Hollow Knight: Silksong

Some sort of extra content is in the works for Hollow Knight: Silksong that will be added after launch. That’s according to Ari Gibson and William Pellen, co-founders at Team Cherry.

The two were speaking with Bloomberg about the game’s development and the future. In that report, we hear that Team Cherry has “big plans to add extra content to Silksong in the months and years to come.” However, specifics have not been shared at this time.

Pellen and Gibson said:

Why Hollow Knight Silksong took so long

The team behind Hollow Knight: Silksong has spoken about why it’s taken so long for the game to launch.

After years of anticipation, the title is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch in just a couple of weeks. Team Cherry revealed today that the release date is set for September 4, 2025.

Hollow Knight Silksong release date

After a very long wait, Hollow Knight: Silksong finally received its release date today. Team Cherry just revealed that it’s due out on September 4, 2025.

Hollow Knight: Silksong has had an interesting development history, to say the least. Originally, it was planned as DLC for the series’ first entry before it was turned into its own game.

We previously mentioned that Hollow Knight: Silksong is playable on Nintendo Switch 2 at Gamescom 2025 this week, and we now have a first look with off-screen footage.

This is the first time fans are getting hands-on time with the title. On top of that, we’re now seeing it run on Nintendo’s new hardware for the first time. It’s actually the first extensive look since E3 during Nintendo Treehouse: Live way back in 2019.

Team Cherry has teased a “special announcement” for Hollow Knight: Silksong. News will be shared on August 21 at 7:30 AM PT / 10:30 AM ET / 3:30 PM in the UK / 4:30 PM in Europe.

It’s hard to imagine what this could be other than a release date. Fans have been waiting years for the game at this point, and most recently, Team Cherry committed to a 2025 launch. On top of that, we know that the title will be playable at Gamescom 2025, which starts tomorrow.

Here’s where you’ll be able to watch the Hollow Knight: Silksong announcement as it happens:

After years of waiting and mystery, Hollow Knight: Silksong is finally getting a playable version. Today, Team Cherry announced that fans will finally get a chance to play the game, but only in Australia for now.

Starting September 18, the game will be available to play at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) as part of an exhibition called Game Worlds. The event will also include displays focused on the game’s design and artistic direction.

The ACMI curators, Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell, spoke about the excitement of having a playable version of Silksong at the exhibition:

April 2: There’s an update on Hollow Knight: Silksong, with the game confirmed for Nintendo Switch 2. Additionally, the game launches in 2025.

This is our first real news about the game in quite some time. There’s unfortunately still not much else to report, but fans will be happy to hear that it’s trucking along – and we have a new, concrete launch window.

Hollow Knight Silksong 2025 update

Hollow Knight: Silksong fans are still clamoring for the game’s launch, and while there’s still nothing in the way of a release date, we do have a brief update from developer Team Cherry.

Over on X, Team Cherry PR and marketing head Matthew ‘Leth’ Griffin was asked about the project’s status. He said in response: “Yes the game is real, progressing and will release.”

Hollow Knight Silksong development update

Hollow Knight: Silksong fans will need to wait a bit longer for the game’s release.

On Twitter, Matthew Griffin – who’s handling marketing and publishing for the project – provided a brief update. He confirmed that the team was targeting the first half of 2023 for launch, “but development is still continuing.” He added: “We’re excited by how the game is shaping up, and it’s gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can.”
