Site updates

So… This is going to be a pretty big week for gaming, and Nintendo fans in particular. In case you are unaware of any of the events that will be taking place over the next few days, this rundown might come in handy:

Square Enix 1st Production Dept. Premier

What is it?

Square Enix’s conference to announce new games, and reveal information and trailers for previously announced projects. The event won’t just be for Nintendo systems, but Kingdom Hearts 3D is expected to be there. There could be additional surprises for the 3DS as well. All non-Nintendo news will be posted on Gaming Everything.

Coverage

I haven’t decided quite yet! The event is taking place at an awful time – 4 AM EST tomorrow morning (Tuesday). So, do I stay up until then? It won’t end until 5 AM EST at the earliest, and then there’s a stream at 6 AM. I’ll try to figure something out, though…

Update: Game Night is now over!

Time: 7PM EST, 4PM PST
Game: Black Ops and/or Goldeneye 007
System: Wii

The IRC will be put up at… I dunno, probably right around 7PM EST. Even if you don’t have an account on the site/forum, there’s no need to register to play game night with us! Stop by, jump in, and let’s have a good time.

To note, the first 4 people in the IRC get dibs to play Nazi Zombies. 😉

While the 3DS news explosion is behind us (until January 19, that is), Nintendo World 2011 isn’t over yet. More presentations are lined up for this evening. The Mii/AR Games event will be taking place once again at 9 PM EST, as will Nintendo Music Live at 10:30 PM EST. Two new presentations are also scheduled: Super Street Fighter IV at 11:45 PM EST and Resident Evil at 1 AM. I’ll post the stream later tonight, and I’ll make sure to cover any news from the presentations.

Hey folks – wanted to take a second to remind everything that Nintendo World 2011 will officially begin later this evening. Although most information about the 3DS will likely come from the January 19 event, there will be a number of stage presentations for upcoming titles and off-screen demo footage. We also heard rumblings earlier today that Nintendo will share more details on the Japanese launch lineup. In any case, make sure you stop by the site at 8 PM EST. I’m not sure if any news will be available immediately, but I’ll be here just in case!

From this point on, you should be able to once again access our RSS feed. I’ve checked with a number of different validators that there are no longer any errors in the code. However, please make sure that you access the correct URL. You can find the link right here. If any of you guys encounter additional problems, please let us know!

Update: The presentation has ended.

Iit’ll be difficult to understand much of this presentation unless you know Japanese. I’ll be around to cover this event, though. I haven’t decided how I’ll be handling news on the site just yet (I may just do one post will most updates and separate updates if very important information arrives), but expect news in about a half hour!

You know, I’m incredibly relieved right now. It’s been a tough past few months for me (I won’t bore you with the details), but I’m finally going to have some time to fully devote myself to the sites and complete some much needed maintenance. Something has mysteriously gone wrong with our Twitter posts, and our RSS feed has been experiencing some issues. So I’m going to try and get to the bottom of those problems and with any luck, I’ll have them fixed soon.

Also, I wanted to make sure you guys were aware of our new screenshot galleries. Quite a few of you weren’t happy with the way they worked in the past, though I’d say the galleries we’re using now are much more user-friendly. No longer will you be forced to click an image twice to see it in a larger size. As soon as you view a screenshot, you’ll see a fairly large version of the picture, and you’ll be able to quickly cycle through the rest of the images in the gallery. I’ve made a few other changes recently, such as the default avatar displayed in the comments section. There’s still much to be done, though.

Before I end this post, I wanted to make sure I wish everyone Happy Holidays! Hopefully most of you will be reading this message late in the afternoon tomorrow… if you celebrate Christmas, of course. Spend some time with your lovely families, and open those presents! And now that I think about it, New Year’s Eve is just around the corner…

I have a feeling that things will be very quiet on the news front over the next week and as we head into 2011, but I’ll be here to cover anything significant Nintendo updates that I come across.

Austin chimes in:

First off, happy holidays to all of you! I’m personally a Christmas celebrator, so it’s the eve of the holiday for me, and I’ve got some bad news: Despite spending hours and hours today trying to make it work, I can’t get a video feature done and of good quality.

It’s not for lack of trying, I promise! Truly, I must’ve filmed 10 different features today, but each one had something very wrong. The first few had major sound issues, some had crazy lighting issues, and the quality of the footage on them is just horrible. The content is good and it’s there, I just am having a ton of trouble working with this new webcam I got. I’ll post up the crappy-quality one tomorrow, but it’s gotten far too late now and iMovie has insisted on crashing on me multiple times. 😛

Many apologies on my end; I’m working hard to make things work in terms of hardware.

Update: Game Night is now over!

Goodness gracious, I have had a busy day! From getting stranded outside in the cold to missing 4 buses in a row to get home and breaking all the zippers on my laptop bag! I think the one thing I need right now is to sit down on a comfy couch and play some video games with you cool cats. That’s why we have game night, right?

Game(s): Call of Duty: Black Ops (Wii), possibly some Mario Kart or another game if you don’t have Black Ops.
Time: 7PM EST, 4PM PST (about 1 hour from when this is posted)

If you’re going to play, it’d be super helpful if you could post your codes here instead of in the IRC, but don’t sweat it if you can’t do it until later. Thanks a bunch, guys!

~Austin

Austin and I have been very busy the past few weeks, so Game Night has been on a short hiatus. But if you watched Austin’s latest video which was posted on the site yesterday, you would have discovered that Game Night will be returning tomorrow! While nothing is set in stone just yet, it looks like we’ll be playing a bit of Call of Duty: Black Ops. If you have a different game to suggest, I’m sure Austin would be willing to listen as long as we have enough people to play the title you request! Anyway, make sure you stop by the site at 7 PM EST!
