Nintendo: There will be games for the hardcore in 2009

“Well, certainly, I feel there are titles that should make that group [hardcore crowd] stand up and pay attention next year. If you look at something like ‘The Conduit,’ that’s really pushing the edge of graphic capabilities on the Wii and doing things that people didn’t think were possible. And I think, one, that makes other developers stand up and take notice. And two, that makes consumers say, “Huh. Maybe there’s something to this.” Or if you look at ‘Mad World’ [you can see] just the sheer creativity of that graphic style and the impact of the black and the white and the red. I think that next year you’re going to see the tide turn a little bit, in terms of people realizing that the Wii can have something of interest for everybody. I would assume that a title like ‘Sin & Punishment’ — and bringing that [intellectual property] to the U.S. for the first time — would start to get at that action-seeking, thrill-seeking need that that audience has. “Punch-Out,” while it may be more of a Nintendo fanboy [kind of game], still, I think, gets at that need for action.” – Cammie Dunaway, executive v.p. of sales and marketing, Nintendo of America
Cammie definitely has a point here. The Conduit, MadWorld, Sin and Punishment 2, and Punch-Out all have the possibility of appealing to the hardcore audience. Plus, for the most part, we don’t even know what lies in the pipeline for the second-half of 2009.

Activision explains why Wii will miss out on some DLC
Posted on 16 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii | 0 comments
Due to technical or licensing restrictions, the DLC offerings will not be the same for every console platform. For example, certain artists prefer to keep the integrity of the track pack rather than releasing singles and the Wii’s infrastructure only allows us the ability to release single songs as DLC. We are very excited to be the first third-party publisher to bring a library of playable DLC songs to the Nintendo Wii platform. Vicarious Visions has pioneered with Nintendo a seamless way to download, store and access songs via SD Card. The development team is committed to offering Wii fans worldwide as much variety of DLC as possible on a regular basis. – Activision statement

Posted on 16 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in DS, News | 4 Comments
This comes from the same Spanish magazine with the map information, but with more details translated by yours truly!
– Camera can swivel 360 degrees
– Trains will pass overhead in the city, cars will circle, pedestrians will be walking, etc.
– GPS seen on the touch screen while you move through the city
– PDA allows you to gain access to the map with more details as well as the goals of missions
– You can mark points that you want and the GPS will always tell you the shortest legal route to the destination with yellow or blue arrows
– New discoveries (such as gas stations) are added to the map
– Top screen brings you all the action, while the lower screen will let you control elements like the PDA, GPS, the radio, access to the people on the map, or using Motolov cocktails and grenades.
– Drugs have a big importance in the game
– Drug system can be compared to Drugwars
– You have to control the stock of drugs, buy them in one neighborhood and sell them in another – Good way to make money in the game
– You are given a map so that you know what people demand and at what prices
– Like other GTA games, in Chinatown Wars, you can catch a taxi – whistle into the microphone so the taxi will stop

Chinatown Wars to feature almost the entire map from GTA IV
Posted on 16 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in DS, News | 3 Comments
A Spanish magazine recently got their hands on Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars for the DS and discussed map details. It looks as though the game will feature a similar map as GTA IV, though without Alderney.
“Even though many people believed that Chinatown Wars would develop only in the Chinese neighborhood the game uses nearly the whole map that appears in GTA IV. The districts that appear are: Dukes (Queens), Bohan (Bronx), Broker (Brooklyn) and Algonquin (Manhattan). The only neighborhood from GTA IV that doesn’t appear is Alderney (Jersey City).”
