Despite a massive pile of listener mail this week, we manage to wrangle the podcast length down to 135 minutes compared to last week’s 180 minute unfinished monster. It’s also a really solid podcast! What we played: Call of Duty: Ghosts, Wii Fit U, Sonic: Lost World, and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies. No discussion topic, but a LOT of listener mail rounds this out!

Jack drew a pretty picture of Link and Laura at the end of the last stream.

Twelve hours after finishing our Extra Life 24-hour live stream, we record another podcast! We discuss Batman (aka Austin excessively criticizes it), Mario Sunshine, Mario Galaxy 2, and 3D platforming, Wind Waker vs. Skyward Sword (and other Zeldas), the PS1 game ‘LSD’, as well as some great listener mail and a bit of news. This episode was way too long though. We’re working on that.

The 64th episode means a tribute to Nintendo’s 64-bit console is in order! Aside from that we talk a lot about Pokémon X and Y, Wind Waker HD (and how it holds up), Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies, answer a lot of listener mail, and go over your news. In addition, we’ve got into about our Extra Life 25-hour marathon here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kusOu1k72hs

I hope you guys like talking about Pokémon and other JRPGs!

Another kick-butt show this week! ‘What we played’ contains lots of talk on Wind Waker HD vs. other Zelda games, the merits of JRPGs as a genre of game, and some talk about Pokémon X/Y. A heaping pile of listener mail on a huge variety of topics rounds out the end of the show. Thanks, everyone!

Jack came up with a fantastic analogy about toilet seats during this episode.

This is the best I’ve felt about a podcast in a while! We had discussions (as per usual) about game design, we talk about Pokémon X/Y and Wind Waker HD in WWP, we go over news, we tackle yet another belligerent emailer who is very angry at Nintendo, and we talk a bit about “abject” fun vs. “intellectual” video gaming and which types we prefer. This (plus much more!) makes for quite an action-packed show!

So strange. So fantastic.

If you enjoy EarthBound, this is the episode for you. Most of it was regular “Here’s a Podcast” nonsense, but the last 45 minutes were dedicated to discussing that esoteric and beloved 1994 game from designer Shigesato Itoi, and I think it was an extremely fitting tribute. WWP includes Kerbal Space Program, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies, and Harvest Moon/Rune Factory 4; listener mail includes some stuff I cant’t remember.

Laura talks more than ever about 999 and Gone Home!

Predictably, we got a fair share of listener mail this week on the topic of sexism in games, so we do some more discussing of that topic during our reader mail segment. Beyond that, Laura talks a lot about 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors and Gone Home, whereas Austin discusses his review copy of Rune Factory 4. Jack chimes in with some useful life advice after the break, and a giant chunk of listener questions mail ends the show! No reader poll or book club this week.

Accidental topic of the week: Grand Theft Auto V, and how it relates to gender roles in video games.

The highlight of this podcast, in my opinion, is the heated discussion we spontaneously had about the issue of sexism and gender in games. Aside from that, we go over your news, the games we played during the week, some great listener mail about games that we want to love but simply can’t, and a feature topic about The Wind Waker HD. Enjoy!

Wonderful-101-590x235

When the job’s too ominous for your average Jill or Joe…

It’s funny how much a broken computer fan can completely destroy your concentration during a podcast, and because of that, you can expect plenty of non sequiturs and tangents during this episode! Other than that, it’s pretty straightforward: Some talk about The Wonderful 101, Tangram Style, and Bit.Trip Runner rounds out What We Played, news makes its return, listener mail is pretty solid, and our book club about the next section of EarthBound was quite good!
