nintendo do not set prices. It is up to retailers at what price they sell any item for. However, our trade price for these games will be below our usual trade price for Wii games and our present estimate of the likely retail price is in the region of GBP 29.99.” – Nintendo statement

I’m pretty much in agreement with those who say the remakes are overpriced. If the titles were just $10 less, I think buying the Play on Wii products would be a great buy.
