Rumors

For the most part, it has been known (or at least assumed) that TimeGate Studios was lending a hand to Aliens: Colonial Marines’ development. The studio’s involvement appears to have been deeper than initially expected, however.

An unconfirmed forum post from a Gearbox staffer, posted last year, states that TimeGate actually handled a majority of Aliens’ creation. Gearbox was mainly relegated to the title’s multiplayer component.

The message says:

Hate to say it, but I wouldn’t get your hopes up too high for Colonial Marines. I used to work at Gearbox, and the development of that game has been a total train wreck, going on what, 6 years now? Gearbox isn’t even making the game, except for the multiplayer. Primary development was outsourced to TimeGate Studios, which has a less than stellar past.

I hope it proves me wrong, as I still have alot of friends still working at Gearbox, but I am expecting it to be average at best.

Aliens: Colonial Marines hasn’t exactly received the best reception thus far. If this information is true, it would have been interesting to see how the shooter would have turned out had Gearbox been the game’s sole developer.

The image above shows a supposed “Zmart” listing for Battlefield 4 on Wii U, as noted by the Nintendo Pe Facebook fan page. The source also mentions the store as having the Pikachu 3DS XL available for pre-order with a tentative March date. The only problem? They also list “Zelda Wii U” and “Modern Warfare 4 Wii U” as coming, despite the fact that those are clearly just placeholders.

Is this to be believed? Maybe. For now, we’ll remain skeptical. We won’t know for sure until Activision or EA say something!

Killer Croc appears to be joining Injustice: Gods Among Us’ roster. NetherRealm Studios creative director Ed Boon tweeted a screenshot featuring the character without much else:

Warner Bros. hasn’t officially confirmed Killer Croc as playable, but it looks like that’s the case. Riddler and Penguin, also shown in the photo, are likely just background NPCs, however.

Doomsday hasn’t been confirmed for Injustice: Gods Among Us… yet. An announcement could be coming in the future.

In the Injustice character battle announcement video posted today, Warner Bros. appears to have included some snippets of Doomsday in action. As shown in the pictures above, it looks like he’s facing off against The Joker.

Update: Nope. From the Activision forums:

“We are aware that some of the menu listings from the [Xbox] 360’s Revolution DLC drop are showing up in the game. This is … just a versioning problem that we are working to address.”

Like I posted about last night, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 got a brand new patch last night that supposedly brought a handful of things up to speed with the PS360 versions of the game. The reality ended up being that it broke more than it fixed, but that’s for Treyarch to deal with as time goes forward. The most interesting part of this isn’t that things broke or didn’t break: It’s that we may have seen our first glimmer of hope for the “Revolution” DLC coming to Wii U in quite some time.

When the patch was applied, players quickly noticed that leaderboards now included the DLC-only “Diner Turned” mode, and there were even a few players listed on it despite it not having come out for anything other than Xbox 360 thus far. There was also a calling card added based off of the “Peacekeeper” SMG, which is a gun only available for those that have purchased the DLC.

Wii U community manager A_Trey_U was quick to rectify the situation, however, saying it was just an accident:

“Holy things that shouldn’t have happened, Batman! This is indeed a bug, and sadly something that will likely be going away this evening.

This is by no means a confirmation of DLC. Just something that got brought over when we brought over the rest of the fixes from the other platforms. Leave it to our community to find it in the first two minutes.”

We’ll just have to wait and see what happens! Treyarch is usually under incredibly strict rules about what they can and can’t talk about during the Xbox 360’s exclusivity period with DLC, so if we hear anything it’ll likely be after February 28th when the DLC comes to PS3 and PC.

Superannuation has uncovered what appears to be a brand new IP from Ubisoft. Ubisoft Montreal, the maker of Assassin’s Creed, is apparently hard at work on “Osiris” – a new game set in Egypt. A “rough cut demo” trailer can be found here.

Does any of this look or sound familiar? It should. Just before E3 2012, trailer images from an unannounced Ubisoft title leaked out. Osiris and last year’s mysterious leak seem to be related.

Rumor has it that the studio behind the Epic Mickey games will be shut down. Roberts Space Industries, a Star Citizen crowdfunding platform, posted the update on its Twitter account today.

Once again: this is simply a rumor for now. 3D Realms’ Geroge Broussard typically is among the first to post these kinds of things, and noted on his own Twitter profile that Junction Point closing speculation has been “circulating for a while.”

Rumor has it that SEGA will be announcing a new Sonic the Hedgehog title in February, with a release planned for mid to late 2013. Sonic Stadium suggests that a teaser could be sent out during “Hedgehog Day” on February 2, a day normally used to tease fans about the Blue Blur’s future. A full reveal could then take place later in the month.

Sonic Stadium posted a number of different details about the unconfirmed project. For a summary of the report, read on below.

– Name not final
– Wii U, PS3, 360, 3DS, Vita, PC, “next-gen” console versions
– PC/Vita versions will be identical aside from visual differences
– 3DS game will be like Sonic Rush
– Console version will feature switches between full 3D movement and 2D side-scrolling sections
– Multiple routes
– Each route in a stage will lead to one of two or three exits at the end that will each take you to a different stage
– You will always end up at the same final stage
– Final stage count hasn’t been decided, but devs will add at least 20 different ones, not including boss battles
– Begin the game with Sonic and unlock other characters by completing stages
– Doesn’t mean 20+ characters will be playable
– Each character has his/her own skills to help them progress in stages easier where others will have more difficulty or simply cannot ala Sonic 3 & Knuckles and the Sonic Advance series
– Ex: Sonic and Shadow can’t make it up a wall, but Tails can easily fly up there or Knuckles can climb, allowing them access to an exit Sonic and Shadow can’t reach
– Stages can be replayed with any character of your choice
– 3DS version “similar in idea, but smaller in scope”
– Developers are trying to fit all of the characters into the game, but it will feature far fewer stages
– There will still be many paths through stages, but it looks like every stage will only ever branch off into 2 stages
– SEGA has its best developers working on the games
– Game has been in the works since before Sonic Generations
– Out this fall/autumn or winter at the latest

In addition to games, tomorrow’s Nintendo Direct will focus on new services for Wii U. Might the console’s upcoming Virtual Console be shown?

The source code of Nintendo UK website references the Wii U VC. Its inclusion is notable as the code was updated with the VC bit less than two weeks ago.

Of course, this could mean nothing at all. The Wii U VC is coming – it’s just a matter of when Nintendo will have some news to share about the service.

A fan-driven Pokemon event was recently held in Chile, and it featured a somewhat out-of-the-blue Nintendo announcement.

The special Pikachu 3DS XL, previously released in Japan and Europe, was also confirmed for the Chile. This news may have implications for North America since Chile uses the same 3DS system as the US.

Does this mean Nintendo of America will be announcing the Pikachu 3DS XL for the states soon? We can only hope!
