The Game Awards 2014

The Game Awards 2014 will begin at 9 PM ET / 6 PM PT. Nintendo games are nominated for several awards, but will the company itself have something new to show? It appears the answer is yes, though we’ll only know for sure once the event finishes!

Nintendo is involved with tonight’s Game Awards, which isn’t entirely surprising. We know that several Nintendo-related games have been nominated for various categories, though it sounds like we can look forward to a few extra things as well.

Tim O’Leary, a staffer from NoA, has teased something for The Game Awards 2014. We should apparently be on the lookout during the start and end of the show.

Here’s the full tweet from O’Leary:

Ah, yes. Everyone loves speculation and news that may (or may not) turn out to be something interesting. So here we go.

Nintendo’s North American YouTube page has a playlist up for The Game Awards 2014, which is taking place later tonight. Right now, the only video included is the stream for the event.

Will more content be added after tonight’s awards presentation? Will Nintendo have something new to show – be it content for an existing game or a brand new game? You may remember that Reggie revealed Cranky Kong for Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze at last year’s event.

Of course, this could all turn out to be nothing. I suppose we’ll know once today is over!

The VGAs are no more. In its place? “The Game Awards 2014”.

Geoff Keighley is in charge of the event once again, though Spike TV is no longer involved. The Game Awards 2014 will take place on December 5 at 6 PM at the Axis Theater in Las Vegas. Tickets will go on sale tomorrow via TicketMaster.

Keighley has formed an advisory board that includes some very prominent names: Reggie Fils-Aime (President and COO, Nintendo of America), Yves Guillemot (Co-Founder and CEO, Ubisoft), Hideo Kojima (Director, Kojima Productions), Shawn Layden (CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment America), Peter Moore (COO, Electronic Arts), Rockstar Games, Phil Spencer (Head of Xbox, Microsoft), Martin Tremblay (President, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment) and Valve.

The Game Awards 2014 will feature awards as well as world premiers and musical performances, much like the VGAs. Additionally, there will be a bigger focus on game developers and the industry.

The Game Awards 2014 will not be shown on television. However, it will be live-streamed around the world.
