    >Olivia
Well apparently I’m in the game too. But wasn’t Oboro already in the game as playable? This news is great hopefully I’ll get them tomorrow? I know I won’t and it’s much later though.

    • Shiro

No Oboro, Niles, and Owain are NPCs.

      • Zeebor

And they have fully functioning movesets, just no “Class Change” outfits.

        • Dragonage2ftw

Movesets that are 100% stolen from generic enemy units and other characters.

  • TDude73

Holy freaking nosebleed! Azura and Tharja DLC in Fire Emblem Warriors?! Kudos to Koei Tecmo and the Big N!!!!! (cries joyfully)

  • AquaBat

    Theeeeeeere’s Minerva.
Still doesn’t seem worth game+DLC price, but it’s good that she’s playable.

    • Velen (Not WoW)

I am super happy about Minerva being in. Hell yes I say.

It’s just too bad she’s so far off! Dx

  • Rafael Bueno

Nice to ser tharja and Azura coming. But no Radiant Dawn or Blazing Blade DLC os kinda Sad πŸ™

    • Velen (Not WoW)

This was already determined man. They have said however that any further DLC in the future outside of these 3 packs would be more fan-oriented.

Which means we could be looking at Blazing Blade and Radiant Dawn, or even Genealogy or Sacred Stones DLC or more.

      • They’ve also confirmed we’re not getting Ike and Roy until a sequel if what I’ve heard is correct, so it may be best to keep hopes for those two down just in case.

        • Velen (Not WoW)

          True.

      • Rafael Bueno

oh i didn’t remember that, sorry for that πŸ™

        • Velen (Not WoW)

          It’s cool dude.

    • wanna know why. Those games have no connection with the game represented.
Aside from Lyn being in for popularity.
      Every other game is connected.

  • Evan Gustavson

My bro is so freaking happy Owain is playable.
He finds Owain to be HILLARIOUS.

  • Exposer

Im only happy for the SD charqcters and Olivia since i think the rest are in the game already.

  • Zeebor

    >Selling back NPC’s already 80% complete in the game.

    What is this, Capcom?

    >All brand new characters female

No, worse: it’s a Team Ninja game.

    • More like we pay for 2 characters and two/three new maps, and get one character as bonus, but they are selling it as 3 characters.

But since you quote Capcom, a new character in SFV is like $4 or $6? I don’t know, so each character costs more or less the same as a fighting game character, and we also get new maps.

But of course they could put them since the beginning.

      • Velen (Not WoW)

They actually can’t depending on the state of completeness. Deadlines are still a thing in game development unless you’re doing it as a hobby.

That’s the thing a lot of people don’t seem to be able to comprehend about game development: deadlines do exist, and they can’t simply wave their hands and say they’re going use that time to put every planned thing ever into the game. Doing that costs them money, and depending on how the game is being done, and who is doing, the game, delaying the game too much could result in a loss of funding, or worse, the project being shelved.

        • Ah, yes, of course, I do not complain about DLCs, I even think this one is pretty cheap compared to other games on PlayStation 4.

      • θΏ‘ι‡Žηšζœˆ

You can actually earn the SFV characters for free just by playing the game, though.

        • This is true, I was only comparing prices per character.

    • NeptuniasBeard

      Those characters were NOT 80%

    • NeptuniasBeard

They were definitely not 80% complete. They had a character model and basic placeholder attacks. At least now there’s a chance for them to be original

    • Dragonage2ftw

      There’s 6 new females.

      Out of 9.

Also, none of the characters have their own movesets. They’re all copied, and their models don’t look ready.

You’re complaining about less than nothing.

      • Velen (Not WoW)

. . . and you have proof of the second to last line?

        • Dragonage2ftw

Literally everyone has pointed this out when the game got released in glorious nippon land.

          • Velen (Not WoW)

Stop making claims and show it.

        • Galeden

In pretty much all of the reviews I have watched or read all said that most of the characters have copied move sets except for special attacks, kinda like Marth and Roy in Smash bros.

      • Zeebor

I’m complaining about PAYING for less than nothing.

        • Dragonage2ftw

9 new characters, 9 more maps, a plethora of new costumes………

          That’s nothing to you?

          • Synthesis

9 new costumes count as a plethora?

thats not even an additional costume for half the cast.

          • Dragonage2ftw

            That’s still really good.

      • Joshua Forgey

Yeah, I’m not buying it. I don’t see Minerva having the same moveset as Camilla since she doesn’t even use magic. Or Aqua, as a huge part of Fates that she was, not even having her own moveset in of itself is a sin. The only ones I see being clones are Niles, Linde, Tharja, and Owain.

  • StrawhatEevee

Lol at all the people angry about no Roy or Ike on forums right now. They literally said which games the DLC characters would be from. I understand why they’d be angry initially, but not at this point.

Also, glad the info came out early so I can make an informed decision on whether to get the DLC season pass or not.

    • Vigilante_blade

People are rightfully angry because they supported the series for about 3 decades and were flat-out ignored. I think the anger is more than justified.

      • StrawhatEevee

Hopefully the DLC includes motion controls too!!! πŸ™‚

        • Vigilante_blade

Now, you’re just being a troll.

        • Aline Piroutek

          lol

      • Tlink7

Getting angry at DLC that we knew was only for those three games is a bit futile though (…for the sake of my avatar, I hope there will be other game DLC later xD)

        • Vigilante_blade

The ange risn’t really futile. According to many industry insiders and journalists (like easy allies), companies hate when you make a stink online and on social media. It can elad to change. And that is why I tweet at Nintendo fairly periodically.

          • Tlink7

It is when you get mad at a thing that is already set in stone.

            ”We’re gonna announce Azura tomorrow”
            *anger*
            *day later*
”Today we’re announcing Azura for the game!”
”I CAN’T BELIEVE THEY ANNOUNCED AZURA, THIS IS RUBBISH RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE”
            πŸ˜›

Writing/tweeting Nintendo or KT about *future* DLC/games isn’t pointless, however

          • Vigilante_blade

Just because it has been se tin stone doesn’t mean I’m not mad anymore. If youw ant change, you can’t let up. All they ar ehoping for is that we get tired of complaining and move on to another thing. Continuous action is the only way to make anything change. I’m well awae that it is too late to save Warriors. However, I’m thinking of the bigger picture. The future.

          • Tlink7

Well I hope Warriors and the series gets better for you in the future

          • Teclis

Al is het maar dat ie kapt met zaniken, niet dan T? πŸ˜›

          • Darkrobot

            English……

          • Teclis

It was 2 people who know one another among one another, don’t be a prune.

          • Darkrobot

Using a language other than English in the community. “If you can speak English, you should,” I says. “It’s very disconcerting to have different languages spoken. It’s rude, and it increases the chances of people not understanding each other. I call that a β€˜language-hostile environment.'”

          • Teclis

Don’t beat yourself up over a quick sentence exchanged between friends, seriously. There’s far more serious things to consider.

          • Darkrobot

Doesn’t take much to get you on a rant. Haha.

          • Did you really just try to police two peoples language? You’re on the internet. And NE staff my write (“type”) in English, but they regularly report on EU stuff too. Goodness, feeling entitled over a game is one thing, but feeling entitled to peoples conversations is another.

          • Darkrobot

Your opinion is not the issue mind you, it’s your poor lack of execution in discussions that makes it difficult to take you seriously.

            >but they regularly report on EU stuff too

            What?

          • Tlink7

Gaat toch nooit gebeuren, maar wie weet, volgens de Efteling zijn de wonders de wereld nog niet uit

      • Tide

FE was going to end until the sudden success of Awakening/Fates so why wouldn’t they focus on the titles they saved the franchise? There are more ppl who supported Awakening and Fates so they are putting more focus on those titles. The fact they have Shadow Dragon standing among those two is surprising to me.

