“Installing” the Mario Kart 7 patch is really one of the easiest things you can do on the 3DS. Some would argue that an automatic or in-game update would be more beneficial, but there aren’t any issues on downloading a small patch from the eShop.

A US patent filed by Nintendo in December 2011 and granted just recently could suggest a change is on the way for the 3DS’ Circle Pad. The filing specifically pertains to the “ornament design for an operating knob for portable electronic computer”.

As shown in the image above, the patent seems to imply Nintendo could be interested in implementing an analog stick design similar to what can be found on a GameCube controller.

We’ve seen filings come and go plenty of times before without any action, so it’s unclear if Nintendo plans on taking advantage of the patent in the future.

THQ has started a countdown for Metro: Last Light, which is teasing a live-action video of some sorts. The company likely wants to bring some hype to the game as E3 2012 approaches.

The countdown expires in nine days. You can keep track of it here.

EA’s popular soccer IP is coming to Wii U. Eurogamer states that FIFA 13 for Nintendo’s upcoming console is being made by a separate team, adding “how exactly it’ll differ from the mainline version remains a mystery.”

I assume we’ll hear more during E3 2012 next month.
