Goodbye! BoxBoy! receives new details, including information on amiibo functionality
Nintendo opened the full Japanese Goodbye! BoxBoy! website today. New details about the game are shared, and we have news about how amiibo works.
Qbby and the rest of the gang who are riding the Box Ship are saving planets eroded by haze to restore the universe to its original form. With the ship, they head to a planet infested by haze, but Qbby ends up falling down to one planet in particular. The game picks up here.
As far as gameplay goes, first let’s go over the different powers:
– Box Rocket: When set up, the boxes will launch upwards
– Box Bomb: Can destroy terrain including spikes
– Box Warp: Qbby can instantly warp to the farthest box placed
– Box Remocon: Freely control the boxes from far away
And new gimmicks / stages:
– Wind area: Both Qbby and the boxes will be pushed by the direction of strong winds
– Water area: Qbby and the boxes float in water, but if Qbby steps on the boxes, the latter will sink by one box range
– Scales block: A couple of blocks that will change elevation depending on the weight of boxes (including Qbby) put on either of them
– Inverse area: A stage where gravity turns upside down and the top / bottom become reversed
Goodbye! BoxBoy! will have a total of 22 worlds and 150 stages, taking place across three planets. 40 challenge stages can be played as well. Returning features include the ability to quickly retry from a puzzle point, using coins to show hints, and Miiverse.
amiibo functionality will play a role in Goodbye! BoxBoy! Using the new Qbby amiibo, the color scheme will be changed to a Game Boy style. A costume for Qucy can be unlocked as well, which allows free usage of hints (perhaps no coins needed). Finally, on the topic of costumes, the Kirby amiibo also provide costumes.