        • Teclis

That’s the thing people like Vigilante don’t want to see. Their vision is zoomed in on “My favourites aren’t here” blatantly ignoring that everyone has favourites, and that the developers went for a particular view with this game, that just sadly and simply didn’t include all the favourites.

Some people are satisfied, some are not, way of the world.

          • Vigilante_blade

It’s not really about favourites. It’s about respecting classic fans. We exist and are very significant in numbers. Fire Emblem would not exist without us, and there was no reason to focus exclusively on new fans. That anger could have been completely avoided.

          • Teclis

Ugh stuff it Vigilante, I’ve red your story over a million damn times by now.

I know how you operate and respond, discussing with you is pointless and I’ve better things to do, so by all means continue wailing against the door that won’t open.

          • Vigilante_blade

Nah, I ain’t the type to shut up when asked to.

ALso, you had a username change? I’ve never seen that name before.

          • Teclis

It doesn’t matter, because I’ve no intention to continue this argument.

          • Vigilante_blade

            Fine by me.

          • Teclis

That said, I do want to ask you a quick question: Would you rather have not had an FE themed Warriors game at all?

          • Icesticker

Me, personally, with the news that Owain is not out until March, when I will not be playing it, yes, yes I would rather it not exist then exist in the form that it does now. I don’t even care that some of my favourite characters are not in the game, what I care about is characters they’ve advertised and shown already won’t be out for half a year and that even the dlc is like 80% swords. If I do end up buying the game eventually I won’t be buying this wave of DLC. I can understand that some people are excited for those characters, Minerva’s addition is great, but it just didn’t give me what i wanted in a manner I find timely to keep me playing the game.

          • Teclis

That is a valid point that I can understand.

          • Tide

Personally im not excited about the current DLC characters either. Owain is definitely one of my favourite character but its his dialogue that makes him interesting. I doubt the voice acting will do his justice.

          • Teclis

Well, maybe the Japanese pack will offer a solution here.

          • Vigilante_blade

It’s not a zero sum game. I’m not going to ask for a game to be cancelled. That’s just not financially viable. However, goign forwards, IS should learn from this. Treating fans like garbage will have repercussions in the future, and the fanbase will dwindle. It has already begun to decrease slowly.

What I would rather have seen is a Warriors games that is inclsive of all fandoms. Have a few from each entry.

          • Teclis

And plenty would’ve wanted that as well, even the “Awakening kiddies” you love harping on so much would’ve wanted to see that. But guess what? Neither part of the fanbase has anything to say about that, unless massed in a force that is of the same idea. And that will never happen as long as the old points fingers that the new, which causes the new to say “F the old”.

But I’ve repeated the above points so many damn times already, and never do you even give an ounce of acknowledgement, because that’s just who you are.

          • Vigilante_blade

I’m pretty sure the elitism comes from newer fans mostly who actually tell us to be happy with just “Lyn”.

          • Teclis

Considering what the developers said the game would include, it’s a situation of “You could’ve easily gotten nothing at all, and you now at least have something” Cup is half full, not half empty.

          • Hao Nguyen

Please, Fire Emblem remained dead until Awakening.

          • Vigilante_blade

Fire Emblem was actually making a profit. The only games I could call a complete flop were Shadow Dragon and Heroe sof Light and Shadows on DS because they were terrible remakes.

        • Vigilante_blade

Shadow Dragon would have been in. It is in almost every crossover because first game.

          Now, your assertions are faulty.

          1. Awakening did not save the series. Marketing did. Awakening was the only game in the series to receive any sort of marketing aside from “What happened to Dorcas!?”

          2. Classic fans have contributed to the sales of Awakening and deserve to be given some respect. You didn’t do it alone.

          3. The series would not even have made it to Awakening if classic fans hadn’t kept the series alive for decades. The only reason Awakening exists is because we supported it when you were not giving it a fair chance.

          • Tide

            1) Awakening drew the larger crowd. Whether it was through gameplay, marketing or fan-service, Awakening and Fates got the sales that the previous titles didnt.

2-3) This wasn’t an anniversary edition to relive or celebrate all that is Fire Emblem. Also it’s a game handled by another developer using parts of the franchise that currently have the most traction. With that in mind Namco Bandai literally owes classic fans of the series nothing. They weren’t the company you were supporting over the past few decades.

Also you’re assuming i never purchased previous fire emblem games which is wrong. I enjoyed the GBA titles along with the Radiant titles on GC/Wii.

          • Vigilante_blade

            1. Awakening is also an extremely divisive title. Fates was so divisive that it made people quit the series.

            2. It was meant to be a Fire Emblme celebration. As such, it could have EASILY had characters from many games. There was absolutely no reaosn to limit it only to new fans.

          • Tide

Got a source for where anyone involved in the development claimed it to be a celebration?

          • Teclis

I’m pretty sure it’s simply an FE themed Warriors game, but that’s just me.

          • Vigilante_blade

Top selling doesn’t necessarily mean most popular. Many people change their minds over time. Ike for example is the mos tpopula rmale in the series. He comes from a game that bombed. Now, it is known by many to be the best game int he franchise.

Also, it’s a freakin’ crossover. It is supposed to be a celebration. Don’t be that selfish dude who wants exclusive rep. What’s wrong with other games getting rep? Answer me this?

          • Tide

By that same logic ppl could have changed their minds about the previous titles and that would underscore their popularity as well. By RAW numbers Awakening and Fates makes the most sense to support. Also Ike, Roy and Marth can thank Smash Bros for a lot of their popularity.

Just because its a cross-over doesnt mean its a celebration. Why would you expect a spin-off title not even handled by the main company to be a celebration title?

          • Teclis

That is a very valid argument you put there. I wonder how popular the cast that appeared in Smash Bros would’ve been, if they never ended up there.

My guess is that Smash Bros contributed to around 60%+ of their popularity, if not more.

          • Vigilante_blade

Roy was actually an extremely popular character in Japan when Binding Blade came out, with a manga that sold very well. Ike is a cult classic character, where few played his games due to lack of availiabilty, but many replayed those through emulation.

          • Teclis

Putting that aside for the moment, all the people who play FE do now, is tear each-other apart over characters and writing, that may be a whole different cup of tea by the Switch version.

Honestly, after having dealt with you and Fandangle for so long, I want to put FE to the side and just play other games. That’s the kind of thing you incite in people.

          • Vigilante_blade

To be fair, the attitude that just lying old games is considered “elitist” is not helping this fanbase at all. If new fans only showed some support to us, and said “Yeah, you are right, it’s not okay that you didn’t get much of anything”, and actually aided us, we could have had a nice story that could have borught all of us together. But instead, you said “Shut up, you have Lyn. WHERE IS MY AZURA!?”

          • Teclis

And what do you think this “aid” would’ve made for a difference? A lot of people are already soured on the constant complaining about what isn’t there, the constant harping on the game for what it doesn’t have that they’ve lost the will to care.

Last time that I’ll repeat it: I have done my contribution in that wider representation, I’ve even sent them an e-mail about those characters, and I wouldn’t mind having Ike/Roy what have you in the game. But I’m not going to throw a hissyfit over them not being in either, because the developers have explained their stance, and so it is.

What you’re doing, isn’t getting the new FE players to be interested in the old games. It just gets them defensive about what they’ve come to like about the new ones, and want the old to stay away due to the people they associate with it.

          • Vigilante_blade

Yes, that aid would have forced Koei’s hand.

Again, what wrong would it do to have a wider spread?

