Latest Pokémon Video Games for Hand-Held Nintendo DS Systems Debut Never-Before-Seen Pokémon, New Ways to Connect with Friends and Enhanced Battles

REDMOND, Wash., March 7, 2011 – The vast, wildly imaginative world of Pokémon™ just got bigger and more immersive than ever before. The new Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version video games for the Nintendo DS™ family of systems are now available in stores across the United States, inviting players of any age or experience level to discover more than 150 new Pokémon to catch, train and battle, as well as new battle systems, new wireless features and a new world to explore. For longtime Pokémon fans, the games offer a rich and expansive new chapter in the popular series. For newcomers, they provide a fresh and exciting entry point to one of the best-selling video game series of all time.

Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version transport players to the never-before-seen Unova region, a place unlike any other. Until the main story of the game is complete, every Pokémon that players encounter – more than 150 in total – will have never been seen before in previous Pokémon video games.

This week’s new downloadable games for Nintendo systems invite you to “have a blast” in more ways than one. Heavy Fire: Black Arms for the WiiWare™ service puts players at the center of an explosive, action-filled adventure as they take on the role of a Special Forces recruit. On the Virtual Console™ service, Bomberman Hero lets Wii™ owners enjoy classic and combustible fun from the Nintendo 64™ era. New arrivals for the Nintendo DSiWare™ service include GO Series EARTH SAVER, which challenges players to blast apart a deadly meteorite that threatens all of humanity. And if your taste runs beyond pyrotechnics, you’ll also find soccer, gymnastics and squishy driving action in this week’s lively mix of downloads.

I hope you guys like playing your games on handhelds, because this month is full of games to play on the go. As well as a string of promising Nintendo DS games, March sees the release of the new Nintendo 3DS console, a portable powerhouse with more launch games than I have time to write about. So hopefully you weren’t looking forward to reading about those any time soon.

Charlie Scibetta, Nintendo’s senior director of corporate communication, was recently asked if we’ll be seeing 3DSWare eventually . Unfortunately, he didn’t have much to say about adding such a service to the eShop.

“We have Virtual Console games. Anything that’s rendered in 3D, converted into 3D, is called 3D Classics, but we don’t have any other terminology yet.”

Scibetta also commented on bringing over DSiWare games to your 3DS…

“It’s not the number of transferred games — it would be the same game, the number of times you could transfer it from device to device. So if you build up a large category of DSiWare games, you won’t be penalized. Just how many times you can move that same group of games, there’ll be a limit on.”

Scibetta said that most of the games that can be downloaded on the DSi will be placed on the eShop as well. However, a few games will not be available.
