In a new blog post, TowerFall developer Matt Thorson has provided in-depth information about the new version. We have a look at the game’s icon, news about nontraditional GameCube controller support, and a lot more.

Here’s the full rundown:

TowerFall has been dated for Switch. The game launches September 27, with the pre-purchase option coming today. Characters from Celeste will be included.

Celeste co-creator, programmer, and artist Noel Berry has indicated that a physical release is in the cards. In response to a petition created to generate interest in a boxed copy, Berry said that the team is “workin’ on it”. No further details were provided.

Matt Makes Games has several options on the table to make a physical version of Celeste happen. Limited Run Games is probably the biggest name out there, but we’ve also seen companies like Super Rare Games step in to produce physical versions of Switch titles.

Celeste is off to a very good start on Switch. The game has sold the most on Nintendo’s console, according to creator Matt Thorson.

Thorson told Destructoid in a new interview:

“The Switch version of Celeste has sold the most, and that’s what we were expecting. We feel like Celeste and the Switch are a perfect fit for each other. We are glad we launched on all consoles though, and we really appreciate the support we’ve seen across the board.”

Thorson hasn’t divulged any specific sales figures for Celeste. But as we’ve seen, it’s topping the Switch eShop charts.

This week, Matt Makes Games published its newest title Celeste, and it’s out now on Switch. But the developer had also previously announced that its last game TowerFall would also be released on the system. Although there hasn’t been much news to share, it hasn’t been cancelled.

Developer Matt Thorson provided the following update to IGN:

“Our plan was always to wrap up Celeste before working on the Switch TowerFall edition. Soon we’ll be freed up to bring that over! We know a lot of fans are eager to play TowerFall on the Switch, and I’m excited to see it on there myself. But it’s more important for us to move forward with Celeste and put all our energy into making it as good as possible before revisiting TowerFall again. We think fans of TowerFall will be surprised at how much we’ve improved and pushed ourselves to explore new creative territory in Celeste.”

TowerFall is 2D combat game with archers that bounce around arenas as they try to one-hit kill each other. We’ve included a trailer for it below.

Players have discovered a neat Super Mario Bros. 3 Easter egg hidden within Celeste. It’s a small one, but a nice homage nonetheless. We won’t spoil it here, though you can see it for yourself in the video below.
