Wii U eShop

Liege developer John Rhee has informed us that his game has been approved for Wii U, and the console has been added in on Kickstarter as a stretch goal. Once total funds hit $51,000, Liege will officially come to Wii U. The Kickstarter total currently stands at just over $46,000 with four days remaining.

Liege is planned for launch in early 2014. However, the Wii U release will come slightly after other versions due to the fact that its approval came later in the campaign.

You can find more information on the official Kickstarter page here.

One new Virtual Console game is on track for the Japanese Wii U eShop next week. Famicom Tantei Club Part II: Ushiro ni Tatsu Shōjo, a Super Famicom release, will be out on July 31. Pricing is set at 800 yen.

EarthBound finally launched on the Wii U eShop last week, and its arrival was greeted by much fanfare. There was just one peculiar aspect about the game’s launch though: a fairly high price point.

Nintendo had set the pricing of SNES titles on the Wii U VC to be $7.99. EarthBound costs a little more, coming in at $9.99. It’s not the biggest difference in the world, but it is enough for people to wonder why EarthBound costs more than the average SNES release.

Unfortunately, you won’t get much of an answer out of Nintendo. When asked for a comment, the company would only say:

“As for EarthBound, Nintendo sets prices in the Nintendo eShop and Virtual Console on a game-by-game basis. Different games will be offered at different prices.”
