So 25K copies of Xenoverse and it sold out…I dont know look like few copies.

    • Remember these are the physical numbers.

      • Shonenfan

I think he knows that since digitally cant be sold out lol

    • Gemmol Lewis

They did not send many thinking it would not sell much, so all it sold was 25k

      • Shonenfan

Uh no? Its not that they thought it wouldnt sell much. Even dragonball heroes 3ds had only a few shipments throughout Japan.

    • Namco Bandai didn’t ship many copies.
It’s also number 3 on the Japanese eShop.

      • Exposer

Maybe they didnt have faith in the game, but now they must fulfill its promise.

        • Yup it does seem like they didn’t have any confidence it would sell well. So they probably shipped like 30K copies.
They probably should’ve shipped 100K. Because Switch owners in Japan aren’t gonna wait for this shipments coming at the end of the month since they are buying them digitally.

          • C_Ali88

on Ps4 Xenoverse 2 only sold in between 61,000-67,000 copies in its first week.

I’d say they were being conservative but rightly so. They didn’t expect the Switch to sell a year old game better than the console it launched on a year previous, especially given that console had about 4 million units in the wild vs NS 1.5 million.

    • C_Ali88

It is a “few” but context must be given.

      1) The game is nearly if not already a year old.
      2) The original platform it released on (ps4) had literally millions of more consoles sold at the point of its release.
      3) Last but not least comes the fact that even on Ps4 Xenoverse 2 only sold in between 61,000-67,000 copies in its first week.

So quite frankly it has exceeded expectation or estimates from Bamco. Hence their tweet of it being sold out. If they had of shipped more they could’ve had sold more I’m sure.

  • kaito

    UNSTOPPABLE!

  • Puffdaddy

Wait Japan likes Destiny??? Huh, who know.

    • Bradley

      haven’t you seen this

    • C_Ali88

With that drop from Destiny(1) I’d say only a very small percentage like Destiny as a series.

Literally sold on par with the ps3 version of Destiny (1)… Which to say is poor. What’s week is Splatoon 2 on again?? Either way it should have sold more than MHXX NS first week, which it did NOT. poor.

    • Erhe R.

      50k isn’t much.

  • Stuart

MhXX is holding ok. Nice launch for Xenoverse 2,too bad that next week it will probably fall a lot more than it should since Bandai already said it is sold out and will only ship more the end of the month.

  • Leonel

The numbers for xenoverse 2 aren’t that high but maybe they didn’t ship more copies. Wonder how many copies they thought would sell

    • Reggie

It sold out. Bandai just didn’t ship that many.

  • Tlozbj

While not exactly good, Xenoverse’s 2 numbers aren’t that bad either. Its a late port, with low physical copy stock, and with DBZFigthers looming over it, yet it opened to around a third of the PS4 version, 24k vs 66k

    • Eagle367

      And it sold out

  • nekoknight

Japanese hardware sales as of 9/10/2017 according to Media Create:
    New 3DS (released 10.11.2014): 5,464,236
    PS Vita (released 12.17.2011): 5,335,500
    PS4 (released 02.22.2014): 5,228,128*

    New 2DS LL (released 07.13.2017): 277,083
    *includes Pro sales

    • kurodo

I still don’t understand why you count ps4+pro but ignores all 2/3ds family.

      • Eagle367

That would be too boring. But he should also include just the ps4 and we’ll see if it can outsell the vita alone

      • Indielink

He’s already explained this. Several times in the last few weeks. He made a mistake while counting Pro numbers and just combined them rather than going back to Day 1 and redoing everything. And he didn’t start counting til after the 3DS launched and doesn’t want to go back and sift through articles from 2011.

    • Roto Prime

      Thank you <3

      • nekoknight

        You’re welcome. ^_^

    • C_Ali88

The holiday cometh and Switch is about to EXPLODE, I’d say Switch between 3-3.5 millions by Nov 12. Passed 4m in Japan by early January.

  • awng782

The original DBXV2 on PS4 sold 61,000 copies at launch, so a year-late Switch port selling 25,000 copies at launch is quite good.

Destiny 2 launch sales dropped 66% over launch Destiny 1 sales…ouch…

  • Those XBOX One sales <3 lol

  • Reggie

You know what, it just occurred to me that Bandai Namco could be deliberately shooting themselves in the foot.

They said that they would only consider FighterZ for Switch if Xenoverse 2 sold very well, yet the game sold out with only 25k copies sold, which implies that Bandai Namco has little confidence in XV2 and only shipped out limited copies. And yet they still had the gall to make that ultimatum about FighterZ.

This just further convinces me that even if Xenoverse 2 is a best seller in Japan and the west, Bandai Namco will still decide that Switch is not viable for FighterZ.

    • I am kinda mixed on it. I wonder if they meant selling well for their estimate, or if they meant matching or out-performing. I wonder if they’ll still be conservative with the re-stocking; I would be.

They did sound happy with those numbers though, so I think that’s a good sign.

I’m not interested in FighterZ and am barely interested in XV2, but i really hope they see the potential and worth of it, and deliver FighterZ on the Switch. We’ll see how quickly they restock and how the game does, but I’ll bet the digital sales give them some faith too.

