Let’s Talk #31: Have you tried out Nintendo Badge Arcade?

Nintendo Badge Arcade hit the Japanese 3DS eShop in December 2014. It wasn’t until last week though that the app came out in the west. Now that it’s here, have you given it a shot? Do you believe it was worth the wait?

I admit I’ve been checking in on Nintendo Badge Arcade daily since its release. What’s funny about that is how I’m interested in the collective aspect more than anything else. I’m not really a creative person, and I don’t intend to load up my home menu with badges. There’s something there though that I keep coming back to. I boot up the app, visit the practice catcher, and usually use my free play. It’s easy and quick enough to get the job done! I can’t say I’m inclined to spend any cash on Nintendo Badge Arcade, however.

Now share your thoughts with us in the comments below! What do you think of Nintendo Badge Arcade?

Highlights from last week’s topic: What did you think of this week’s Nintendo Direct?

I kept my expectations low and was definitely surprised.
Titles I wasn’t even interested in looked appealing to me, such as Twilight Princess HD, Final Fantasy Explorers and Star Fox Zero.
Their brief indie coverage stuck to upcoming games meant to appeal to various different audiences, as it should.
The brief advertisement for Yokai Watch was another great sketch, whoever writes and directs those should get a raise.
Linkle was a surprise, as was the Gold Mega Man amiibo.
I was surprised that the typical Super Smash Bros. intro was absent from Cloud’s reveal trailer until it was uploaded seperately (and at the time of posting that video remains unlisted), but it definitely hyped up something big, and delivered.
I’m glad that things like the Special Editions and the Dragon Quest remakes were announced for the west.
The only things I could say I expected but didn’t see were information on Metroid Prime: Federation Force and information on Genei Ibun Roku #FE, both arriving in 2016. Could these be coming later than we expected? Perhaps.

I still don’t like Nintendo Badge Arcade and Mighty No. 9 should be ignored completely. But those were merely ripples in a pool full of quality content.

I feel like it did a lot of what it needed to. I’ve seen more people coming around to Starfox, it reassured people that Zelda is in fact coming in 2016 to the WiiU, and it continued to remind people that there are games coming to everything that can appeal to everyone. Some are farther off than others, and there’s a bit of a drought right now, but we still have things coming. Meanwhile, the Cloud announcement was, of course, the biggest bombshell they could have dropped. I have mixed feelings on it, as a lot of people do. There are other Final Fantasy characters that I feel would have fit better, like Celes, Terra, Cecil, any of the standard Warriors of Light, or even just having Mog/a Moogle in. But, at the same time, Cloud is easily the most iconic Final Fantasy character (okay, second, behind Sephiroth, but Sakurai is not going to put the villain of a game in before the protagonist). He’s in there not necessarily to represent Final Fantasy VII, but rather Final Fantasy as a whole. In that sense, I will take Cloud being in over no Final Fantasy character being in.

The direct was great, too bad they didn’t specify what sort of new content they added to Twilight Princess HD, they only said TLoZ amiibos were compatible and you could import data from TP to Zelda U using the Wolf Link amiibo so I guess we’ll have to wait to know how that will work… Star Fox Zero looks better, better textures (most noticeably on the vehicles) and much better lightning, Splatoon’s new content is awesome, can’t wait to play the resort map and I like the new gear that was added since I had already bought every single piece of gear in the game

The best part for me was Cloud’s reveal trailer, it’s just incredible, no one saw that coming, words aren’t enough to describe how amazing that is but I agree with what Maximilian Dood from YouTube said: ”It’s done, Smash Bros. is like the greatest game ever made”, my reaction when watching that reveal trailer was pretty much the same as his and I can’t wait to see december’s special broadcast where they’ll probably reveal the last DLC coming to the game and make Cloud available for purchase at the same time

I would say that I was neutral on it. I don’t care at all about Yo-kai Watch, Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival, or Smash U. As for Star Fox, I admit to being frustrated that they haven’t confirmed other controllers so far.

I am also pretty frustrated that I haven’t seen any of the announced special editions available for pre-orders in Canada yet. I actually very much want them.

Twilight Princess HD to me isn’t a huge draw, but I was looking for an excuse to play it again. I am very happy however that it seems to be based off the Gamecube version, which has the better controls by far.

I am excited for Xenoblade Chronicles X, but I knew everything the direct told me about due to the game being released in Japan for a long while.

I am disappointed that we didn’t get more content updates for Super Mario Maker as the potential for this game could be infinite.

Linkle seems like she will be very fun in Hyrule Warriors, so I’m pleasantly surprised. Honestly, it was the most interesting new for me.

I’m was also hoping for a Monster Hunter X NA release date. I want to get into the series with my best friend.

I think that the Triforce Heroes updates are nice (albeit, I can see how the Linebeck costume might somewhat be unfair to other players as you get to choose the rare materials). I still am not interested in the game however.

While I don’t have any interest in Smash U, I hope that this means that we can expect FF7 to come to NX. Otherwise, I would find it a bit insulting after the great marketing this would give to the game.

Dragon Quest games are always nice to have around, and I’m happy especially for those who asked for DQ7 to be translated for years. At least, the fan translations didn’t get shut down for no reason. The 3DS is still looking to be a great platform for RPGs, and that is exciting enough.

So i give this a pass, but they seriously need to be open about the controllers their games support. To me at the very least, it is upsetting being on the fence until the game is finally released (hence not allowing me to preorder).

It was decent. Not amazing, but much better than their E3. So I give them credit for that
