Rumors

The information below supposedly comes from a GameStop employee…

“The computers for Gamestop have added the Nintendo 3DS in the system now, along with 18 games and 14 acessories listed as available for taking pre-orders on Sept 29th. They also have a listed a shipping date of Nov 22nd. (Since postal services are out on weekends, the Nov 20/2010 Sat is the most logical release date, as the orders would be delivered on Monday the 22nd)”

There’s no question that a release in late November is a possible time frame for launch… But I just have trouble believing a story like this – especially since we don’t even know if this person is truly a GameStop employee. I’m glad this will all be cleared up in a little less than two weeks.

In a little over two weeks, we will know how much the 3DS will cost and when it’ll go on sale in Japan. But until then, it’s a given that we’ll see different speculation about those two desired details. Today, there is a rumor going around that the upcoming handheld will hit Japanese retailers on November 20. That claim comes from a Keys Factory designer, a company well-known for making different Nintendo accessories, including add-ons for the DSi LL. The designer tweeted the following:

“On November 20th, the 11 goods I designed for use with the 3DS will go on sale simultaneously. Those of you buying the 3DS, please buy them while you’re at it! This will be officially announced on the homepage eventually, lol. Best regards.”

At this point, the November 20 release date is certainly possible. Back in 2004, Nintendo revealed in September that the handheld would be out in early December. The only difference here is that the company would be planning a late November launch for the 3DS in Japan. At least we won’t have to wait too much longer to find out if this rumor is valid!

In Nintendo Power’s big blowout of Epic Mickey this month, the magazine made note of one particular collectible, a film reel. The item remained a mystery, though, as Warren Spector wasn’t ready to talk about it at the time. The film reel actually popped up again at PAX over the weekend, and while we’re still not completely certain what it is, we may be one step closer to finding out.

During the game’s latest demonstration, a film reel called “Mickey and the Beanstalk” was obtained. A journalist asked, “Would Epic Mickey feature classic Mickey cartoons as unlockables for a younger audience that might not have experienced them before?” Warren Spector blushed, quickly shying away from the question, and only said something to the effect that it would be a great idea.

So, again, that by no means confirms anything. Still, Spector’s reaction does sort of imply that there could be something going on with classic cartoons in the game.

– It will be a week long conference (press won’t be at the event for the whole week)
– Will be at the NOA headquarters
– Important executives to attend

This is interesting, isn’t it? A rumor about a rumor! In any case, you should, of course, keep the hype meter low until we receive a confirmation that the conference is actually happening. Hopefully we’ll receive some concrete news soon.

This information comes from a recent GameSpot news article…

“Nintendo has confirmed to Bloomberg Japan that the 3DS is coming out in the island nation this quarter and that pricing and an exact release date will be revealed on September 29. Nintendo had previously announced that the handheld would be out in America some time in 2011 after confirming at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo it would be out this fiscal year. No dates for other regions have been confirmed.”

Nintendo has confirmed that an event will be taking place on September 29, but I highly doubt that they’d say that the 3DS is going to launch in Japan this quarter. In any case, we’ll see what happens in about two months.

Earlier today, Activision announced James Bond 007: Blood Stone for the PS3, Xbox 360, PC, and even the DS. Yet there was no mention of Nintendo’s console at all. So it’s a bit odd that an image of what appears to be the Wii boxart was found on the 007.com website. This could be nothing more than an error, though then again, it could also mean that a Wii version is in the works. Nothing has been confirmed or denied at this time, but we’ll let you know about any future developments.

Once touted as a Wii-exclusive, NBA Jam will now apparently will be released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, too. Well, that’s if the latest USK ratings from Germany are to be believed. Nothing is confirmed at the moment, though there have been a few signs pointing to HD versions of the game, such as a listing found on a developer’s LinkedIn profile a few months back.

Interestingly, Reggie Fils-Aime stated during Nintendo’s E3 press conference that NBA Jam for Wii is an “exclusive version.” Does this mean that the Wii title will offer content not seen on the PS3/360? Hopefully EA will clear things up sometime soon!

Here’s the next shot fired from the rumor gun: Play.com is reporting that a certain title (namely the 3DS DragonBall game) will release this November, specifically on the 19th. It is safe to assume that if a 3DS game is out, the system is already out as well in most cases. What is odd about this is that the site also has a listing for the Gundam 3DS game for a March 25, 2011 release date, which means we have two oddly specific release dates for some relatively obscure games. Chances are we’ll never really know the release date until Nintendo announces it themselves, but it’s fun to speculate!

A few days ago, Capcom’s Yoshinori Ono teased a new project on his Twitter account. Ono only stated that Super Street Fighter IV “is nothing compared to what’s coming.” While it still isn’t entirely clear which title he was referring to, there is a small sign that it could be a new Darkstalkers title.

Last Monday, Ono noted that he had a proposal to give to Keiji Inafune. He said that his presentation was a success a day later. When a fan asked if he could make a Darkstalkers/Vapre game, Ono said, “I’m left speechless yet….. Shhhh.”

There have been a number of different indications recently that Ono would love to make a new Darkstalkers title. Since there seems to be huge interest there, it seems more than possible that an announcement will be made sometime in the near future.