      • Reggie

I’m in about the same boat. I don’t like fighters, especially the more intense ones, which is why XV2 is a little more appealing to me. I’m also wanting it because I sympathize with those who want FighterZ, but it doesn’t mean that I myself want FighterZ. At either rate, I’m sure I’ll still enjoy XV2 even if I suck at it, lol.

        • I tend to enjoy fighting games, but I am very picky about them. Yeah, it’s nice to see the library rounded out, even if we don’t want the particular titles. Here’s hoping we enjoy XV2~. It does look good.

I’m interested to see what Bamco will have in the Direct as well. There may have been a small hint that we may get Tales of news.

          • Reggie

I’d love it if we could get a sequel or some kind of continuation to Dragon Ball Fusions. It’s actually a decently good RPG that’s worth expanding. Sadly I don’t think that will happen….

          • I don’t remember that one much, but I wonder if they might down the line. Never know, nowadays.

          • Reggie

I’m not sure. There was a DB game for the DS that a lot of people liked, and seemed to end on a cliffhanger, but Bandi Namco chose to abandon it. It’s pretty sad.

        • C_Ali88

You honestly can’t sell more than you ship, how can a sales estimate assess for more than you produce? This is very well imo, Bamco isn’t Capcom

Nearly 50% of what sold first week on Ps4 a YEAR ago is actually quite good. Given that Ps4 had 4m consoles sold in japan at the time. Switch has only 1.5m.. Giving the Switch the edge in attach rate

          • Reggie

            Lawl, what?

Bandai shipped limited quantities of the game. Those limited quantities sold out. There’s your answer.

          • C_Ali88

What I said, you just put it layman terms…… Unnecessarily.

          • Reggie

Still not really convinced. Devs can say literally anything in the world and won’t really mean it, especially if it’s only said to save face, such as covering their biases. Yeah I’d like it if Fighter Z would be announced for Switch, but I’m not wholly convinced that will happen.

          • C_Ali88

A bit of healthy skepticism is great but sometimes it doesn’t matter if you are convinced or not. Some people just aren’t willing to believe something that hasn’t been said right out of the cows mouth.

The scenario is this for Bamco, Sell only in Japan on the Ps4 where nary a game hits a million, going by their last release in Xenoverse 2 60k first week, 130k LTD in japan. OR release on PS4 and NS in Japan and quite possibly double your sales if not more. Xboxone doesn’t sell in Japan and the only way to get sales on that front would be the UK&US where the Ps4 leads heavily. So What reason do they have NOT to release it on the Switch?

It would just supplant the Xbox because we know its flailing.

Lastly, this: “producer Tomoko Hiroki said” We want players to first go there,” Hiroki said about bringing Xenoverse 2 to Switch, according to Destructoid. “And then we can talk about FighterZ.”

It should come. Whether thats enough or not we will see.

          • Reggie

Yes he said that, but he could have just been saying that to save face for all we know. It doesn’t mean they are fully committed.

Don’t get me wrong, I would love to be proven false. But that’s a thing that remains to be seen.

    • ben

Preorders were just not that high so Bamco didn’t make the carts.

      • Reggie

Regardless. If they aren’t holding much confidence in XV2, then it means they’re really not all that interested in porting FighterZ. I imagine they just said what they said to avoid too much backlash. Developers can say anything, it doesn’t mean they hold much stock in it.

        • ben

Well, yeah… but they are in this business to make money. Not making a simple game like FighterZ for the switch would be just dumb. And I accept that both Capcom and Bamko are looking pretty dumb at the moment.

          • Reggie

I don’t know if FighterZ could be considered a “simple” port. XV2 runs at 30fps with multiple fighters, and I’d argue that it’s less intense than FZ.

  • ben

We cant blame bamko for the low shipments. The switch is weird. People don’t preorder games for it and just buy day one instead. Monhun xx must be close to 70% sold physical now as well.. Considering that it is still not available at amazon Japan and that XX has been selling better than minecraft on the eshop… Capcom must be pretty happy.

    • C_Ali88

I wouldn’t say thats the reason for the low shipment. I’d say Bamco is just more in tune with reality than lets say Crapcom is…

Capcom is the type to expect a year old port of a 3ds game to sell 150,000 first week, When the game has sold millions already in that region. Oh and you’ve just announced a console successor mere months ago!

      While….

Bamco understands that it sold in-between 61,000-67,000 copies in its first week on Ps4 a year ago, with a bigger installed base at that. Ship 30,000 sell between 15-18k and make profit.

Thats why Namco were not only surprised it sold out but were unprepared for an immediate restock. Given that it has already likely made back Bamco’s investment the rest is gravy. While Capcom continues to pass on Switch and charge 50$ for 25 year old games… Crapcom needs help.

  • hi v3.0

Depressing sales this week tbh..AND KONOSUBA

  • awng782

Switch shipments in Japan will probably begin to slow down a bit as Nintendo prepares to ship more hardware to the west. The Switch’s upcoming games lineup in September is extremely western focused when it comes to sales.
