Posted on June 19, 2017 by (@OnePunchMaz) in 3DS, News

Nintendo has announced a new Japanese Nintendo Direct, which will air on Wednesday, June 21st, at 8 PM local time. The Direct, which will be 14 minutes long, will be all about Dragon Quest XI. According to the announcement, the Direct will be mainly about the 3DS version of the game and its exclusive features. It’s possible that the Switch version will also be shown off for the first time, though that’s not exactly a safe bet. Either way, we’ll know for sure in about 48 hours.

    Give us Switch version!!

  • Anti-Fan

No news on the localization?!?!? 🙁

    • Not from a JP Direct, no. It is weird that SE didn’t even take the time at E3 to talk release for either version. I have no clue what’s going on with them.

  • ben

I wont get hyped but if this is not the switch version what is the point? the 3ds version has been pushed really hard by Square Enix.

  • If only we could have a DQ11 Direct. This was the one game I really wanted to see at E3. TT_TT

    • Same. I’m hoping soon, but I’m still bitter at SE for not trying during E3.

  • Ragnell

What if the switch version was cancelled cuz a certain someone paid them off? Wonder what would go down

    • amak11

That’s anti-competitive and illegal and Sony can be taken to court over it. Hence why Nintendo went to court for it in the 90s

      • Fredy Rodriguez Ortega

there are rumors about MH World

        • In that case though, as far back as they started work on it, it sounds like it started as Sony moneyhatting it – not them approaching Capcom about a MonHun game already in the works. On top of that, Nintendo is still getting a MonHun of its own it seems.

        • donut

except those rumors were proven false time and time again, not sure why they keep getting brought up.

          • Fredy Rodriguez Ortega

do you have the sources? as long i know these rumors were said by the insider who leaks MH world one year ago

          • donut

if you go back and re-read those rumors and you’ll laugh at how wrong they have been. (you can find them here: http://m.neogaf.com/showpost.php?p=238287222&postcount=1 )

they claim that weapons would either be completely reworked or cut out because they’re too complicated for the new combat gameplay, and yet all 14 are in and play exactly as the same as 4th gen but with new moves.

they also claim quest timer/quests in general aren’t in, but in the gameplay demo they’re on a quest w/ a quest timer of 25 mins.

they claim mhxx was being rushed so it could make it out in time for the switch’s launch, and yet it came out 2 months before the switch, while the switch version isn’t even out yet. (which makes it sound like they thought mhxx was only coming out to switch and not 3ds)

i could keep going on if you want, but this comment is already long enough.

ERHUM Reworked items? Let me show you something: http://twinfinite.net/2017/06/big-changes-monster-hunter-world-brings-series/2/ Page 2 (the one you open the link at).

          • donut

            items =/= weapons

          • donut

yes. im spouting nonsense. proving the rumors wrong are wrong because they don’t match up with gameplay impressions and the trailer itself.

meanwhile, you’re willing to tell me they’re true because other rumors said so.

          • Fore

Who says that above part of the top is a rumour? And I’m not saying the 2nd part is true, merely that if it is, it makes sense.

          • donut

what you linked just says you can swap out the weapons from base camps at any time. the rumor straight up claims that “the new combat will force some weapons to be completely dropped”

devs/people who attended the live demo said all 14 weapons are in, and every gameplay impression ive heard claims the combat is the “next natural step from 4U” (gaijinhunter, projared, etc)

that’s kind of a huge thing to get wrong

          • Fore

“14 weapon types from across the Monster Hunter series will be fully usable in Monster Hunter World, but each and every one has been reworked. For example, at one point in the demo a Capcom representative switched to a heavy bowgun, which came with a whole host of different ammo types. Things like stun ammo, cluster bombs, and heavy ammo all have different uses that can cause various effects to enemies. Like past games, each weapon basically incorporates a different play style, with different strengths, combos, and attacks. Even longtime fans of Monster Hunter will need to learn the new ins and outs of each weapon, however.”

So, do tell me, where does it say things getting dropped/denying all the weapons aren’t in? I’m waiting.

          • donut

i can’t even tell what you’re trying to get at. the RUMORS are what claim they got dropped. you know, the ones everyone’s been insisting is true. the ones i linked earlier.

the thing you listed is obviously not rumors, it was posted today by some no-name website, come on.

i have no idea what you’re trying to tell me.

