Wii can produce “great visuals” according to House of the Dead: Overkill lead artist

“The Wii is perfectly capable of generating great visuals. I think we’ll be able to show what the hardware can do for a change. A lot of the games so far have been very colourful, very cutesy – I’ve felt they’ve not particularly pushed the boundaries of the hardware. I think we’ve got one of the best looking games on the Wii at the moment. I think we’ve raised the bar.” – House of the Dead: Overkill lead Artist Mark Slater
It is pretty annoying when one claims that the Wii can’t produce impressive visuals. I’m not saying that the Wii can match the PS3 and 360 in that department, though there have been a number of really strong titles visually speaking. I always use Super Mario Galaxy as an example. I can’t help it though…The game truly looks gorgeous.
Nintendo’s biggest success and failure with the Wii

I think what we’re all most proud of is the fact that there are now literally millions of people in the United States alone who can say that Wii is the first video game system they’ve ever played. So many new people have become gamers, and it’s great to hear and read their stories about playing with their friends and family. Wii also gave people a completely new way to play. Even longtime gamers like you have seen your old genres and franchises get a new burst of creativity through motion controls. Maybe you’ve become interested in new kinds of games, and now you have all these new people to play with. Your experiences have influenced people you know, and that expands the universe of gamers too. I’m curious to know if you agree, so feel free to post a comment about this.
As for the second part of your question, it’s always easy to look back and second-guess. Of course we wish we could have had more systems to sell during the past two years. On that note, I can’t say ‘thank you’ enough to all the consumers who kept at it and never gave up trying to find one. We hope they all agree that fun is their reward!” – Denise Kaigler, NOA’s vice president of corporate affairs
