We’re back!

Posted on 15 years ago by (@NE_Brian) in Site updates | 1 Comment

Have I ever told you guys how much I hate site downtime? Yeah…It’s not fun. The site went down a few hours ago because one of our host’s power breaker went out. 30 machines went offline, which impacted the website. We’re back now though!

Hey folks,

Just thought I’d give you all a heads up about our GDC coverage for tomorrow. I will not be attending Satoru Iwata’s keynote event, but I promise to keep the site up to date throughout the day with GDC news. Basically, expect a similar format to last year’s E3 and October conference. For those who are unaware, Mr. Iwata’s keynote is expected to start at 9 AM PST and last for about an hour. Again, as soon as any news trickles in, I will post information on the site immediately.

This GDC seems to be a bit more interesting than in years past – Hopefully Nintendo will not disappoint! Is anyone looking forward to anything in particular?

Contest winner

Posted on 15 years ago by (@NE_Brian) in Site updates | 11 Comments

I promised that I would announce the winner of our free VC/WiiWare contest this weekend, and the winner’s name is below. Before revealing the winner, however, I do want to send out a huge “thank you” for everyone who has posted a comment over the last few weeks. I realize that I’ve said this quite a lot as of late, but I believe that just one comment can go a long way towards building a community and leading to Nintendo Everything’s growth. I honestly appreciate every single comment that has contributed to the site.

Now as far as the contest goes, for those who did not win, please do not feel discouraged. I plan on hosting more contests on the site, so know that you may have a chance to win something in the future! I think I better post the winner now before I ramble on too long…

Stupid host!

Well…That was annoying. Site was down for a half hour or so. It wasn’t a problem with us directly…It was actually our host that was having issues (surprise!). Everything’s fine though – nothing was lost, and I’m not expecting any more trouble again. Apologies for the short downtime!

It’s been two weeks since I posted the news letting you all know about the contest we’d be hosting and now it has come to a close. The winner will most likely be posted next weekend – I need some time to look over all of the comments that were posted and count up the scores.

I want to give a huge “thank you” to all of you though. Moreover, I must say that I am greatly appreciative to those who posted a comment over the past two weeks, including those who weren’t participating in the contest and simply felt like adding to the discussions. I do hope that this continues in the future and I also hope that more of you guys can join in, as I’ve definitely felt as though the site was very lively over the past few weeks. A comment here and there from anyone can go a long way, even if it’s not for every news post or update!

Note: Contest has now officially started.

We haven’t had a contest in awhile, so I thought it was about time to start a new one! Before I get into the guidelines and details, I want to make a note that these contests will occur more often. They might have different rules and set ups to them, but I’m going to try to make it a more regular occurrence to make contests more frequent (but they won’t be every two weeks!)

The premise of this contest is simple. I’ve been noticing lately that a few people have commented on the news posts/articles that have been posted, which is definitely something that I’m happy with. At the same time, I would really love to see more comments so that, with any luck, a community of sorts can born. I do feel that a community aspect for Nintendo Everything could be very important and who knows – It’s more than possible that you guys can get into some nice discussions.

Now, here’s what I have in mind…

– This contest will begin today (3/1) and will end in two weeks (3/15).
– The winner with the most comments by the end of the contest will win a free WiiWare or Virtual Console game of their choice on the Wii
– The type of comment isn’t entirely important as long as it’s not something blatant to rack up your comments total for the contest
– A winner will be randomly selected if there happens to be a tie in comments total
– Unfortunately, this contest is only open to those who United States Wii systems – or to those who can temporarily change their Country setting to the United States (due to restrictions of sending titles)

Those are the only rules that I can think of at this point. Granted that this is an entire bust (which is possible), I’ll simply have to think of a different type of contest. I really do apologize for those who cannot participate in the contest but in the future, perhaps there can be other prizes that can be considered so that all readers can participate. I still encourage anyone and everyone to comment, even for those who will not be able to join in on the contest.

From the day that Nintendo Everything opened its doors, I have (more or less) written all of the content that you can read on the site. Sure, I have received a bit of help along the way, but the assistance has never been constant. Taking care of the site is definitely a lot of work, and it isn’t always easy to balance it with other things that I need to take care of that aren’t related to NE. I’ve always been able to post news, but I can’t deny that our reviews are articles sections of the website have suffered.

So when I received an offer for help, there was no way I could deny any additional content that could be beneficial to the site. And with that, Nintendo Everything would like to welcome a new reviewer, Austin, to the editorial team. In the future though, chances are that Austin may not only provide the site with just reviews, but also with general articles and possibly news posts in the future. So basically, this is a win-win situation not only for the website, but for you guys – the readers – as well!

Austin’s first review will be going up later today.

We’ve had a fun couple of weeks haven’t we?! The site experienced some unexpected downtime over the past hour or so. Unsurprisingly, the issue was caused due to our host. In the future, we will hopefully be able to avoid any downtime thanks to something that our tech guy is implementing. He is also thinking about changing our host.

Anyways, I’d like to apologize one more time that the site was down. Believe me – It really does bother me when I see that NE is down, even for a minute!

A few small changes

Posted on 15 years ago by (@NE_Brian) in Site updates | 1 Comment

While our tech guy was making the site ever faster about a day or so ago, I’ve begun doing a bit of a cleanup of my own. First, I’ve taken down a few pages that I believe no longer have any use – The “Help” and “OWN” pages.

I’ve also added in the Polls Archive, which has been changed from the “vs. Feature” page. Now everyone can take a look at all of NE’s past polls. The vs. Feature was just too pointless to have up there by itself.

Last but not least, we now have our own video player. It’s nothing fancy, but you’ll be able to watch high-quality videos (in some cases) right on NE. We’ll be hosting the video files by ourselves too, so no need to rely on YouTube on anymore (though keep in mind YouTube and other video players may be included on NE…Any special/important video will definitely be posted with our own video player – Sorry if that sounded confusing!)

Just thought I should tell you all that some site maintenance is being done right now. Basically, one of our tech guys is trying to make the site faster (as if it wasn’t fast already!) and fix up a few things. Bare with us while he works on the site. Thanks folks!
