Nintendo on a roll they have 16 of the top 20 best sellers and there systems selling

    • Jacob Groves

Yep since Japanese gamers fall in love with Nintendo. It is how popular over there. Japan is Nintendo’s territory. 🙂

      • Apfel

mmm, not really…all sony is extremely successful…even vita does far better in Japan than the rest of the world.

        • TheJuiciest

Japan is absolutely Big N territory. They make up about 70% of console sales even on slower weeks. Japan is to Nintendo what Europe is to Sony.

          • ForeVision

Is Sony that popular in Europe? As far as I’m aware, Europe is mostly PC-gaming territory.

          • awng781

The PS4 is one of the fastest selling consoles ever in Europe. There are afew European territoriea where the PS4 will eventually outsell the PS2 (with Germany being one of them).

          • DrWilly

PS4 success has nothing to do with it. Even the PS3 did good numbers in Europe, so that should tell you enough about European taste.

          • awng781

Sony is simply very strong in Europe. The PS1 was the first console to become a large mainstream success in Europe, and it has been that way since for the PlayStation consoles.

          • Gemmol Lewis

sony own most of europe, Nintendo own only france and italy which do not give it enough sales to outsell sony so @awang0718:disqus is correct on ps4 one of the fastest in europe

          • Apfel

Not only I went to Japan, and I have an empiric proof, here are the console sales in Japan. You can look this up for yourself.

            Console sales in Japan

            – n64 – 5.5m

            – ps1 – 19.3

            – Gamecube – 4m

            – PS2 – 23.1m

            – Wii – 12.77m

            – PS3 – 10.4m

            – Wii U – 3.3m

            – PS4 – 4.5m

            Portables

            – DS – 33m

            – PSP – 20m

            – 3DS – 22.5m

            – PSVita – 5.5m

4 home console gens, 2 portable gens, Nintendo outsold Sony with the Wii, DS and 3DS…Don’t be such a fanboy.

          • DrWilly

And you omitted Game Boy sales because?

          • Apfel

Because at that time Sony was developing the new version of the Walkman…Your fanboyiism has no limits, right?

          • DrWilly

This discussion is about the gaming industry. And stop throwing that word around you clown.

          • Apfel

Precisely, about industry and you don’t care about facts and numbers. You have mastered the art of trolling…or you have a serious lack of intelligence. The fact that you like your own posts confirms my second theory.

          • DrWilly

Don’t make me laugh. You are the one ignoring sales numbers to make Sony look better.Stop being such a deluded little fanboy. Now get lost you ignorant troll.

          • Gemmol Lewis

game boy numbers do count, even if sony was or was not around, they still face other people so they won a lot more in japan than any other give nintendo their props and admit @disqus_ZxkOtgYTdi:disqus correct

          • TheJuiciest

~70%. This is Nintendo’s share of the gaming market on a given week in the current year over there and the only big game they released was MK8D. Zelda isn’t even that popular over there compared to some of their other titles. That’s not a trivial number.

It’s great reliving the PS2 days, but that was a long time ago. Kids that played it are in their late 20s or 30s now. The market in Japan has changed dramatically when you look at that chart and then look at the present day chart above.

        • DrWilly

So? Doesn’t change the fact that Japan is Nintendoland and has been for over a decade. You can look up any chart, I dare you to find any year when Nintendo didn’t own at least half of the japanese market.

  • Stuart

Man,look at the XBox One,a boost of almost 500%. Xone is saved XD

    • Jacob Groves

Lol that is because of Holidays. It going badly down next week or so. It is like every japan’s holidays / Christmases that saw Xbox generation systems bit up because of those seasons. 😛

    • Apfel

Killer Instinct is a system seller….

    • Still didn’t even sell the last 3 digits of the Switch or ps4 😛

  • Kirby Planet Robobot is on the list!!! Yay!

  • nekoknight

    Japanese sales to date:
    PS Vita (released 12.17.2011): 5,261,206
    New 3DS (released 10.11.2014): 5,207,506
    PS4 (released 02.22.2014): 4,675,620*
    Wii U (released 12.08.2012): 3,232,557
    SWITCH (released 03.03.2017): 825,163
    2DS (released 02.27.2016): 405,701
    *includes Pro sales

    • DrWilly

Why aren’t regular 3DS sales accounted for?

