Super Mario RPG seems to have been made by ArtePiazza, uses Unity engine
Just a few days before launch, new information has surfaced for Super Mario RPG, including the developer behind the project and the engine that was used.
Square Enix was the developer for original game on the SNES. For the remake on Switch though, it’s been a bit of a question mark as to who’s actually behind the project. Now that pre-loading has started, we have a bit of insight.
ArtePiazza appears to be the main developer behind Super Mario RPG on Switch. This is shown in the “Intellectual Property Notices” for the game.
ArtePiazza is a name some may not be familiar with, but the company has been around for decades. The studio is largely known for its work on the Dragon Quest series – including the 2D mode for Dragon Quest XI. It also worked on Opoona for Wii with Koei Tecmo.
The same notices also seem to reveal that the Super Mario RPG remake was created with the Unity engine. Most Nintendo-published games don’t use that tech, but Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp and Fire Emblem Engage are a couple of titles that made use of it.
Super Mario RPG arrives for Switch on November 17, 2023. You can visit the official website here.