          • Teclis

A wider spread would’ve meant that there were others that don’t get their favourite instead. You see people here saying that they, or their friend/family love Owain. He would’ve probably been scrapped for a character like Ike.

This isn’t a “We can all gain” situation, Vigilante. It’s a “Someone loses, someone else wins in their stead” situation. Everyone has favourites, even the obscure ones, and they can’t all be crammed into the game, there will always be people who don’t get their beloved character in.

Right now, a lot of the older cast doesn’t get their share, but a lot of the newer ones do. Who has the right to have their favourite character in, Vigilante? Are you going to be the judge of that? Are you going to tell people that they can’t have their favourite, because others want theirs?

There is no clean-cut answer here, there will be people dissatisfied no matter how you make things. The only thing that shifts, is who exactly are the disgruntled ones, nothing more, nothing less.

          • Vigilante_blade

I think Owain is an acceptable sacrifice. Awakenign fans will be happy enough to have Chrom, Robin and the usual suspects. They don’t “need” Owain. He’s just added luxury. They would still be content without him enough. Add in Ike, Roy, Seliph, Ephraim, Hector, Soren, Lilina, and now you covered a wide range of fandoms. In fact, you can reach FAR more people by having a few reps from every game than by having all reps come from three games.

It’s not about favourites. Soren is my favourite character, and I would have settled for Ike or Roy. It is not about specific characters, but about representing at least everyone’s favourite games. That ocunts for something. Besides, Ike, Roy, and Hector ar emor epopular than Chrom, so your character argument falls flat on its face. Owain is not even close to them.

          • Teclis

You’re correct on one thing in your statement, that being that you “think” Owain is an acceptable sacrifice. I’m sure there are plenty that would disagree with that notion, are you going to tell them off for it?

Again, there is no clear-cut advance here. For all we know, putting in those characters and representatives you named would have not given the desired sales effects as per the research of those making the game, getting their money’s worth out of it.

You need a serious amount of undeniably proven people that would buy in with those characters included to even have them notice in that case.

          • Vigilante_blade

I shall list classic sword users that are more popular than Owain in CYL: Ike, Roy, Ike a second time, Eirika, Mia, Joshua, Eliwood. All of those have more popularity. In a sense, yes, he is a good sacrifice because “more” people would have been happy with Ike and Roy than every single other sword unit in the game.

            https://events.fire-emblem-heroes.com/vote/result?overall=1

          • Teclis

Can you undeniably prove me that the popularity of those characters would’ve translated to more sales? Can you 100% guarantee that the sacrifice actually translates to more income?

No, you cannot. And hence we are done here, Vigilante, because we do not know the important details, the crucial parts that make a real assessment.

I will be playing the game tomorrow and getting my enjoyment out of it. I can only hope that equal representation will happen one way or another, maybe with a sequel, if that even comes to pass.

          • Vigilante_blade

I can present an argument for it. I am not buying the game. Why? Because I’m not into the new style of Fire Emblem as much. If you like GBA, SNES and GC era games, then you are out of any kind of rep. As such, less sales.

          • Teclis

An argument is not an undeniable fact. For all we know, those who aren’t interested due to those characters not being in, do not match up to those that are interested, due to the characters that are in.

Popularity doesn’t automatically translate to someone actually buying the product, there’s more to it than that.

Things are the way they are, Vigilante. I know you won’t accept that, and you’ll keep lobbying and trying to get your way of it. I wonder what you’ll do if your actions were to contribute to FE meeting the end regardless, because the new fans are scared off by the old ones, and the old ones cannot keep the franchise afloat. It has brought me to regretting having picked up Awakening and hoping the Switch FE flops, so we get to that point of no return, and this time, there won’t be a game to fish it back up out of the inevitable depths.

Then we can all put these pointless arguments aside, and instead point fingers at each other for not being the party to have saved it a 2nd time.

You can fondly wonder what FE could’ve been then, just like what Golden Sun could’ve been.

          • Vigilante_blade

You cannot ask me for the unprovable. You couldn’ tprove me the other way around. However, my logic is sound.

I think you are going a ittle too far in your slippery slope argument. giving classic fans a little recognition isn’t jus toging to end the series. That is ludicrous.

          • Teclis

And at the same time, one can point at sheer sales numbers in regards to logic. Awakening and Fates sold a ton more, and yet I’ve arguably seen more of Valencia myself, but regardless, the newer entries simply have the sales aspect that is an undeniable fact.

As I’ve said before, why don’t you dedicate some of that time of yours to trying to figure out why they’re not including those older entries? You’ve said you’ve got people that worked at IGN and now at Nintendo, so might as well ask them a question rather harmless like that.

When push comes to shove, I look at things realistically, and realistically I don’t see a reason to complain or keep lobbying about it. I’ve had my moments with Monster Hunter, but I’ve since accepted the truth of it and moved on, something I suggest you do as well at some point.

          • Vigilante_blade

Look at my avatar: Logic is everything to me. Valentia actually had very little marketing compared to Awakening, which has commercials on TV, movies theatres, online, and through influencers. Valentia was actually not pushewd anywhere near as hard, especially on the influencers front and movie theatres. It also had very little Nintendo direct presence and fewer commercials on TV. You ay have “seen” more Valentia commercials, but Awakening and Fates were both the most marketed games in the series.

I “know” why they are not including past games. They already stated that they are keeping Ike and Roy for potential sequels. E.g., they think they can make money by taking content hostage. They are fully aware of the clout that these characters have.

I see a reason to complain, and that is a better future for fans. If you really don’t care, stop responding.

          • γ‚γƒ

I still wouldn’t be getting this game even if Lilina was in it. xD Just thought it’d be a random FYI to throw out there.

          • Teclis

That’s what I meant, thank you for giving me an example in that. Perhaps people that like the newer game-players are just more likely to buy in? Not saying there’s no people among the older ones that won’t, but maybe there’s less of them to the point where it makes a considerable difference. One needs to know such crucial details to make an adequate assessment of the roster, I’d reckon.

          • γ‚γƒ

It may be because people who bought the newer games like the characters more due to the characters having their extreme amount of supports in comparisons to older games, so they may have been more attached to the characters than the stories/games themselves.

Just a guess though, for me it’s just that I’m not a fan of Warriors gameplay and (lack) of meaningful story, and having a favorite character in there won’t change that… xD But there are those who simply want to enjoy the gameplay with characters they love, in which case win win for them!

          • Teclis

True, but the details are lost to us in if that will translate to more sales. Us fans can want a ton of things, but at the end of the day a game is still a product, and a developer still a company. It needs to sell, and maybe there’s just not enough reason to include the older cast in terms of sales. We’d need to know those things to make an adequate assessment.

I like what I’ve played of the newer FE’s, I also like the idea of having my own avatar-like character, as that’s far more relatable for me. The draws that brought me to like the new instalments, are missing from the older ones, and even if I would like to play those, I’d have to resort to less than admirable means to do so, which isn’t something I want to do.

          • γ‚γƒ

Yes, of course. I can feel Vigilante’s pain in almost feeling forgotten in a sense, but i remain optimistic despite that and cherish what we did get in the end. I’m not the type who always needs new experiences, especially now. xD

It’s inevitable that playing the newer entries means you enjoy newer mechanics that didn’t exist before, so going backward is harder than going forward purely technologically speaking, too! I recall talking to you before about FE7/8 being available on the WiiU VC (and FE8 for 3DS ambassadors), but I think you mentioned not having access to those either, right? I guess we’ll have to see if they merge with the Switch eshop at some point. xD

          • Teclis

I get that idea of being forgotten, but I then feel the need to look at games that had it far worse in how they were treated. I’ve quit entire franchises that I’ve loved since I was a kid, because the game was going downhill, shackled by a conservative fan-base, yet I am not going around on the forums of that game, flailing about like a Magikarp on dry land.

