Mario & Luigi: Brothership

November 6: Nintendo has made it a point to celebrate game releases with new icons on Switch Online, and now members can obtain new ones based on Mario & Luigi: Brothership.

Different icons will rotate out over the next few weeks. Icons can be claimed featuring characters, backgrounds, and frames. The characters cost 10 Platinum Points each. For backgrounds and frames, each one is 5 Platinum Points.

Fear of Glohm side quest

Today, we’re looking at Fear of Glohm, another missable side quest in Mario & Luigi: Brothership. After clearing a certain icy island (which we won’t specify by name until later in the post, for those of you avoiding spoilers), you’ll unlock two side quests: Fear of Glohm and A Big Debate, the latter of which being incredibly easy to clear. Both of these side quests are missable, and of the two, Fear of Glohm is a bit more involved.

monster mania 2 Mario Luigi Brothership

Today, we’re looking at Monster Mania 2, the second in a series of rather challenging side quests in Mario & Luigi: Brothership. Whereas the first of these quests pits you against a group of nearly-invincible Krodes, this one sees you fighting a group of Hydro Seedles with high HP and the ability to completely restore their health in a single turn. There’s certainly a trick to getting through this one, and the key will be to use abilities you’ll have unlocked very recently.

monster mania 1 side quest Mario Luigi Brothership

Today, we’re looking at Monster Mania 1, which is one of the standard side quests in Mario & Luigi: Brothership. Unlike other side quests we’ve reported on, this one is not missable and will remain available throughout the game’s main story. That being said, you might find it a little bit difficult if you don’t know what to do ahead of time. For this one, you need to take out three Krodes with ultra-high defense. Fortunately, there’s an easy solution to defeating them quickly with the help of Battle Plugs, a mechanic you’ll have been introduced to by the time you can take on this quest.

It's Dorrie side quest Mario Luigi Brothership

Today, we’re looking at It’s Dorrie, the third missable side quest in Mario & Luigi Brothership. This follows Arc’s Secret and Zokket’s Schemes, the first two missable side quests that become unavailable after you advance the story. This third side quest is available just before clearing the second Great Lighthouse, which comes roughly 12 hours into the game or so. If you’re not at that point and want to avoid story spoilers, it may be best to bookmark this page and come back once you start hearing about the second Great Lighthouse.

Mario & Luigi Brothership review

System: Switch
Release date: November 8, 2024
Developer: Nintendo
Publisher: Acquire / Nintendo

The last year or so has been a remarkable year for RPGs, especially ones with “Mario” in the title. We’ve already been graced with lavishly produced remakes of both Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door – and now, Nintendo is closing out the year with a brand new, wholly original RPG in the form of Mario & Luigi: Brothership. The Mario & Luigi series was originally helmed by Alphadream before their unfortunate closure in 2019, for Brothership, Nintendo has tapped Way of the Samurai and Tenchu developer Acquire to carry the torch forward. While the franchise’s new stewards have done an admirable job adhering to the series’ identity, some considerable missteps prevent the latest Mario & Luigi entry from reaching the lofty heights of its predecessors.

Lottacoins Island gate codes Mario Luigi Brothership

Somewhere around ten hours into Mario & Luigi Brothership, you’ll come across Lottacoins Island as part of the main quest. While we won’t go into any particular story details here, you’ll wind up having to figure out and then use codes to unlock gates to other areas. You’re supposed to find pieces of paper that show you an object, and from there you’re supposed to count the number of objects physically present in the area to determine the digit. But if you’re looking to skip all the searching, you’ve come to the right place – we have the Lottacoins Island gate codes so you can do just that.

Zokket's Schemes side quest Mario Luigi Brothership

Zokket’s Schemes is another one of Mario & Luigi: Brothership’s few missing side quests. It’s generally the second missable quest you’ll be able to take on within the game’s story, and as usual we’d recommend clearing it as soon as possible (as advancing the main story will render it impossible to finish). Here’s how to activate the Zokket’s Schemes side quest and what you get from completing it. There are very minor story spoilers within (area and location names), so make sure you’re okay with that before you continue.

Mario Luigi Brothership how long to beat

Now that Mario & Luigi: Brothership has officially launched, some fans might be curious as to how long it takes to beat the game.

As with all of the Mario RPG titles that have launched on Switch in the past year, Mario & Luigi: Brothership is a substantial experience with plenty of main story content as well as optional side quests to take on. For that reason, our time estimates for beating the game differ depending on if you’re speeding to the final boss or delving into all of the game’s side content.

Arc's Secret side quest Mario & Luigi Brothership

Arc’s Secret is one of Mario & Luigi: Brothership’s few missing side quests. It’s also most likely the first one you’ll be able to take on within the game’s story, and we’d recommend clearing it as soon as possible before you advance the main story. Here’s how to activate the side quest and what you get from completing it. There are very small story spoilers for the first five hours of the game within, so if you’re looking to avoid those details keep that in mind before you continue.
