Overall, 3DS sales have improved since the system’s initial launch. It is, however, still struggling a bit overseas.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata told investors at a meeting last week that 3DS sales have stabilized in Japan and have some momentum. But in the U.S. and Europe, “the sales pace went down after the beginning of 2012.” Iwata believes the 3DS XL and New Super Mario Bros. 2 can improve the situation.

Iwata also commented on how “one of the difficulties Nintendo is facing in terms of spreading the Nintendo 3DS is the difference of the mainstream products between Japan, where the handheld video games are the main products, and the U.S., where the home console video games are the main ones.”

Don’t count on a waterproof 3DS or a system with a high quality sound anytime soon. Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has said that the company has no plans to introduce value-added models in the near future.

Iwata told investors recently that introducing too many 3DS models could make consumers unsure about which product they should purchase. He compared the situation to cell phones, of which there are “too many options”. Iwata wouldn’t rule anything out for the long-term future, however.

Nintendo only introduced the 3DS XL due to requests for a larger screen. Iwata noted that the DSi XL was well-received when it was released.

Final Fantasy Versus XIII still hasn’t been released, yet one of the game’s songs managed to find its way into Theatrhythm Final Fantasy. In a new interview, producer Ichiro Hazama explained how the piece found ended up in the music title as downloadable content.

Head past the break for Hazama’s commentary on this topic as well as why some games in the Final Fantasy series weren’t represented in Theatrhythm, how the title’s concept evolved, and thoughts about other Square Enix IPs that could take the musical route in the future.

Goodbye Galaxy Games’ next DSiWare title, Ace Mathician, has received a final release date. CIRCLE Entertainment will publish the DSiWare download on July 12. No word yet on pricing, but it’ll probably be set somewhere in the neighborhood of $4.99 / 500 points.

Nintendo Power has released a public preview of this month’s magazine. Titles featured include New Super Mario Bros. 2, Mighty Switch Force HD, Adventure Time: Hey Ice King! Why’d you steal our garbage?!, and an article about the classic games from 1987.

The issue arrives on newsstands on June 10 and has already started to reach subscribers.

Nintendo Power has published the first images from “Adventure Time: Hey Ice King! Why’d you steal our garbage?!”. A couple of screenshots and two pieces of art can be found above.

According to WayForward, the Adventure Time 3DS/DS project will contain adventure gameplay. The studio considered making it a puzzle-platformer or brawler, but thought that it wouldn’t be true to the show’s title.

WayForward designer Matt Bozon said the team “decided that something like Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link was the common ground.”

He added:

“Because of this our top-view areas focus on quests and exploration, and the side view combines combat with platforming.”

More information can be found in the July 2012 issue of Nintendo Power.