Sometimes things change, and one’s beloved game/franchise then becomes something different, in FE’s case it was to stave off the end and obscurity, like F-zero and Golden Sun. If Awakening flopped, we wouldn’t even be having this discussion, but that’s all too often overlooked by people like Vigilante.

The morale of the story is that these things happen, and that it’s best to give it a rest and go for something different instead. There’s plenty of games in the world, the chance of there being something else to scratch that itch is pretty damn big, so why latch onto what is gone and not coming back, when you can also move forward?

          • Vigilante_blade

The moral of the story is that I will keep going until it gets fixed. I already lost Smash Bros and Paper Mario. I’m not losing another franchise without a fight.

          • γ‚γƒ

The issue with saying there wouldn’t be FE games today is that some would rather the series have just ended and kept its dignity rather than continue on the path it did. I know that people seek new games in beloved series, though I myself am content with an end! (That way I selfishly don’t have to worry about constantly looking at what’s next and enjoying what we have. xD)

I play few games nowadays, but the ones I do play are often just series that haven’t ended yet (Pokemon, a few Marios, Zelda, etc). So a good way to slowly phase out games and all the drama that comes with it I guess. xD

          • Teclis

But it’s human to get tired of what you’ve played so many times, and for all the annoyance it gives, it also pushes progress and continuation of a series. You’d never get that golden other part if the 1st was all people wanted and no more.

Aye, you wanted to do things in particular departments if memory serves. Check your Discord, you’ll know what I mean πŸ˜›

          • γ‚γƒ

It may be human, but that does not mean it happens to everyone. xD I still don’t get tired of some old classics, thanks to memory being a fickle thing and everything old being new again! Of course that also means there are people who enjoy continuations of new but similar experiences (which is what makes a series). I won’t project my own thoughts onto what others may think!

While it’s true that I may not have experienced the later installments if they stopped with the first, I’d not know any other experience in that particular instance. An example is Radiant Historia, just one game (well now a remaster). I enjoyed it a lot, but was perfectly content with just that one experience rather than desiring a second sort of thing!

I neglect my discord since my time is equally limited… xD

          • Vigilante_blade

You did not answer my question? Why not support more games? Wakening and Fates people would have had rep. What’s wrong with having Ike, Roy, etc…?

(I won’t humour you until you stop dodging)

          • Tide

Why did you not provide a link or reply to any of my statements? Cant act like you’re the only entitled one in this case.

          • Vigilante_blade

            Answer my question first.

          • Teclis

Oh dear, do forgive people for not discovering FE sooner, there’s just a myriad of different reasons, all of them more important, that could’ve been the cause of such.

You could also, you know, be happy FE is still around? Or would you like to have another Golden Sun situation instead?

          • Princess_Eevee9

            Thanks for making me sad…

          • Teclis

Let’s just say that it was far from my intention. I can still see the appeal of that game today, and it’s a massive shame that it ended the way it did. There’s plenty more games like that that I would’ve loved a continuation of, but that either just went awry or stopped all-together (Final Fantasy Tactics *shakes angry fist at Square*) Golden Sun, Stella Glow and I’m sure there’s plenty more.

Let’s enjoy what we’ve got, and what we can get, as there’s so much awesome stuff gone already, and unlike FE, there’s nothing coming out for them to even try a comeback.

          • Princess_Eevee9

Don’t be said about Stella Glow, that game was just straight up Anime garbage. So mad that I bought it… Man I was just replaying Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2: Grimoire of Rift this Summer and it’s a solid Title for being almost a decade old.

          • Teclis

To each their own, I thought Stella Glow was great, especially the voice acting.

Yeah, Final Fantasy went the way of the mobile game, not exactly a ringing endorsement, is it?

          • Princess_Eevee9

The Voice Acting was phenomenal, that bull regarding how you interacted with The Witches was stupid, the plot was retarded, obviously game was heavily marketed for one type of gamer and not inclusive to all, and all characters fell flat(Obviously I went head over heels for Hilda and Pop was the most darling) Lisette was the one who pissed me off the most personality & power locking-wise. So much so I just dropped this game cause of the issues I had with it. But I want to go back and finish it one day, justify all that money spent. I moreso enjoyed playing Moco-Moco Friends and another game that launched that day.

I’m still pissed that we got the sequel we always wanted, and it’sa friggin’ smartphone App….

          • Vigilante_blade

You miss the point: You keep acting as if you “saved” the franchise all by yourselves, when we are very much a part of its success as well. This was a team effort, and many keep forgetting that.

To be fair, I’m less and less happy with the state of Fire Emblem. I was very happy with Valentia, but Fates was a game that I honestly regret buying. I should have skipped on it. The focus on sexual fanservice really bothered me. Keep in mind that Valentia had a different director while Awakening and Fates had the same director. I wish for the next game in the series to be lead by someone other than the Fates director. A good story would motivate me greatly.

Fire Emblem won’t die from giving some love to classic games. If anything, it could be a boon for future remakes.

          • Teclis

All Fates did, was show what’s already in FE from the beginning, and what it’s fanbase has been occupied with from the start. I’ve proven this point already.

“A good story” is very subjective. Valentia was bog-standard in my opinion. I could go down a list of tropes and it’d sum up the game at the end. Treehouse tried to avoid that with their localization, and I can respect that.

At the end of the day, “My will is law and right” Vigilante, we’re but two nobodies arguing back and forth on the internet. What either of us says won’t change anything, especially not anyone else talking to you.

          • Vigilante_blade

What Fates did was simply put more emphasis on sexual fanservice when classic Fire Emblem was about politics, world-building and characters growth.

Valentia had a great story. It held good characters, good vilains, good motivations, and was told very well. It didn’ tneed to be complicated: only to be told aptly. Treehouse did not localize Valentia. That is why it was well-made.

          • Teclis

You see, it’s impossible to ram it through to your thick skull that this part “t held good characters, good vilains, good motivations, and was told very well” is YOUR opinion. I’m sure there’s plenty who agree, but for crying out loud, give some consideration that not everyone holds the same damn opinion!

Believe it or not, there were people who enjoyed Fates for what it was. I’ve enjoyed Awakening for what it was. Both those games you condemn the players of and the games themselves, frequently, while constantly demanding people to have played the older games before speaking up on them.

Have you even taken a good look on what it costs/takes to obtain those games at times? 100 for a 2nd hand Gamecube copy, that’s what. Nintendo could’ve easily given the spotlight to these old games, given them consideration, but they haven’t. Have you even tried asking them why that is? Have you ever even considered why that might be?

          • Vigilante_blade

I’m pretty sure that the story structure of Fates is actually bad… objectively. Events contradict themselves. That is an objective measure of bad writing.

BTW, I don’t condemn fans of those games. You decided to feel targeted in that way. What I do have disdain for is the subset of new players who’s like “Stop complaining, you have Lyn”. or “Well, I’M happy, so shut up”. This lack of empathy and show of elitism is something I have no tolerance for. If it bothers you so much to listen to me air my grievances, ignore me. It’s that simple, dude. Just don’t get in my way, then. You have no stakes in this except to annoy me and everyone else by making a discussion last longer than it should. If you don’t care, let me be. You are wasting everyone’s time by not minding your own business for something you don’t care about.

The Gamecube games can be obtained for free on emulation. While I can’t really condone emulating most of the time, this is a game that cannot be obtained at a reasonable price without emulation. At this point, I think it is fine.

