If you’re like me, you may have never heard of Kindle before, and if you’re also like me, you probably have no idea what the Kindle ebook reader is either. Nintendo President Satoru Iwata does, however, and has expressed interest in putting a similar service on the DSi or DSi XL.

“I’m interested because it’s a new business model in which the user doesn’t bear the communications cost.”-Nintendo President Satoru Iwata,

Iwata also said, however, that the service doesn’t fit well with Nintendo as of now. If we see it on DSi at all, it’ll probably be a lot cheaper than it is on many other platforms!

“Only people who can pay thousands of yen a month [in mobile phone subscriptions] can be iPhone customers. That doesn’t fit Nintendo customers because we make amusement products,”

What Kindle/WhisperNet does is allows users to access a 3G internet connection anywhere, with no extra attachments. The service would always be turned on, but would cost users a periodic fee to use. I’m not sure if this would really appeal to me as a gamer, but for those in the more casual crowd, this may give the DSi a slight advantage over the iPhone. What do you guys think? Would you like to see something like this on DS?

As gamers on Halloween, many of us don’t have plans and shan’t do anything this evening other than do what we do every night: Play games. I’m joking of course, but what about those of us that really don’t have plans tonight? Or maybe we plan on playing games with some of our friends? Do we game the same way we always do, or should we play certain games to enhance the “halloween” feel? I’m not sure what all of you are doing to get yourself in the mood, but I know what 2 games I’ll be playing.

Note from Valay: I checked over the submissions as well and I was pretty impressed. Don’t be discouraged if you didn’t win this challenge though, as there will be a few other oppoortunities before someone is chosen to receive the free VC/WiiWare game.

Sorry about the delay guys, I’ve been super busy and barely have the time to type this up as it is! Taking that into account, let’s cut past the chit chat and get right into the meat!

A résumé for ex-Eurocom animator seems to have let out a bit more information that EA may have desired, naming “Goldeneye 2010” as one of his pieces of past work. Apparently, Craig Peck (the man behind the résumé) worked as an animator on “Activision’s James Bond series for the Nintendo Wii”, and much of his job involved “key frame animation, the preparation and clean-up of motion capture data, prop animation, in-game cut-scene animation, scene layout, and camera animation.”. Of course, no word on whether this means anything or not yet, but as the news comes in we’ll be sure to stay on top of it!

Generally, Japanese stock market index Nikkei doesn’t bring too much in terms of major gaming announcements, but today it brings two. First, we learned of a new DSi model, and now a report from the index tells that Capcom is going to bring their high-end engine, MT Framework, over to Wii. The engine has powered such games as Resident Evil 5 and Lost Planet 2, and it looks as though the company is interested in using the move to not only increase production efficiency, but to include Wii versions of more of their multiplatform games.

As of now, there is no news on what games would be using the engine on Wii, but if you had to speculate, where would your predictions lay?

Hey all! I’ve just got a quick of update for everyone regarding some recent happenings with the site.

Scribblenauts Contest

As many of you are aware, the past two weeks have been home to the very first Scribblenauts challenge in our bi-weekly contest, and submissions are officially closed! I’ve started looking over the solutions you all put forward, and I must say, I’m impressed! Reading over what you guys thought up sure made me feel unimaginative! Nevertheless, a winner will be announced tomorrow evening, and a video of their solution being completed will be posted to showcase what they did! Good luck to everyone that gave it a shot, and remember, if you didn’t win this time you can always try again in the next challenge! In addition to the winner, the next challenge will also be posted tomorrow. Hope to see everyone again for the next round!

Excerpt from a recent interview with Popular Mechanics:

“With both the Wii remote itself and Wii MotionPlus, what we’ve been able to do is introduce an interface that is both I think appealing and at the right price for a broad audience. And while we don’t have any concrete plans for what we’ll be doing with hardware in the future, what I can say is that, my guess is that because we found this interface to be so interesting, I think it would be likely that we would try to make that same functionality perhaps more compact and perhaps even more cost-efficient.”

To be completely honest, Nintendo is probably nearing completion on the “Wii 2” and Miyamoto probably knows about it. Nevertheless, what do you guys think? Would you be satisfied with a smaller, cheaper, more powerful Wii as Nintendo’s next console?

Update: Apparently, the DSi Shop Channel is down as well (thanks to Valay for informing me!). As soon as we find out when they’re back up, we’ll be sure to let you guys know!

When I tried to access the Wii Shop Channel today, a message popped up notifying me that the Wii Shop Channel was being worked on, and (as usual) didn’t give me any sort of time frame as to when it’d be back up. Normally this wouldn’t really merit much of a news story (the Wii Shop Channel has been down numerous times in the past with little or no visible improvements) but in light of Denise Kaigler’s recent comments about online Wii owners getting a bit of a surprise soon, this may be worth watching.

More info as it comes in!
