(NASDAQ: ERTS), today announced plans to release the award-winning music video game Rock Band on the Wii™ home video game system from Nintendo in the U.S. and Canada on June 22, 2008 for the suggested retail price of $169.99.

Rock Band for Wii will be released as a Special Edition bundle including the software, drums, microphone and a wireless guitar. Owners of the Wii FreeLoader disc, a device that enables users to play games from other territories that are region-coded, began to panic as a few websites had claimed than a new North American Wii update affected its performance. However, contradictory reports have now began to flood in. There is reason to believe that the newest update will not affect the Wii FreeLoader in the slightest, and the whole commotion may have been caused as a result of an early April Fool’s joke.

For the past 24 hours or so, those who were able to take a look at the latest Sonic Unleashed screenshots and video began to discuss the validity of the items. The status of the game appears to be real, but specific platforms for release remain unknown. Sega Magazine claims the title will indeed release, and note that a worldwide November 2008 release is planned. Also, because the budget of the game is so large, Sega developers from Japan, America, and even Europe are all collaborating to bring the best Sonic experience possible to gamers. More information is expected to be released this May, at the SEGA Gamer’s Day event.

Brain Age 2 (DS) – $17
Flash Focus (DS) – $17
Petz Bunnyz 2 (DS) – $26
Professor Layton and the Curious Village (DS) – $26

Even though April Fool’s jokes have begun to peculate, one leak in particular actually seems to be true. The “first” images, information, and video of Sonic Unleashed have been leaked.

– gameplay includes Sonic and the Secret Rings style running with switches to 2.5D platforming thrown in
– Sonic will transform at certain points in the game, and his new form will include some sort of new mechanic
– another new character will be introduced
– Sonic Unleashed is not the final name, and no platform(s) were mentioned. File names of the original leaked images indicate a multiplatform release of 360/PS3/Wii

While the graphics shown in screenshots look suited for a 360/PS3 release, there was something called “ONM_CoverArt” (Official Nintendo Magazine) on the Sega FTP server. Because of this, it seems a bit more believable that the game could be releases on the Wii.

This leak sounds hard to believe but given all of the ample material gathered by numerous sources, it’s difficult to deny its existence. As much as I’d be interested in hearing more about this game, I would definitely wait until we hear something from Sega.