Valentia has also sold pretty well, even with people refusing to touch it because no babies. I think those that prefer the classic style have increased. Likely some Awakening guys who ar enow looking for something deeper.

          • Teclis

I don’t care about? Let me be the judge of that, thank you very much.

It was you who coined the phrase “Awakening kiddies” not I. And I’ve already said that I would’ve appreciated a wider roster, but I also recognize that constantly complaining about it, only gets people really cross with you.

We’ve had numerous long discussions, Vigilante, and I know your stance on things. It would be nice if you’d open yourself up, and put your “I don’t accept what I don’t agree with” philosophy to the side. Do you even have a middle-ground when it comes to this?

          • Vigilante_blade

Pretty sur eit was “Awakening babies”, and that was because you kept whining about how we were unhappy with just Lyn, while you tried to tell us that we should be happy with the one character we got.

It would be nice if you’d open yourself up to something called basic human empathy. You still hav eprovided no valid reaosn why they couldn’t have had more balanced franchise rep. In fact, my position provides mor ecompromise than yours.

          • Teclis

You have no right to lecture me on empathy. I’m not the one who got people really annoyed at them in Discord.

But enough of this, it’s going in the complete wrong direction. You cling to your vision until the end of time, Vigilante, I’ll just enjoy what I can get, what I can play, and what is left of FE that I’ve found enjoyable, instead of constantly thrashing around for what is in the past.

          • Vigilante_blade

            Which Discord? TLink7’s

I would only give you one piece of advice. Don’t take things at face value.

          • Tide

Vigilante has made it a point before that he is in-fact entitled, that it is an admirable trait and more ppl should be like him. He’s pretty adamant on opposing a reasonable point of view.

          • Vigilante_blade

*Disagrees with person* = Entitled? What?

          • Tide
          • Libra Riviera

Why did I read this entire argument.

    • MagcargoMan

“Lol at the people mad that one of the most popular lords in the entire series isn’t in a Fire Emblem crossover”

      • StrawhatEevee

Nah, lol at people that are suddenly mad again. We knew the three packs would be from three, specific games, so there was no reason to hold out hope for them after that for these three packs. As I said, initial anger is understandable. The roster is missing some of my favorites such as Hector, but I didn’t delude myself into thinking he would be in these packs.

I wouldn’t rule additional DLC after these three packs either. Hyrule Warriors did it and there’s more placeholders in this game. Guarantee they’ll do packs for more games or a fan vote type thing.

        • Vigilante_blade

It’s not like time will pass and we’ll suddenly be okay with it. We were made then, and we are still mad. It’s not like anger subsided and then returned. It was continuous. The state of things right now bothers fans of the series. The anger won’t end until they do somehting to apologize.

        • MagcargoMan

They’re mad because it’s relevant to talk about now that the DLC’s out, you spineless doormat.

And wow, DLC? Yeah, feels great spending a fortune on characters that should be in the base game.

          • StrawhatEevee

Not really. “Hey, we’re releasing characters from three Fire Emblem games in three packs.”, the character you want isn’t from those games, the characters ger revealed, and now you’re mad? Either you had weird expectations or you’re STILL mad. Either is strange. Not healthy to be that angry. As I said, my top wanted didn’t get in either, but I’m not going to whine about it, especially when it’s blatantly obvious this won’t be the end of the DLC.

          • MagcargoMan

No, I knew what to expect. It was worthy of criticising again.

Doesn’t matter if it’s not the end. Characters like Ike should be in the base game and not behind a paywall.

          • StrawhatEevee

Well, then piss and moan, and get angry at people online. I’m sure that will do wonders for your blood pressure and cause the developers to retroactively add your favorite character.

          • Vigilante_blade

Why are all Evee’s here so hostile?

          • StrawhatEevee

Why are all blades here so dull? :/

          • Vigilante_blade

I’m fine with you being a jerk to me, but that’s very unkind to Busterblade.

          • Bustersword

Buster who? No blade to be seen here but yours πŸ˜›

          • MagcargoMan

I’m sure defending stupid decisions online will be seen by the developers who you’ll receive a payment from… oh wait!

          • StrawhatEevee

Not defending anything, d00d. Just occupying myself at work. I agree it’s a bad roster and that it is silly to not include all the fan favorites. I’ve also said my most wanted wasn’t included. There’s no defense; just advising some hot headed guy on the internet that it’s probably time to get over it since we’ve known these characters won’t be in these packs for months. πŸ™‚

          • Bustersword

The way I see it, some people, the sensible ones, know when to quit. There’s a ton of things to constantly wail and complain about, but let’s face it: Only people with serious influence or power can make a difference, so either you have a ton of people behind you that echo your opinions in the right direction enough times, or you are in a position of power as it stands.

If neither of the above applies, then refer to “Ok, this game isn’t my jam any-more, time to get me another one”.

          • Vigilante_blade

Teclis, giving up is the worst thing we could do. This isn’t an isolated incidents.

Awakening and Shadow Dragon have been the focus of every single crossover since Awakening was released, and Fates was added to that focus since its release. Classic games (except Shadow Dragon) have been ignored for the most part despite their fans supporting the series for decades.

We’re been burned by Tokyo Mirage Sessions that outright showed classic characters in its teaser trailer only to focus on Awakening and Shadow Dragon. We’re seen SD and Awakening features heavily in various games like Project X Zone 2, Monster Hunter, amiibos rep (Chrom and Tiki were added), Fire Emblem Heroes heavily focusing alt costumes on Awakening and Fates tot he point of having FOUR Lucinas, etc… And now we are seeing it with Warriors. This has been an ongoing issue since Awakening’s initial release. We’re not just coming out of nowhere with this.

If you are a passionate fan of the franchise, like me, you don’t like the state of things at the moment. Mos tof us are very well aware that our complaints here won’t change much for this game. However, we are thinking about the bigger picture… the future.

If a sequel comes one day, we want better rep. If a new crossover comes, we’d like to see them change thigns around a bit. Maybe put Ike’s Ragnel as a greatsword, and Hector’s Armads as a Switchaxe in Monster Hunter. Maybe put Roy in a new RPG crossover, make an axe Lilina alt in Heroes. Spread the love.

We all wanted to play as characters we liked in Fire Emblem Warriors. It didn’t have to be this way, and this is why we keep on criticizing. Giving up means giving them freedom to do it over again.

          • Teclis

There’s a reason why it was aimed at Magcargoman and not at you, “Never gonna give you up” Vigilante.

          • Vigilante_blade

I simply happen to agree with him.

I’d honestly take that sacrifice if it spawns change.

          • Teclis

It won’t spawn change, yet you fail to want to see this. Ugh, there’s a reason why I’ve stopped responding to you, and I already regret having started it again.

Last thing I’ll say on the matter: FE is the way it is now. If it changes your way, great, but if it doesn’t then accept reality. Do you also open bills, then throw them away without paying because you “Don’t accept what you don’t agree with”?

          • Vigilante_blade

What exactly are you achieving here? Getting in my way is utterly pointless. I am doing basic consummer action. Your comments serve absolutely nothing but to spark a pointless discussion. If I want to complain about it, let me do so, and move on.

          • Vigilante_blade

What makes you think I’ll actually listen to you?

          • MagcargoMan

Fan demand got Ryo into Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed after he was cut from the base roster, and also made NiGHTS playable after the fans clamouring for him to be playable in the first game. Fan demand got Jericho to be renewed for a second season. Fan demand got Crash Bandicoot to come back and the Stormy Ascent DLC level was added due to fan demand. Fans clamouring for Metroid to get proper games resulted in Samus Returns and Prime 4 being announced.

