microSD cards tested to work with the New 3DS XL

Are you wondering about which microSD cards are officially supported by the New 3DS? Well, wonder no longer!

Nintendo has started putting up support pages for the New 3DS XL on its North American website, with one that details microSD cards that have been tested to work with the system. You’ll find all of the notable information below.

The New Nintendo 3DS XL system comes with a 4GB microSDHC card for game save data and downloadable software.

If you wish to upgrade your microSDHC card, the following storage devices work with the New Nintendo 3DS XL system. The New Nintendo 3DS XL system can utilize up to a 2GB microSD card and up to a 32GB microSDHC card. The following devices have been subjected to basic performance tests by Nintendo:

To optimize performance and ensure a consistent experience, all microSD cards and microSDHC cards should be formatted and configured for use with the New Nintendo 3DS XL system.

When formatting microSD cards and microSDHC cards, it is recommended to use the “SD formatter” which is provided by HP of the SD Association and can be found here: https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4

Please be sure to back-up any content before formatting the microSD card or the microSDHC card for New Nintendo 3DS XL system as this content cannot be recovered.

Please note that we do not guarantee the performance of the microSD cards and microSDHC cards.

To access the microSD card or microSDHC card, you will need to remove the back plate of the New Nintendo 3DS XL. You will need a size #0 Philip’s head screwdriver to remove the back plate. Once the back plate has been removed, simply push the microSD card down to eject. Do not pull on the microSD card or microSDHC card as this will cause damage to your unit. Do not remove the microSD card or microSDHC card while your New Nintendo 3DS XL system is powered on.