          • Fore

“if you go back and re-read those rumors you’ll laugh at how wrong they have been. (you can find them here: http://m.neogaf.com/showpos… )

they claim that weapons would either be completely reworked or cut out because they’re too complicated for the new combat gameplay, and yet all14 are in and play exactly as the same as 4th gen but with new moves.”

Your words, now read the above what you replied to.

You’re saying the rumours were false, I see a direct overlap between rumour, and statement that isn’t false.

          • donut

if by being reworked you mean new moves were added to it then of course, every monster hunter game does that. ANYONE could get that right.

          • Fore

So now you’re going around it trying to validate yourself when you’ve been proven wrong. Nice move.

          • donut

i haven’t been proved wrong. it’s just that your definition of “reworked” is completely wrong. the weapons are AS THEY WERE in MH4U, but extra moves added in. the rumors claim they were redone from the ground up or cut out completely because the gameplay is different. AGAIN, the gameplay is the same as 4U.

          • Fore

You clearly don’t know how the original bowguns work, so I’ll leave it at this.

And what do you base said gameplay on? The trailers? That show a few moments of combat? Well done Sherlock.

          • donut

no. YOU clearly don’t know how bowguns work. they’ve ALWAYS had different ammo types, and they’ve added new ones in EVERY game, even in generations.

          • Fore

Last thing I’ll say on it. As you can VERY CLEARLY see in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJuHMcjyBus

Do you see him running around, gunning like it’s GTA? No. A bowgun takes setup, time and skill. You have to think about when to use it, because it impacts your mobility heavily. In this GIF we casually see the hunter spray the crap out of the monster: https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/24dcbc3cc9d752c9a38b1488e5aface8c0c00d213d3e495c61cc042467ab0640.gif

          • donut

devs confirmed that was a skill (kind of like how you had hunter arts in generations) its not a thing you can do all the time. in fact there was a hunter art that straight up did this in generations.

also don’t act like you know anything about bowgun. you thought crag s, clust s, and heavy s were entirely new ammo types.

          • Fore

Never said I did, but nice job making things up.

          • donut

ok. if you didn’t, then what in that paragraph you kept linking to me is “new”. and if nothing, then why did you link it at all.

          • Fredy Rodriguez Ortega

@disqus_tMze76DQJ9:disqus most of the rumors were very accurate, you can not negate that

          • donut

            like what.

          • Fredy Rodriguez Ortega

I encourage you to figure it out by yourself

          • donut

how can i figure it out myself if there’s nothing to figure out to begin with? nothing in the rumor was true, figured that one out on my own.

      • GoldenTriforce

Ah stated below it seems like that might be happening with MH World. I doubt, however, that anyone payed anyone off to keep DQ XI on Switch late. Since its coming out late, Square Enix probably wants to not hurt sales of the first two versions, which is a stupid, but common, reason.

      • Ragnell

If rumors are true about this type of stuff, things aren’t gonna go well for gaming possibly

    • That wouldn’t even make sense. SE is good at losing themselves money, but given how long ago they started work on the game (when it was still the NX), that would be a terrible idea. And Sony wouldn’t be dumb enough to even pitch an idea like that to them.

      • Ragnell

Very true. I doubt that they’d do that but I wanted to stir up some crap with that comment lol. 50/50 joke/serious

        • Lol, you did stir the pot. x’D

Surprisingly, you’re not the only one that I’ve seen say that now. What’s going on with everyone today? >u<

          • Ragnell

I think everyone is just sick of third parties asking Nintendo owners “hey u want our game? Keep askin for it and we might make for switch!”. We shouldn’t have to beg, they’re supposed to convince us to buy their game, not the other way around.

It’s like they’re afraid to gamble cause they can’t compete against Nintendo ip. I mean is that it? Maybe we have too high standards? Idk.

          • I agree with that. Third parties absolutely do act tacky. They throw a couple of games at us (sometimes very lazy ports), and then act like that’s supposed to judge sales as a whole; yet, if they’re throwing lazy products at us, why should we just bite? They want us to take risk for them without bothering for us.

It isn’t about competing against Nintendo, at this point. Some are just lazy, or are probably wanting more back than they’re willing to put in.