Face it, games are a product and when enough people want something game devs will listen unless they want to make less money. Why you think it’s a wiser decision to a crossover game that alienates a lot of the fanbase is beyond me.

          • Teclis

Because the developer has a particular thing in mind when making this game and they’ve followed that vision. Fan demand is also a strong factor if there’s enough of it.

          • MagcargoMan

Was that vision “shill modern Fire Emblem, screw everything else”?

          • Teclis

You know what? I’m not even going to bother. You think your point, I’ll think mine, and we’ll keep it at this.

          • Icesticker

For me at least the anger stems not because certain characters were not announced but with the characters that were announced and how long I have to wait for them. After characters like Ike and Ephraim were not announced I was really looking forward to unlocking and playing as Owain, he was the character I wanted to play as after he was announced, but now I find out even though he is in the game he is being held back as DLC that won’t come out until March when I will have beaten the game and will no longer have an interest in ti. That is what has gotten me salty again, because while Owain is great he is not enough to get me to want to play the game again so far off from when it was released, which means I now have to decide if I just want to wait to purchase it until he is a playable character or play it now and never play as him.

To be fair, the fact Lyn, and Celica were put in (aside from popularity and advertising reasons) showed that they could’ve done Ike if they wanted to, but chose not to, and considering his popularity, that seems like a pretty bad move IMO.

      • StrawhatEevee

Celica was likely a Echoes tie in, and didn’t Lyn score the highest on the popularity poll? Also, she’s a very prominent FE character, whereas Ike is just in one game really. But as I said in other comments, I bet heavily on Ike/Hector/Roy coming later.

        • MagcargoMan

“Also, she’s a very prominent FE character, whereas Ike is just in one game really.”
Lol, this is the exact opposite. Lyn was only in one game while Ike was the only lord besides Marth to be the star of TWO Fire Emblem games.

          • StrawhatEevee

My bad. Was thinking about Anna for the prominence comment. Lyn did win the popularity poll, though. Just double checked.

          • awesomeparadise3

The hell are you talking about? Check again.
Ike was in 1st and 5th place. He got 33871 and 17684 votes between his two appearances for a total of 51555 votes. Lyn’s votes were not split and she got 49917 votes. 51555 is more than 49917.

        • Vigilante_blade

You need to play classic games. ike starred in two games and was in two Smash Bros games and the most popular console mod ever made. Ike is extremely relevant.

Don’t speak on things you are not qualifie dot speak on. Any fan of the series would know that basic info.

          • StrawhatEevee

I’ve played all the games with the exception of one or two. I misspoke when I said Lyn, as I meant Anna. Go take a nap. You’re so angry about your DLC that you’re slurring your e-words.

          • Vigilante_blade

I actually do not believe you. I think you never played them but didn’t like that I caught you off guard.

          • StrawhatEevee

Oh no. πŸ™ You don’t believe me? How will I sleep at night knowing that someone as illustrious as you doesn’t believe I’ve played every game I’ve said I’ve played? Lol what a tool. As if you don’t just want Ike and Roy because you played them in Smash Brothers and thought they were just oh, so cool.

          • Vigilante_blade

Actually, I like Ike and Roy a lot mor eform their games. Roy is a highly-intelligent tactician, while Ike is a departure from the usual lord. Both are incredible lords.

          • StrawhatEevee

Where’s the proof?!?! Don’t you remember, motion control man?! If you make a claim like that you need to 100% prove with a reputable source that it’s true. It’s debate 101.

Sorry, I was possessed by a pointless, over-zealous crazy person yokai.

          • Vigilante_blade

In the motion control debate, I provided evidence, whereas you haven’t. I have handily crushed and defeated you. There was no competition.

          • StrawhatEevee

LOL. You can’t be a real person. This is like a Dwight Schrute/Napoleon Dynamite thing you’ve got going on. Not complaining. Highly entertaining.

          • Velen (Not WoW)

Okay, what the f###, now you’re just being nuts.

          • Vigilante_blade

Oh, you are right, I am not a real person. I am a super-computer bent on world domination.

          • Darkrobot

”You can’t be a real peson”

            What age do you act?

          • Vigilante_blade

It is called a typo. And you didn’ tknow about Ike, which any fan would know.

Is that one Canadian too, is that why you like him so much ?
            πŸ˜›

          • Vigilante_blade

I’m not really Canadian., I’m Quebecois first and foremost.

      • Fandangle

They were only added because nintendo and IS told the director they had to be in.

    • David Walbrun

Honestly as a long time fan of the series since it came to America, I am still not over the fact that the most popular characters are not in the game. Hyrule Warriors had basically anyone you could want (except the Wind Fish), but for this they are literally leaving out 3 of the most popular characters from the entire series. I’m still getting this, but this game could have been so much more with just the addition of Roy, Hector, and Ike

    • Fandangle

They confirmed Ike and Roy weren’t in a while ago because they’re holding them hostage for a sequel tyo blackmail fans into buying it.

The problem is they’re actually selling you characters that are in the base game but just aren’t playable.

  • Lance Devon

So if I wait a year you guys going to actually release a “complete” edition so I can buy.a WHOLE game?

    • Velen (Not WoW)

Uhm… Doubtful for a few reasons right now.

      1. Multi-plat release (3DS / Switch)
      2. We’re not even close to that point yet (hell the game comes out tomorrow)
      3. Not a good idea to do that.

  • Source?

  • Dunnington

Okay… Completely disregarding the issues that many have expressed with the roster in this game already…
I’m overall pretty happy with the NEW characters they’re adding into the game. Tharja, Minerva, and Azura are givens, while Olivia, Linde and Oboro are pretty cool (would have preferred a Ninja like Kagero or Kaze but whatever).

But are they seriously making people pay for 3 characters that are ALREADY IN THE GAME. Not only that, but 2 of those 3 are essentially clones. That’s ridiculous.

Hyrule Warriors was handled so much better than this game. Soooooo much better.

    • Velen (Not WoW)

I agree, Navarre and Owain should not be clones.

Maybe they’ll get de-cloned by the time of release, but I highly doubt it.

  • Pepperkeet

REEEEE Tharja is last dlc but i don’t care now i’m buying it ;D

  • Inb4 Vigilante saying there’s no Roy or Ike and he will not buy this game

    • Velen (Not WoW)

… You’re basically asking for him to come around with this.

      • He is a remarkable character here in FE Warriors news so when he’s not around I miss him kek

    • StrawhatEevee

Funny part is they directly said what the packs would be ahead of time, and there’s still five placeholder slots in the data for DLC even after this they’re likely reserving for fan favorites like Hector/Ike/Roy, but I 100% agree with you that he’ll complain lol.

      • Vigilante_blade

They also said that Ike and Roy would be held back for potential sequels.

    • Vigilante_blade

Hey, I think my anger is more than justified.

      • Yes, you like them and you have the entire right to not buy the game if you feel there’s no reason to buy (or more like there’s reason to not buy). I like a lot of characters that are in the game and like Warrior games as well, so I’m just waiting tomorrow to buy it.

        • Vigilante_blade

I’m not going to tell you what you can do and can’t do. However, I think I have every right to express that dissapointment and to make it perfectly clear to Nintendo. That is why I speak to hem on different channels and tell them my grievances.

Even people who “like” those characters should be capable opf understanding how insidious this behaviour is and how anti-fanbase it is.

    • Vigilante_blade

Why did you feel it necessary to single me out?

      • Because for me you are the avatar of a someone dissatisfied with the current state, and I don’t see many people here raising their voices like you do.

        • Vigilante_blade

You mean like Fandangle and Magcargoman, as well as a large portion of Serenes Forest, the youtube community, Fire Emblem reddits, etc…?

