will be reviving the classic SEGA Genesis title James Pond through a Kickstarter campaign this week. Thankfully, both the Wii U and 3DS are included in Gameware’s plans for the project.

Speaking with Nintendo Life, the company’s PJ Belcher said:

We very much believe that Pond belongs on console and the fan base is showing a huge amount of love for the Wii U! The Wii U and 3DS are of course in our project plan, but what platforms we support will be up to the fans. We’re offering a unique opportunity for the backers to vote on which platforms they would most like to see Pond appear on, and they are the ones that we’ll target.

Obviously each platform has its own design considerations beyond a basic port (2nd screen for instance) and we will of course will be looking for ways to make the most of these unique features.

While the Mega Drive / Genesis version of Robocod is possibly the most famous, people have very fond memories of Pond on the SNES — on which it was called Super James Pond — and to see Pond back on that system’s modern equivalent would be awesome!

If there’s one feature that’s been requested more than any other for the eShop, it’d be unified account. Users on both Wii U and 3DS have requested this functionality so that they don’t have to worry about their games being tied to any hardware they purchase.

Nintendo hasn’t introduced a unified account system for either of its platforms, but according to Nintendo of America’s head of business development Dan Adelman, the company is “very much aware of” the feedback.

Adelman told Destructoid:

Based on a listing on Nintendo’s website, Super Mario Bros. will be released on the North American Wii U eShop next week as a Virtual Console download. Pricing will be set at $4.99.

In other news, Super Mario Bros. 3’s VC release also appears to be on the horizon. Listings for Wii U as well as 3DS have been discovered, but no date is included. I imagine we’ll be seeing the game in the near future.

Cut the Rope will be hitting the North American 3DS eShop next week, according to a listing on Nintendo’s website. It’ll be joined by Rage of the Gladiator – another downloadable title coming out on Thursday.

That’s assuming the listing is correct, of course. Nintendo’s database has occasionally been inaccurate.
