General Nintendo

We exist as a fundraising group dedicated to raising money for various organizations through the medium of video game marathons streamed live over the Internet. We provide entertainment for our viewers, including a live commentary feed so that they can interact with the members of our group and a method to actively donate. We strive to provide a suitable and courteous environment in which to show that video games are not always as bad as the media might otherwise suggest and to provide people with a place they can come together to watch something they might enjoy while being able to donate to worthy causes and help out the community while enjoying themselves.

This July 10th, beginning at 5:00pm CST time we are going to be hosting a 72 hour gaming marathon streamed live from our website, http://returnersgaming.blogspot.com to raise money for Child’s Play. Our donation period begins on the 6th and ends on the 20th of July. All donations go directly to Child’s Play without us seeing even one cent of the money raised. Either a credit card or a PayPal account is necessary to donate but assuming people cannot donate they can continue to help us out by spreading the word about the marathon.

This marathon is going to deal with RPGs from the Nintendo 64 era and back. As such no recent games are going to be played during the marathon. Our current roster of games consists of Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Super Mario RPG, Final Fantasy IV, and Final Fantasy IX. Other games may well be added to this list as the time of the marathon grows closer.

There’s a good chance that we may never see any of these trademarks translate to future Wii channels, games, or products. Nintendo might have just decided to take a few protective measures.

As you can see, there doesn’t seem to be much of a point to the clips. They’re also rather short.

Develop Conference, 14-16 July 2009, Brighton – www.developconference.com
A survey commissioned by the Develop Conference (14-16 July, Brighton) has revealed that Japanese games legend Shigeru Miyamoto is the game developers’ game development hero.

In a poll of 9,000 game developers from across the globe, almost one third (30 per cent) of respondents recognised Miyamoto as their ultimate development hero, ahead of an impressive top ten, which reads as follows:

tingle_famitsu_scan

In more ways than one, Tingle is considered to be the outcast character of the Zelda franchise. But that did not stop Nintendo from letting the man star in his own game. Freshly-Picked Tingle’s Rosy Rupeeland for the DS saw a release in both Europe and Japan, but the title never reached North American shores. Even though the game appeared to not have performed fantastically, Nintendo may be readying a new Tingle experience. A scan being passed around the web from the latest Famitsu is hinting that the fairy-crazed, 35-year-old could be involved in a new title. As you can see above, Tingle, a short phrase, and Nintendo’s website appear in the image. Perhaps we’ll hear more about this soon.

Los Angeles, CA – June 4, 2009 – The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) today closed the 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3 Expo) and announced that the 2010 E3 Expo will take place from June 15-17, 2010, at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Over the course of the 2009 E3 Expo, more than 41,000 attendees from 78 countries viewed hundreds of new products and developments from 216 exhibitors.

The 2009 E3 Expo was designed to better meet the needs of exhibitors and attendees by focusing on value, while maintaining the excitement and energy that fuels the $22 billion U.S. marketplace for computer and video game entertainment.

Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto was absent from Nintendo’s E3 press conference this year. However, he will be hosting a round table later today. This event is actually where Super Smash Bros. Brawl was unveiled. Could gamers be in for a similar treat tonight?

“We’re all about surprises. We will show that game when it’s ready. At the right time. Close to when it’s going to be launched. It’s not there yet. But Mr. Miyamoto still has his roundtable to do, so maybe you’ll see. Maybe you might get that surprise after all…If you look at how Mr. Miyamoto has interacted in our press conferences, it’s been a wide range — everything from making an appearance at the end in 2004 to being on hand to do a demo. This year, given all the content that we had, we thought it would be best for him to go in-depth with a handful of games during his developer’s roundtable and that’s what he’s going to do later today…Again, we’re always trying to surprise you. So we’ll see.” – Reggie Fils-Aime

Nintendo began this console generation with the Wiimote, the first controller to feature heavy motion controls for a console. But yesterday, Microsoft showed that they will eventually launch Project Natal, which, naturally has been receiving comparisons to the Wii remote. So what is Nintendo’s stance on Natal? Reggie Fils-Aime explains:

“It’s interesting. You could make the argument that the health genre, like Wii Fit, is becoming red ocean — there’s a lot of different content coming out. You could say that in the future, that potentially active playing might be a red ocean in the future depending on what happens with our two competitors. For us, we’re making precision control a reality today. What we’re showing with Wii Sports Resort really takes the way you handle the controller to a whole new level. So for us, we’re focused on the reality of today of how to drive that in an important way within gaming. We’ll let our competitors talk about what might or might not be in the future.”
