Tennis

Tennis, anyone? Take to the court and serve up thrilling end-to-end action in this classic racket sport. Expertly chain together lobs, drop shots and more at just the right time to keep your opponents on their toes.

Mix it up

In tennis, it’s all about timing, positioning and, more crucially, choosing the right shot for the job. Lob opponents who’re adopting a high line, or pepper deep-sitters with some power shots into the far corner, using the Circle Pad to aim. Keep the rally going for a chance to unleash a blazing Ultra Smash and really overwhelm the opposition!

Simply sublime

Wield your racket like a pro and fend off all-comers to take top spot in the tournaments. Wow the crowd by performing acrobatic jump shots and showy chance shots, or, if you’d prefer, play in Simple mode for a more straightforward tennis experience where your speed, strategy and reactions become even more crucial!

Double the fun

Just like in the other sports, you can play solo or with others. Up to four can play via Local Play or online*. Struggling to get the numbers? You can tap in a Mario Sports Superstars amiibo card (sold separately or as part of a software bundle), and have that character join as your very own Doubles partner, so there’s always someone to play with!

Golf

Fore! For something a bit more laid back, grab your clubs and head to the fairway for a few rounds of Golf. From the leafy pines of Emerald Woods to the sandy slopes of Crystal Beach, go from link to link and tackle the tournaments in golfing action that’s anything but par for the course.

As with the other sports, you can take a swing at computer-controlled opponents, or putt your skills to the test against friends near or far with Local Play and online* options.

Tee off!

Choose the right club for the shot and swing away, taking into account the distance, wind strength and terrain. Advanced players can use the manual shot mode for extra precision, allowing you to strike the ball more accurately to add curve and spin to your drives.

You can cycle through several different camera options with the Touch Screen, so whether you’re teeing off or lining up that nerve-racking Birdie putt on the green, you can always get the best view of the action.

In Stroke Play, you call the shots – play up to nine holes and affect environmental settings like the wind strength, as well as the tee position and hole order. Brush up on your approach play in the training mode, or take on the Ring Challenge to prove your putting prowess.

Horse Racing

Leap into the saddle of your very own race horse and don’t stop ‘til you’ve cleared the final furlong. In this high-speed sport, you’ll go neck-and-neck with other racers as you dodge obstacles, leap over hazards and dash to the finish line. Up to six players can race together via Local Play or jump online*.

And they’re off!

Choose your jockey and horse, then speed around 12 different courses set in four distinct areas, each with its own look and feel. Tracks are littered with useful pick-ups, like stamina-replenishing carrots and special-building Stars, so there’s plenty of opportunity to giddy-up and get ahead.

Once you’ve grabbed enough Stars, unleash your Star Dash to get an incredible speed boost and rush to the front of the pack. You can even perform double jumps to reach high-up items and get the upper hand on the opposition.

Stick together

Naturally, you’ll be eager to get to the front of the pack, but don’t get too far ahead – horses actually run faster when they’re galloping together. This phenomenon is known as the Herd Effect, and it means that streaming off way out in front is a bad idea. Steady yourself, stay with the chasing pack and use your dash wisely.

Take a break

After an exhausting race, head to the Stable and reward your trusty steed with some well-deserved R&R. You can feed, pet, and brush your horse, or if you fancy an open-air stroll, why not take it for a walk? By looking after your horse and keeping it in tip-top condition, you’ll improve its Mood, so it’ll perform better on race day. You can unlock new accessories for it to wear, too!

amiibo

Become a Superstar with the new range of Mario Sports Superstars amiibo cards (sold separately or as part of a software bundle)! Set your Mushroom Kingdom heroes on the road to superstardom, boost their stats and abilities, and achieve dream team status with these collectible cards.

There are five cards to collect for each character – that’s one for each sport! Packs are available to purchase separately, and there are 90 cards to collect in total. Can you grab them all?

Some kind of Superstar

Once you’ve achieved Star Character status with one of your characters, you can tap in an amiibo card of that character to begin a fun minigame called Road to Superstar. If you’re successful, that character will then become a Superstar! Superstar characters are at the top of their game, and you can even use them in multiplayer to get the upper hand on friends and foes.

What’s more, you can use amiibo cards to unlock cool new gear for your characters to use, like tennis rackets, baseball bats and more.

Software bundle

Look out for specially-marked packs of Mario Sports Superstars at launch, which include one randomly selected amiibo card as well as a handy chart, so you can keep track of your collection!
