Wii U eShop

Several years ago, Eternity’s Child was planned for WiiWare. Mecho Wars was also set for a release on the downloadable service. Unfortunately, neither game ended up on the Wii Shop Channel.

What happened to both games? Luc Bernard gave a quick explanation to Nintendo Life:

They never saw the light of day, sadly. In the case of Eternity’s Child, WiiWare publisher Alten8 never finished porting it. Mecho Wars ran on Wii, but WiiWare was simply not profitable enough to make it worth releasing — that’s why it ended up on the PSP and PS3 instead.

It’s been several years since the Eternity’s Child saga. Bernard’s latest game, The Only Escape, may now have a shot at launching on Wii U. According to Bernard, he’d like to make this a reality if his new Indiegogo campaign reaches its funding goal. Support for the 3DS, on the other hand, is probably out of the question.

As I said, I would like to do a Wii U version of Imagination Is The Only Escape if we manage to meet our funding goal, since it would be a perfect fit for the console. As for the 3DS, sadly I don’t think any game I make can run on it. You may think that sounds silly, but games with huge 2D textures take up a lot of memory and then to port it to a platform like the 3DS takes time. If a publisher wanted to port one of my games to the 3DS I would of course say yes, but I certainly couldn’t do it alone.

Details on A World of Keflings have emerged thanks to a new playable demo at PAX Prime 2013. You can read up on a batch of information below.

– Originally released on Xbox Live Arcade
– Demo has players helping out small creatures known as Keflings
– Need to help build a kingdom and society
– Start out by walking around a frozen tundra area, collecting objects like wood and ice, and bringing it to a workshop
– Create various components of buildings such as floors, doors, etc.
– Get the needed blueprints and start constructing various buildings with the components
– Doing so allows the kingdom to grow in population and efficiency
– Keflings can work on things such as harvesting wood and ice while you focus on other tasks
– Play as your Mii
– GamePad used for gameplay
– Use the controller to order the components of buildings to be made without needing to travel to the workshop
– GamePad also used as an overhead map
– This lets you keep track of what your citizens are currently up to, and what needs attention

Mighty No. 9 is intended to mix old classic and renewed gameplay elements. Hitting this balance “is the true innovation of this game,” according to Keiji Inafune.

Inafune told Joystiq:

“Finding that balance is the true innovation of this game, I think – what makes it original. If you are just making an old classic style game, the formula is already set pretty much in stone and you don’t need designers to try and come up with anything new; you can just imitate one hundred percent the classics. However, if you make something that’s too new and doesn’t have enough of the old, obviously the people who want to play these classic games are going to feel left out – some of those are the key fans who have supported us on Kickstarter.” For Inafune, Kickstarter is what will drive this balance between old and new, since backers can directly engage with the creators and proclaim what they want from Mighty No. 9.

Mega Man games have typically provided a good amount of challenge. And so you may be wondering: will Mighty No. 9, the next title from creator Keiji Inafune, offer a similar level of difficulty?

“It will be challenging, as far as the old games were, but it will be fair and have some of the newer, modern game mechanics that allow people to – even if they die – continue to restart and basically rely on their skill and not have to backtrack and do annoying things over and over and over again. But again, this is something that, with game balance, you have to continually tweak and tweak and tweak. And with Kickstarter, we’ll be able to be tied into our fans and they’ll help us tweak it with what’s the perfect balance.”

Tangram Style developer Moving Player has confirmed four titles for the eShop as part of its 2013 lineup. Two games are scheduled for Wii U while another two are heading to the 3DS.

Below is Moving Player’s lineup in full:

– HAPPY CIRCUS, an educational game to learn to count and read in six different languages in a fun environment, available in the upcoming weeks for Nintendo 3DS.
– EVOFISH Wii U, the console version of the iOS and Android game, upgraded with a new way to play in solo and an asynchronous multiplayer mode where up to 5 players compete in a predator/prey challenge!
– COCORO LINE DEFENDER, a strategy game in a fantasy Japan, theater of a fight between the 4 elements. This title will also be available for download on Nintendo 3DS in fall 2013.
– TRIBOO, a Wii U game with an innovative gameplay planned for late 2013, will mix-up defense-game, action-game and god-game, in an offbeat tropical universe, surrounded by funny characters.

After hitting its funding target in less than two days, Mighty No. 9 has already reached its first Kickstarter stretch goal. The game will now include two more stages after the campaign managed to raise $1.2 million.

Up next for Mighty No. 9 are Mac and Linux versions at $1.35 million. Other stretch goals include New Game Plus and Turbo modes at $1.5 million, a making-of documentary at $2 million, and consoles versions at $2.5 million.

NG.DEV.TEAM is now an official, licensed Nintendo developer. The company’s first order of business? Bringing Gunlord to Wii U and 3DS.

Gunlord was actually released on the Neo Geo and Dremacast. Now the team will be looking to take advantage of the features provided on Nintendo’s systems.

Here’s the official game overview:

Gunlord is a “eurostyle platformer” with emphasis on exploring huge worlds and blasting off enemies. This game features 10 stages of exciting 2D game play with over 45 unique enemy types. Blast yourself through giant landscapes, explore caverns and reveal tons of secrets!!

Gunlord will feature an increased field of view – 400×240 – on 3DS and a 16:9 display on Wii U. The 3DS version will feature stereoscopic 3D visuals while the Wii U release will incorporate off-TV play and an optional retro style TV scan line effect. Both will contain reworked difficulty, an easy difficulty level, reworked controls, and an auto mapping function on the touchscreen/GamePad.

NG.DEV.TEAM has taken to Indiegogo to help fund development on the Wii U and 3DS. The company’s campaign has a 50.000€ goal. Remember, unlike Kickstarter, the team will receive all funds even if the target isn’t met.


The wait has certainly been long, but Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara is finally heading to the North American Wii U eShop this week. Capcom confirmed that the game will be launching on September 5. Europe will be getting the game on September 12.

A new update for Mighty Switch Force! Hyper Drive Edition has arrived in Europe, WayForward has confirmed. The patch fixes “a few bugs” with the eShop game.
