Rumors

Activision released Call of Duty: Black Ops II this year. That means in 2013, we should be returning to the “Modern Warfare” sub-series.

Siliconera is reporting that voicework is already being recorded for upcoming game in Los Angeles. It’s rumored to be featuring a main character – codenamed “Ben Burke” – who is “a battle hardened veteran in his mid-thirties with a nihilistic point of view.”

Ben Burke will allegedly recite the following lines in the Modern Warfare release:

“Reminds you of Phuket, doesn’t it? Only this time the dust gives you cancer… OK, park yourself and get ready. When this thing kicks off, put a hole in anything that moves.”

“This is Sentinel Zero One, successful crypto change on C2 net break, requesting immediate update of blue force picture and status of artillery, over. I have you broken and unreadable, I say again, requesting updates to friendly positions and status of arty support. Do you read, over?”

“We’ve got KVA on the move! They’re going to strongpoint the main gate, ETA two mikes! We’re providing support for our heavy rollers! Ready up and let’s move!”

“Goliath, this is Sentinel Zero One! We have enemy armor at the gate, hundred meters north of our position! Requesting close-air grid mark three-one-six!”

Siliconera also writes that there will be a scene in the game with John “Soap” MacTavish, taking place in Somalia. It will play out as a flashback.

Likelihood? Very likely.

It seems likely in and of itself, but the first unofficial confirmation that the Wii U version of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will support downloadable content is coming from a Youtube user who claims to have gotten a copy of the game early. Sure, he’s unable to play it, but he says that the back of the box notes support for “add-on content”, as well as leaderboards, voice chat, and online multiplayer.

One thing is doesn’t support, once again according to this Youtuber, is the bonus map “Nuketown 2025”, which PS360/PC users get if they buy the game on day one. At least, it doesn’t make mention of it on the box.

I’m not so sure either of these would be a shock to anyone– in fact I think we’d be more surprised at a lack thereof with DLC– but it’s nice to have SOME sort of confirmation.

In other news, that Wii U box looks nice. I love the blue. :9

There will be some sort of DLC in New Super Mario Bros. U, it seems. Under ‘Nintendo Network’ features, downloadable content is listed (presumably on the boxart).

We’re not entirely clear what’s being referred to here. Is this free content? Paid content?

If it’s the latter, NSMBU wouldn’t be the first Mario game to receive DLC. New Super Mario Bros. 2 has already churned out a few extra levels that users can pay for.

Ubisoft wrapped up development on the 3DS version of Rayman Origins a long time ago. The game shipped in Europe several months ago. Oddly enough, it still hasn’t shipped in North America.

That may be changing this week. The 3DS eShop is listing a November 6 release date for the game, and the demo has even returned to the digital store. We’ll know if this is accurate in a few days.

While I wouldn’t be at all surprised, an Ubisoft product manager seems to have revealed that the Gamepad can output in 3D. At an AC3 press event, they said that Assassin’s Creed III would support the functionality on both the television screen (if you have a 3D TV) and the Gamepad screen, making for a “dual-screen” 3D experience.

Of course, we’ve heard no comment on the matter since then from either Ubisoft or Nintendo, but given that the console itself supports the feature on the television, one would assume that it also supports it on the Gamepad. We can hope.

“Families and friends can experience Mario together like never before with Miiverse. See other players’ comments and accomplishments while you play, and leave your own feedback for others to see when connected to the Nintendo Network.”

Hmm… I’m not quite sure what to make of this honestly! It’s not capitalized so I’m not sure I’d put TOO much clout in it, but on the other hand, what else could “viewing accomplishments” mean? There must be SOME list of things people have achieved, whether it be in the form of generalities (Austin beat GAME X and GAME Y) or specifics with points like a Gamerscore. Either way, we should find out soon via that Miiverse-centric Nintendo Direct!

Hmm… What to make of this…

We haven’t heard anything about a Wii U version of Ubisoft’s upcoming Splinter Cell: Blacklist, but I guess it’s certainly possible. The game isn’t coming out until next spring either way, so we probably have a ways to wait before we know for sure what the deal is.

On another note, that image sure does remind me of how many great games the Wii U is getting at launch!

At this point, I have no idea what’s going on with Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed’s release date on consoles.

Amazon pushed the game back to December 11 on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii U – that’s the same date as the 3DS and Vita versions. But Sumo Digital, Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed’s developer, said this was just an error on the retailer’s part.

Now SEGA’s customer support is offering up a contradicting message, suggesting that the title really has been delayed.

A message sent to us from reader Lars Havnes reads:

“It was not a screwup on Amazon’s part. As much as we want to release the game, we also want to ensure that it is not rushed and is released in the best possible state. While waiting for an extra month seems unfair, it is only being done in the best interest of those who are purchasing the game.”

And so we’re back to ground zero. Care to clarify the situation for us, SEGA?

There is some concern that SEGA could be delaying Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed.

The console version was scheduled for mid November in North America. Now, just like the handheld editions, Amazon is listing Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii U games for December 11. Consumers are also receiving emails from the retailer that Sonic’s new racer is expected to ship in December rather than November.

I imagine there are two main possibilities here: either Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed really will be delayed, or Amazon has no idea what it’s talking about.

Thanks to Lars Havnes for the tip.

CVG, which claims to have been in contact with a host of different sources, is writing that Nintendo may not have enough stock of Wii U units in the UK to meet demand from pre-orders.

The company will allegedly have only 25,000 units available at launch. One retail source said that the figure was “in line with our estimates”.

But not so fast. A third source at a separate UK retail chain said that shipment expectations were at “anything between 75,000 and 100,000 units during the launch period”.

“What we don’t know is whether this allocation will arrive on day one or be distributed across a number of weeks.”