      • nekoknight

I’ve answered this question many times before. The reason I don’t list total sales of regular 3DS units is because I simply don’t know what they are. And in order to find out, I would have to spend hours sifting through countless Media Create articles and add up all of the numbers, and I just don’t have the time to do that. Just assured though, with all models combined, the 3DS has sold over 20 million units in Japan. So right now, the 3DS is king of the Japanese market.

    • ben

Why do you track ps4 pro with ps4 but track 3ds sales all separately? That makes no sense.

      • Eagle367

Because ps4 needs those extra sales whole 3ds combined is so far ahead the vita would need a telescope to find it. And the new 3ds is about to outsell the vita. Isn’t that fantastic

      • nekoknight

I was going to track PS4 and PS4 Pro sales separately in the beginning, but due to a mistake that I made a few months back, I realized that I had been accidentally combining PS4 and PS4 Pro sales. But instead of going back through all of the Media Create articles and re-counting both systems separately, I decided to save myself the trouble and just continuing listing both sales together. I will say that Pro sales make up for an extremely small percentage of PS4 sales; the Pro models are not doing well at all.

  • GoldenTriforce

Switch sales are on track to outpace 3DS sales by the end of the quarter (compared to 3DS’s second quarter sales)

Very funny to see that Wii U actually had a stronger launch than Switch in japan, that is just amazing. Wii U thug life. 3DS is just..wow. You can see the point when Animal Crossing released.

      • awng781

The Wii U launched in December, so that’s why it had a strong performance during its first month. Too bad sales collapsed immediately after the holidays ended and never recovered.

That 3DS spike you see was from the 2011 price cut. This chart only shows Year 1 (first 52 weeks) sales for all platforms. Animal Crossing was released on November 2012 in Japan, way beyond the scope of this graph.

        • Justin McQuillen

You got me, I had just assumed it was because of AC

    • R.Z.

And that line is entirely defined by the stock Nintendo is sending to Japan …
I don’t like that you can’t see a clear tendency because of the shortages, would the sales have started declining by now ?

What I really find strange is that shipped units don’t match up with the amounts sent out for 3DS and WiiU. How come ?
Was Nintendo expecting the system to “bomb” ?
      Were there manufacturing issues ?

      • awng781

Both the 3DS and Wii U were seriously overshipped at launch.

Nintendo shipped around 1.06 million 3DSs to Japan in its first quarter (Q1 2011) and 0.83 million Wii Us to Japan in its first quarter (Q4 2012), expecting most of those shipments to sell out fairly quickly. Yet, by looking at that graph, it took well over 3 months for Nintendo to sell through their launch shipments for both Wii U and 3DS.

Nintendo wanted to avoid that problem with the Switch, though their caution has resulted in shortages.

    Mario Kart 8 sales:
    Week 1: 325,000
    Week 2: 73,000 – 398,000 LTD

    Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sales:
    Week 1: 285,000
    Week 2: 90,000 – 375,000 LTD

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe had a lower opening week than Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, but it looks like it will have better legs than the original.

    • TDude73

Always on point when it comes to gathering information from left to right. Thumbs up, awng781!

    • Ryan Mahaffey

Doubtful, less people bought MK8 because not as many people have access to Switches.

    • Gemmol Lewis

@ryan_mahaffey:disqus @tdude73:disqus his information is flawed………the reason it is flawed because Mario Kart 8 was release on the Wii U with over 1 million Wii U hardware sold might even be 2 million Wii U hardware when it came out…………Switch on the other hand with low stock still have not sold 1 million consoles so for it to be this close that would mean Mario Kart 8 deluxe is tracking ahead

      • awng781

I’m just presenting the data. Yes, the Wii Us install base was higher than the Switch’s when their respective versions of MK8 were released, which makes MK8D’s sales even more impressive.

        • Gemmol Lewis

Sorry if my message came out and offend your post

  • Justin McQuillen

when you win so hard you can’t even get a switch because all the plebs who refused to buy a Wii U bought them all

  • R.Z.

So what’s the reason for that drop in Switch sales ?
Low stock once again or reduced interest ?

    • awng781

      Low stock.

    • Gemmol Lewis

      low stock