          • When I said “here” I was talking of Nintendo Everything’s comments section, you know.

I don’t recall these two persons you said, my bad if I wasn’t paying attention, it’s just you was the more remarkable, I’m not trying to be pejorative or anything.

          • Vigilante_blade

No worries. Understand that I am just really annoyed with the state of things and don’t want to come off as hostile towards you.

I am very passionate about Fire Emblem, and wanted a Warriors game for ages. Now, it’s everything I didn’t want it to be.

          • ben

I consider you to be the only person who is not a moron out of that group..

          • Vigilante_blade

I spoke to Fandangle a few times, and he has some good ideas. And my past grievances with MagcargoMan aside, I wouldn’t exactly call him an idiot.

          • ben

I will give you Magcargoman is fine but after last week with Fandangle telling me that FE warriors is exactly the same game with just different textures on the switch and the 3ds… that is a bit too much.

          • Vigilante_blade

Technically, they play exactly the same, but with different textures and performance.

          • ben

I don’t think you can call something technically the same just because it has the same mechanics, design and story. It isn’t that simple. You can argue that DOOM for the switch is technically the same as it is a port. But FE warriors are built on different engines and feel different. Even in 30fps mode the Switch game is a much faster game. It has more enemies on screen and thus missions were an NPC is being attacked by a mob are very different. I would also argue that the general feel of the game is different.

But if you think just having the same content makes a game the same then we will just have to agree to disagree.
I personally didn’t think that the 3ds smash was the same as the wii u smash and they were much closer than FEW on Switch and 3ds.

  • Vigilante_blade

Broken armour huh? Oh…. that fanservice. Wha thas this turned into?

There is no justification for this continuous focus on only three games when mor epeople could be made happy by spreading the love.

    • Teclis

Yet the developers made a choice, so it’s case of take it or leave it, just like how they decided to make Salmon Run only useable at certain times in Splatoon 2, or how WB stuffed lootboxes in Shadow of War, or how EA made Star Wars: Battlefront 2 pay-to-win, or how Activision is patenting a matchmaking system that encourages the acquisition of micro-transactions.

Compared to that, I don’t think there should be any panties being tied in a knot here.

      • awesomeparadise3

If you’re going to use Splatoon 2 point out the impossible to skip idol, boot up cut scenes. So annoying and easy to fix.

        • Teclis

I don’t have the game myself, I’m going off of what I know is a part of the game that they’ve chosen, and not everyone agrees with.

          • awesomeparadise3

I’m not saying your comment is wrong. I just wanted to point that out.

  • MagcargoMan

The Shadow Dragon characters are welcome given how few are playable in the game, but wow there’s some unnecessary fluff for Awakening and especially Fates, which already had the most playable characters in the base roster. Niles will probably have the same strings as the other bow users, making him another clone in the roster. I mean it’s good to see some on-foot lance users but they really should have been ones from other games.

Tharja would at least be unique since there’s no on-foot dark magic character playable but Owain is another sword user and Olivia is a dancer… a unit not fit for combat and her weapon is yet another sword. I mean, she’d have a unique moveset I guess with a lot of spinning and can probably buff units with her dance moves but I get the feeling she was picked because of waifu reasons.

    • Velen (Not WoW)

Definitely agree on the reason of Olivia’s conclusion….

    • Hidden Flare

Uhh I see no issue with dancers being added. Especially olive seeing she can make a decent fighting unit at worst. Not to mention dancers have been apart of the series for a long time, correct? Also these warriors games can be as unrealistic as they can be, just looking at hyrule warriors had a few interesting picks, like agatha, and how they fight, like Fi who, oh what do you know, dances while attacking :P. I just don’t get what you mean exactly?

      • MagcargoMan

What I mean is in Fire Emblem dancers are support units who absolutely suck as attack units. They do little damage and have little health (or defence, one or the other). With that in mind there’s much better choices from Awakening then Olivia.

        • Hidden Flare

Well I can understand other choices, but considering how they have done weird choices before in other games and made it work it’s understandable. Who knows what they are going to do with the moveset and stats this time.

  • NeptuniasBeard

    I have to wait until March to play as Owain… ;_;

It sucks pretty major that the NPC are being dlc. BUT, this means there’s a pretty good chance they’ll be getting their own movesets instead of the place holders they had before. And if that is the case, fine. Fair trade. But if they’re selling us clones (especially if Minerva and Tharja are) even I , captain of the Nintendo defense force, would feel rather cheated.

  • Jay Bern

Personally would have picked Draug for the Shadow Dragon pack since there don’t seem to be any playable armoured units in the game, but not bad selections from either of the three.

Hey, there’s no Severa, so that makes me happy enough.

    • Velen (Not WoW)

I agree on the no armored units part. Seems like a wasted opportunity not to have them.

  • Tlink7

Whoo Azura πŸ˜€ also I told you weebs Tharja would be in <3

    • StrawhatEevee

I can’t believe people thought she wouldn’t be. People will still argue she “isn’t popular”, but she obviously is and was saved to sell DLC as she is massively popular, but not story essential. Perfect DLC material from their perspective.

      • Tlink7

Yeah xD every time Awakening is mentioned, someone will scream ”THARJA MY WAIFUUU”

  • Vigilante_blade

    Q. Remember when they said “too many swords”?

    A. Navarre, Owain, Olivia.

    Q. Remember when they called this a celebration of Fire Emblem?

    A. None of the three more popular male characters in the series.

    Q. Remember when I said fanservice was going too far?

    A. Broken armour and brides….

    • Libra Riviera

We’ll just have to bide our time and see if there’ll be a sequal with the older game’s characters.

  • Pinkie-Dawn

    > Linde

    YES!

  • Yolkghost

I feel like it’s silly that some of the characters are already in the game in some capacity. Obviously tharja is a popular choice but other than that obro is the only one I care about and was hoping for better on the awakening side.

    • Vigilante_blade

Tharja actually fell from grace. She’s not as popular as she used to be a few years ago.

  • Julio Garcia

I literally was jumping for joy for Olivia making it to the DLC pack, I really thought Nowi would be more popular than her, but this DLC pack is worth buying twice just for the best girl.

Except its really lame to have 4 existing character as DLC, that’s Capcom levels of DLC management.

  • Jorge Armando Gomez

so we have to pay to be able to use characters that are already in the game

  • >No Kaden or Flannel

    Dropped

    • TDude73

      Dropped DEEZ!

  • Sweet Baby Tharja you so far away from me! Robin enjoy your time because Tharja will be coming for you

  • Lilfut

i refuse to purchase this game until they have literally anything from jugdral

    • TDude73

      Shut up, Meg.

      • Lilfut

there are more than 3 fire emblem games

        • TDude73

          Still… shut up, Meg.

  • Snackster1001

I guess I’m not buying the season pass then (well, maybe if there’s some cool costumes). Then again, I don’t plan on buying this game until a price drop or either Roy/Ike is added into the game as later DLC

    • TDude73

Too bad that you’ll be sorry.

  • Bruno_Ostara

I love those characters but feel really bad for old fire emblem fans. My favorites are almost all there since I started playing with awakening, but so many old loved ones are missing :/

  • Bart

    I like that picture.

    Thanks NE. :p

  • Teclis

Depending on financial situation, and whether or not the game still has my attention by then, I’ll give these a purchase.

  • Trey Chapman

Do we know what time this game will be on the eshop in NA?

  • Puffdaddy

Wait, my girl Tharja is coming??? Ohhh man, I was on the fence, but I’m buying this tomorrow just for that Tharja dlc in the future. Let’s go!

  • Christopher C

    MINERVA HYPE!!!!!!

