Update: Nintendo confirms that the update can take up to an hour to download. We’ve also posted the full firmware details below.
Nintendo has just launched the long-awaited Wii U update. It’s the first of two big firmware upgrades planned for the system. A second update will be released for the Wii U sometime this summer.
A number of improvements and features are added through today’s firmware release. Most importantly, system load times have been dramatically improved. It is also now possible to copy save data and boot straight to Wii mode by holding down the “B” button when turning on the console.

Rumor: Next Scribblenauts to throw DC license into the mix

Warner Bros. and 5th Cell are gearing up for a new Scribblenauts that incorporates the DC license, according to an IGN report. The game is rumored to be arriving on the Wii U, 3DS, and PC.
Scribblenauts Unmasked was one of the names being thrown around internally. Max is returning once again for this latest outing, who is out to help a variety of DC superheroes.

Walters also shared that he believed most players did not have a problem with the ending to Mass Effect 3, but rather a smaller group of very loud individuals took to the internet and caused something of a ruckus about it. I think some folks might disagree with that, but who knows… maybe those folks are part of the minority he’s talking about!?
Sniper Elite V2 dated for Japan, details

Sniper Elite V2 is heading to Japan on July 18. 505 Games is publishing the shooter in the west, but Ubisoft picked up the game for release in Japan.
Included in today’s Japanese announcement is a confirmation that Sniper Elite V2 will support off-TV play. When used with the TV, however, the map and weapons are presented on the GamePad, enabling fast switching through the screen.
The original release of Sniper Elite V2 originally featured the online co-op mode known as “Kill Tally”. In the Wii U version, this can be experienced through single-player.
Wii Karaoke U video features Neon Genesis Evangelion, Aki Yashiro

Nintendo published a new promo video today for Wii Karaoke U. The video incorporates music from Neon Genesis Evangelion – specifically the theme “A Cruel Angel’s Thesis.” Yashiro Aki, known for her singing and jazz talents, is also featured in the promo.
Rayman Legends dated for North America and Europe

Update: Ubisoft now tells Joystiq that Rayman Legends is hitting North America on September 3.
Rayman Legends will be available slightly earlier than expected. Ubisoft announced today that its platformer will be hitting North America on August 27 followed by Europe on August 30. Rayman Legends was previously expected in September.
