Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag multiplayer details
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii U | 0 comments
Ubisoft has finally started to give an extended look at Assassin’s Creed IV’s multiplayer elements. Just recently, the publisher held an event, which allowed members of the press to see multiplayer in action. You can find details rounded up from a VG247 report below.
– New dimension to co-op, a system for creating your own multiplayer modes called Gamelab
– Interface has been revamped to better allow in-game comms
– Over 100 staffers working on multiplayer
– Ubisoft Annecy, Bucharest, Shanghai and Kiev are all involved
– Annecy believes Wolfpack co-op upgrade is a “big step”
– Discovery mode: “linear experience” with a “story wrapper” to ease people into co-op rather than a straight training mode
– Tutorial system was wanted when Annecy saw Wolfpack was attracting people over to online play who weren’t interested in versus modes, but the introductory elements were somewhat lacking
– Discovery supports up to four players
– Work as a team to complete missions that rise in difficulty
– This helps you accrue more time, bonuses, etc.
– Unleashed: attain as high a sequence as possible by lining up multi-kills and synched kills, defending chests, eliminating disguised enemies, beating infected opponents, etc.
– Gamelab: set up multiplayer as you please
– This has over 200 customizable elements
– Team wanted to give more power to the community, please them, make them happy
– Begin with a template based on existing modes before altering what you like
– “Pistolier” mode: kill only with pistol shots, and all melee murdering has been switched off; alters deathmatch-style play completely since you must target from afar
– Share Gamelab modes with friends, favorite them, upload them to the community, get promoted by Ubisoft
– Saba Island: a pirate hideout map
– Santa Lucian: fishing village and Portobello, a “really nice place occupied by pirates”
– Frantic Gamelab mode: turns all scoring off, awarding a single point for each kill

The Wonderful 101 – blog post 2 now live
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii U | 0 comments
Platinum Games has updated its Wonderful 101 blog with a second post. You can find it here. Today’s post covers the story and a bit of the Wii U game’s battle system.
Asda is no longer stocking consoles, games, and accessories. Pikmin 3, for instance, was not available through the UK retailer. Only eight products – made available for the Wii U launch – are present on the Asda Direct website.
Asda said in a statement:
“Asda continues to offer customers a selection of Wii U games and accessories through Asda Direct, but these ranges are currently not on offer in Asda shops.”
Nintendo has also commented on the situation, but has not explained why the company’s relationship with Asda has seemingly grown sour:
“Nintendo UK does not comment on specific business practices with individual retailers. However, as we have seen with Nintendo 3DS, software sells hardware, and with titles such as Wonderful 101, Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD and Super Mario 3D World already announced for this year as well as the recently released Pikmin 3 and New Super Luigi U having reached number 2 and number 6 in this week’s chart respectively, we are looking forward to the year ahead on Wii U.”

Disney Infinity intended to act as replacement for licensed games
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii, Wii U | 1 Comment
Licensed games often tend to bomb from a critical standpoint, nor are they system sellers. So it makes quite a bit of sense for Disney to take a step back from this market and instead use the upcoming Disney Infinity title to promote new films.
You may have noticed that new releases such as Monsters University and The Lone Ranger did not receive their own video games. Instead, they’re getting their own Play Sets in Disney Infinity. We’ll likely be seeing similar promotion for future films, according to producer John Day.
Day told MCV:
“They serve as a perfectly adequate replacement for a standalone licensed product. We already use Infinity to support films and even events at the theme parks. That is part of Infinity’s purpose. The value there is really high and I’m prepared to stand behind any of those as excellent games by themselves.”
