The low-down on Wii U’s parental controls
Posted on 12 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii U | 0 comments
Instruction manuals come in handy. They inform you about certain things, like the Wii U’s parental controls.
The Wii U’s book says that by enabling parental controls, System Settings options such as Internet Settings, System Transfers and the ability to format the system’s memory will all be blocked. It overall limits the viewing and downloading of content. You’ll need an identification number, created during the initial setup, to access these items.
Children could be potentially be blocked from certain games based on their ratings, all games’ online offerings, the Internet browser, the Wii U eShop, posting in and viewing Miiverse content, finding and registering new friends, and managing the console’s data.
How the Wii/Wii U transfer process works
Posted on 12 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii, Wii U | 3 Comments
The Wii to Wii U transfer process will be ready to go on day-one.
Here’s how the process works:
– Like the DS/3DS transfer
– Insert an SD card into the Wii U to initiate the process
– Use the Wii System Transfer app
– Once the process has been started, insert the same SD card into the Wii and download another transfer app from the Wii Shop Channel
– This app moves data over to the card
– Then need to put the card back into the Wii U
– Wii data will then be moved to the console and deleted from the card
You’ll be able to bring over the following content from the Wii:
– Wii Software save data
– WiiWare and save data
– Virtual Console titles and save data
– Add-on content
– Wii Points
– Wii Shop Channel activity
– Mii characters
Wii and Wii U use the same RCA cables?
Posted on 12 years ago by Austin(@NE_Austin) in News, Wii, Wii U | 0 comments
I do not own an HDTV. I know, I’m behind on the times and all that, but I haven’t seen a need to get one just yet! One thing that concerned me though was that Wii U only came with an HDMI cable, which I (for obvious reasons) had no use for. My fears can be put to rest it seems, because while watching IGN’s Wii U un-boxing video I noticed that the back of the console appears to use the same RCA output jack as the Wii. Take a look:
You may also note that the power jacks look very similar as well, but further inspection reveals that they are actually flipped from each other, meaning (understandably) one could not swap their power cables between the two consoles. The sensor bar input jack is– predictably– also the same as well.
GamePad battery life lasts 3-5 hours, takes 2.5 hours to recharge

Now that the press has started to receive final, retail Wii U builds, further details about the consoles are starting to circulate.
Battery power for the Wii U Pro Controller has been reconfirmed. This will last around 80 hours, and falls in line with GameStop’s listing from a few weeks back. It takes 4.5 hours to recharge.
The GamePad’s battery life isn’t nearly as long. It’ll last for three to five hours, and takes 2.5 hours to recharge.
