Recently, Famitsu had its first coverage on Etrian Odyssey X. The magazine’s feature included an interview with director Shigeo Komori. During the discussion, Komori weighed in on the game’s inception, including a world map, and the new “Hero” class.

You can find resposnes to these comments below. RPG Site has the full interview here.

On how Etrian Odyssey X came to be…

Komori: The first opportunity was that, after we released Etrian Odyssey V to the world, we listened to various requests from all our users.

We made EOV as a compilation with a direction of challenging new things on the systems, jobs, world settings and more, as we used the know-how we’ve gathered throughout the series. I think people were able to enjoy that point. But on the other hand, I feel like there are also many people who expected a direction of gathering the good points in the past series instead of just entirely new things.

That’s when we came to think we should create one more compilation that combines systems and jobs that have been supported by everyone in particular.

On how Etrian Odyssey X has a world map…

Komori: Actually we had wanted to do this for quite some time, and we’re finally able to realize it now. Numerous dungeons exist all across the World Map, and by fulfilling certain requirements you can go to new places or even trigger events.

If you include dungeons that are not required to clear the game, this has the highest volume in the series, and I think it will satisfy people who want to draw lots of maps.

Since this is the last series title appearing on Nintendo 3DS, I’ll be glad if you play this game thoroughly.

On the new Hero class…

And as for the Hero’s position, since popular jobs from each numbered titles have gathered, we thought of adding a “new job” that won’t lose both in looks and abilities. We’re planning for it to be a very protagonist-like job while having new things that wouldn’t let it get buried by the returning jobs.

Since it is a newly appearing job, there should be a lot of people who “want to try putting them into the party,” so we adjusted it to be an easy-to-use all-around type which can attack, defend, and also heal.