  • γ‚γƒ

I’m happy for those who had characters they like get in. : )

    • Teclis

Hey look, a reasonable response, better whip out my camera and make some snap shots before it gets drowned out.

      • γ‚γƒ

It’s what I do xD I don’t really have any issue with people enjoying the game for what it is, and that’s coming from a “classic fan.” I may not be getting the game myself, but I certainly don’t want to stop those who may buy and enjoy it. : )

        • Teclis

As someone who started with Awakening, let me just take the time to tell you that I sincerely appreciate your outlook.

I would’ve liked to have seen some older characters in here as well, instead of what design they went for with the title, but I also realise the situation and that it’s the way it is.

          • γ‚γƒ

Yes, we’ll see how their strategy plays out in the end. : )

And no problem! Know at least one person welcomes you. xD An FE fan is an FE fan to me, regardless of games they started with or did/didn’t play : ) Glad to have you aboard!

          • Shirako Takamoto

I appreciate both of you guys! Civil and level headed thinking lol No arguements and respecting ones opinion on the matter at hand. I consider myself a Vet since i started with POR and RD. Played every game up till now over the years and id have to say im stoked for this since i actually enjoyed the newer games despite the flaws. Each game has its own flare is how i see it. But yea…sorry for the long reply lol im gonna get some rest for tomorrow and kick some butt in the morning! Fire Emblem for life! xD

          • γ‚γƒ

PoR and RD are among my favorites, RD being the game I’ve played through the most I think.

Flaws exist in the games of course, but it’s nice to celebrate what made the games fun or enjoyable to you and you alone, in the end. : )

            I hope you have fun!

          • Teclis

Speaking of celebrating series, let me ask you something particular: are the characters widely considered that important to the series as a whole, or are the mechanics, the planning and the story bits more important?

I’m trying to get a gauge on this, since FE means different things to different people. I know people that have played FE, but just skip all the dialogue and don’t bother with the story at all, yet they like FE all the same.

          • γ‚γƒ

As you can imagine, there are all sorts of fans. Myself, for instance, am mostly in it for the story! Though the gameplay did help in going from A to B to see what happens next, and I quite liked it, but find the former more important for my own gauge of enjoyment.

Then as you mentioned, there are those that are in it for the gameplay alone, and do not really care for the story, which is fine of course! The important part is that’s what they find most enjoyable. Ideally, getting the balance of both the above is the best, but also will vary person to person!

As for characters, when I think back to my own experiences I was usually in it for the overall story rather than all the smaller stories (of the characters). Of course when they managed both (such as Sacred Stones or FE9) it was really nicely done! But for example, Radiant Dawn lacks any real support conversations for the sheer amount of characters that are playable in that game…

However, to answer your question, I think the characters leave a more lasting impression. When looking at FE9 for instance, you would probably think of Ike before you think of his skill Aether. xD Or think of the Black Knight before you think of how annoying his fight was…

I use “you” as a general hypothetical here (for how I think). I’m sure someone out there will think of the gameplay before the characters, but the box art alone usually has the characters rather than gameplay displayed, so I’ll lean to characters being the more memorable part in the end. (They’re easier to carry over than gameplay aspects are too…)

          • Teclis

Well, most box-arts have characters displayed instead of gameplay. I’ve rarely actually seen box-art that has direct gameplay or something like that on it. All my game boxes have characters portrayed on them, optionally involved with the gameplay πŸ˜›

If I get this right, then FE means different things to different people, as we all tend to get what we enjoy out of it. Is it the newer fans “sin” to take theirs out of the new games, and not feel like trying the old ones that don’t have some of the draws the new ones have? And what does the majority of the FE fanbase want? since that’s what gets the sales in.

I found Fates’ story to be rather cringe-worthy at times, but I’ve enjoyed the gameplay and did, at least, understand what they were getting at. Awakening was an all-around great game for me, personally. Besides that, I’ve not felt the draw to try Valencia, though I have taken extensive looks at the story and gameplay, there wasn’t much there that got me to the point of wanting to try it.

          • γ‚γƒ

Games like Pac-man display gameplay AND characters on the box! (xD)

Yes, I don’t think that was really something that needed investigation. A fanbase is still a group of people in the end, and like groups of people things will mean different things to each and everyone. Sales will aim for whatever the majority may want indeed, hence why you get the FE13+ focus in the newer games. xD

Fates’ story had a lot of potential but then fell short (for me, for others it was fine I’m sure!) Awakening’s story went places, but I usually have issue with anything that involves time travel of the multi-dimensional sort, so again just a personal issue and why stories vary for people. On paper Awakening’s story looks nice though : )

I found Valencia too much of a drag xD I did want to see what happens next but those maps…ahhhhh… I did end up finishing it though, eventually! The story was fun, but not worth that slog in my case. xD

          • Teclis

Oh I get the dislike for multi-dimensions that way, I feel it was severely overdone in Bravely Default. It was intriguing the first couple of times, then ended up being so annoying, that I’ve just put the game away instead.

When I look at Valencia’s story (I’ve red the whole thing) I feel it’s as standard as it comes, almost like going through a list of tropes and having the story at the end. I found the jokes in Fates to be a dissonance (Like that of Izana) but when comparing it to Valencia, I suddenly get why they went for it: to make sure it wasn’t the same old standard story as FE apparently has the tendency to be, and I can respect that.

All in all, I hope Switch FE finds a middle ground for both fans to have an enjoyable time with, but at the same time I’m all too well aware that this kind of back and forth will never truly end.

          • Indielink

This is the most pleasant conversation I have seen about this game since it was announced.

          • γ‚γƒ

As TVTropes itself says, having Tropes isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It’s about how they’re put to use that’s important. A standard story can be more enjoyable than a complex story if the complex one becomes a mess… xD

I don’t think FE Fates’ changes via localization changed the story itself much though? Mostly just the little things here and there, though Izana’s was pretty big. xD

Yes, it’ll probably end when one takes a step back or leaves the fanbase entirely. xD Out of sight, out of mind. I don’t have any expectations for FE Switch, nor any excitement. That means I may at least enjoy it regardless of what shape it takes.

          • Teclis

I’d just like to see FE go a good route. I’ve seen one of my all-time favourite franchises end up shackled to it’s conservative fanbase. These people in question have sent death-threats to the developers for even thinking about changing something.

Sometimes I wonder if the old FE community wasn’t dangerously close to getting to that point.

          • γ‚γƒ

It’s a no win situation on one end, but looking at it as a no-lose situation is a more fun to look at it. It’s not that someone loses, but someone wins. xD

          • Teclis

I duly hope you end up enjoying it.

Huh, I guess I was sort of expecting a Hyrule Warriors where we got some freebies added via updates in regards to what was happening to our good ol’ NPC crew. Ah well, I know how these things go. While I do have my niche favorites, I can’t really complain with their chosen cast to start with.

Besides, I’m pretty sure I have a blind Warriors loyalty I’ve got to uphold with my Special Edition preorder! It’s a great co-op time with my girlfriend, so I’m looking forward to getting it in the morning.

Wait wait wait, Azura AND Tharja??? Now I’m DEFINITELY getting the DLC!

  • Supporter

Aww man! I was hoping for Donnel! Otherwise, I’m glad Azura and Tharja made it in. If I could choose any more DLC characters after these three packs, Hector, Ike, Roy, Alm and Donnel easily would’ve made the cut.

They could have added a couple more axe users than just Minerva, instead of 3 more sword fighters as even with Minerva, that only makes 4 of them, while 11 out of the 25 already available are sword users, I get that they are the easiest to add since 2 of them are already enemies within the game, but C’mon, they could have tried A bit harder with this one.