  • GoldenTriforce

I will scream if they show the Switch version.

    • 😀 what will you do if they don’t?

      • GoldenTriforce

Nothing, it didn’t happen the last few times so I’m used to nothing happening.

    • JasonBall

A surprising amount of 2018 and beyond games when Nintendo lately has been very focused on whats within the following six months, yes. Metroid, Pokemon, Kirby, Yoshi, plus FE was confirmed in January.

      • GoldenTriforce

Yeah. So I could see Nintendo pulling some strings to try to get some Switch details for the direct in order to surprise us…. but its unlikely.

Once MHXX comes out, if it does well at least, however, then there is no way we don’t see the Switch version, because the Switch will start selling like hotcakes.

        • JasonBall

I… Don’t know about that mhxx thing. It’ll be up to Capcom and we all know how well they interpret the current market and consumer demand.

          • GoldenTriforce

Nintendo may also have some influence there. They’ve already started marketing though so I can see them continuing even with MH World releasing next year.

          • Locky Mavo

There’s “info” coming from the source that first leaked MH World, that Capcom is already making a new MH for Switch.

          • GoldenTriforce

Yeah I’ve heard that. I was more talking about making XX successful even with World releasing next year. If XX does well, a lot of Switches will be sold, and in turn, there is no way Square Enix wouldn’t show off the Switch version of DQ XI.

  • amak11

I wouldn’t call it a safe bet. Right up to two weeks prior to E3 rocket League devs were talking about how they would love the game on Switch, but didn’t think it was feasible. Looky now.

Square could be keeping quiet about it. They are afterall developing 2 versions of the same game, with higher interest on the 3ds version

  • awng781

DQXI on Switch has not been canceled. SE just doesn’t want to (or can’t) talk about it.

  • Given they’ve been showing a bit more of the features for the PS4 version, I get why this is a thing. And since it’s aimed at Japan, makes even more sense.

Hopefully the West will get a Direct soon. Or we get a Switch Direct soon.

    • JasonBall

Spotlight was literally six days ago.

      • Which one?

        • JasonBall

Nevermind, I misinterpreted your comment. I thought you wanted a broad Direct for Switch games six days after E3, but I now see you were specifically wanting a dqxi switch version direct. Right?

    • Fore

I’ll take your comment as a stepping stone from which to list that which we’ve not heard from in quite some time: Square’s Project Octpath, that FromSoftware game, Platinum’s Switch game, that one piece game, set to be out in a little longer than 3 months and yet my storefront told me they “didn’t have enough information to list it yet”, and that’s third-party stuff we just “know” about (along with me being sure I’ve missed other things, feel free to add on to it.).

      • Yeah, even the website for the Square game hasn’t been updated. And while that is SE, that is Asano’s team and they tend to let him do his own thing. (Which is really for the best.) I don’t remember the FromSoftware game? Gonna have to look that up. Same for Platinum’s Switch game. Where/when were these two announced or mentioned?

We did see a bit more on the OP game, but it is also going to PS4 and from Bamco. The OP game is coming in Japan in August, but we don’t know when for other territories. (Or did EU get a date already!??)

Sorry, my comment was a bit vague. I specifically meant a Western Direct for the 3DS version of DQ, or at least a Switch Direct for the game.

        • Fore

http://nintendoeverything.com/platinumgames-reconfirms-switch-project/ That and Platinum speaking of making their own IP is something to watch out for. Could easily not be a coincidence.

FromSoftware was mentioned in the starting list. It may as well have nothing to think of anymore, so I may as well have been wrong to even mention it.

          • Ah, I see. it was such a small tidbit at the end, and everything before it had me thinking it wasn’t going to be confirmed. (Which is to say, the way he was talking about the Switch.)

I’m really hoping the Granblue Fantasy Re:Link game is going to be multi-plat and that’s the project, or even Nier Automata port. I would love and adore both. But I’m always up for an original title by them. Heck, even if it’s not an action games; more Infinite Space and similar titles, please.

  • They would definitely say something if it were canceled. If SE wasn’t brave enough to, Nintendo would be quite forward about it. But we have to remember that Nintendo has been keeping the Switch version hush-hush since as far back as it was still regarded as the NX version.
