Wii U eShop

While speaking with Shacknews, Yacht Club’s Sean Velasco discussed the Wii U version of Shovel Knight.

Just two weeks were needed to bring Shovel Knight to the system, according to Velasco. It was done by an engine programmer and the game was ported over completely.

Velasco also shared some of the ideas Yacht Club is thinking about for Shovel Knight on the GamePad:

“We were thinking we could do a bestiary, where you kill a guy and you get to read about him. We were also thinking of doing something that uses the MiiVerse a bit more. We love how in New Super Mario Bros. U, after you die, you’ll see a message after you die. Since our game is room-based, we were thinking that maybe with every room you go to, you could query a Miiverse message from the GamePad.”

A new Doctor Strange table will be released for Marvel Pinball (through Zen Pinball 2) later this year, Zen Studios has announced.

Here’s the official overview:

Strange’s rival sorcerer Baron Mordo has called upon the demonic forces of the Dread Dormammu and the Fear Lord, Nightmare, all part of his plot to assume the mantle of Sorcerer Supreme for himself. Meanwhile, Shuma-Gorath, the Lord of Chaos, resides in the background with nefarious plans of his own…

Numerous voiceover lines and situations were adapted straight from 50 years of Doctor Strange comic books for this table, including the classic first two issues of DOCTOR STRANGE, SORCERER SUPREME (1988), wherein Dormammu threatened our dimension by overtaking Strange in his own body. Only with carefully cast spells (i.e., deadeye shots from you, the player) does Strange hope to stand a chance against inconceivable odds.

Doctor Strange will be available in December. Screenshots can be found above.

QubicGames has already shown support for the 3DS eShop through 2 Fast 4 Gnomz and AiRace Speed. However, the studio has significant interest in the Wii U as well.

In an upcoming interview with Nintendo Everything, QubicGames expressed a desire to get a game out on the system’s eShop within the next year. The company is in the process of preparing its C-Way engine so that it can be used on Wii U.

According to QubicGames:

“We are already authorized developers for Wii U. We have the devkits and we currently prepare our own game engine C-Way to feature the proper technology to handle development on Wii U. We do hope that we could release a game on Nintendo Wii U in the next 12 months.”

Before shelving Toki Tori 2’s level editor on Wii U, Two Tribes looked into a number of different possibility in hopes of realizing the functionality. One of these was to have Nintendo and Valve working together, and it sounds like things progressed pretty far before the idea was ultimately scrapped.

Two Tribes’ Martijn Reuvers told Kotaku that the studio’s “dream was basically to let users create levels on whatever platform they’d prefer and that they would be able to share it through Steam Workshop.” Players on Wii U would be able to login to Steam, similar to how Portal handled things on the PlayStation 3.

Sadly, it wasn’t met to be. Reuvers explained, “”After doing a thorough technical check, we decided that in order to create a near seamless integration, we needed more functionality that was out of our control.”

A new action RPG, Reborn, has launched on Kickstarter for funding. The game “fuses Japanese lore with a futuristic cyberpunk western themed Japan created by a small passionate indie team.” East and west influences are incorporated into Reborn’s structure.

Developer Elemental-Labs is seeking $200,000 to make Reborn a reality and bring it to the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PC. The tricky part is a Wii U and Xbox One stretch goal at $1.09 million. That’s quite a hefty figure, but with 28 days remaining in the Kickstarter campaign, hopefully that target can be met.

You can find the official Reborn Kickstarter page here.

Hyper Light Drifter will be making its way to Wii U after reaching a stretch goal on Kickstarter. The $550,000 target was surpassed just a short while ago.

There’s still a little under two days remaining in the Hyper Light Drifter campaign, though it’s not clear what stretch goal lies ahead. Something extra will be unlocked at $600,000, but the specifics haven’t been confirmed just yet.
