Miyamoto: More people will understand Wii U’s purpose as they get more familiar
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Podcast Stories, Wii U | 0 comments
The Wii U hasn’t managed to catch on like the Wii. Nintendo’s last console had a simple premise: pick up the controller, swing away, and you’ll be good to go. Unlike the Wii remote, the GamePad is a much more complex device.
So while there may be skepticism surrounding the Wii U, Shigeru Miyamoto believes that people will begin to understand its purpose more as they familiarize themselves with what it has to offer.
He told CNN:
“There was a period when we first released the Nintendo DS that people would say there’s no way people can look at two screens at once. I almost feel like, as people get more familiar with Wii U and these touchscreen interfaces, that there is going to come a point where they feel like ‘I can’t do everything I want to do if I don’t have a second screen’.”
Miyamoto continued, discussing the Wii U’s wide array of functions:
“I feel a device like Wii U, with its ability to continue to offer new features and that network connection and the connection to the TV and the interface, really makes it feel that it’s more than just a game machine, but something that offers a lot of practical use and practical purpose in the living room. I look at it as being a very useful device that can do many different things and therefore really seems to be the device that’s ideal to have in the living room.”
SEGA has “fantastic developments” in store for Wii U
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Podcast Stories, Wii U | 0 comments
With Aliens: Colonial Marines’ Wii U cancellation, SEGA has no new games on the way for the platform… so it would seem. But not so fast! The company tried softening today’s news “blow” with a tease that it has “some fantastic developments for Wii U in the pipeline”. SEGA didn’t specify when it would be making any announcements.
A statement from SEGA reads:
“We are constantly looking at all areas of our business and in this case have made the decision to not continue development of the Wii U version. Rest assured that we have some fantastic developments for Wii U in the pipeline which we will announce at a later date.”
When it comes to Aliens: Colonial Marines, I can imagine that SEGA believed that publishing a new version of the game wouldn’t be viable at this point. It’s just not a good product, and it would have very likely bombed on Wii U.
Tales producer says Wii U is “brilliant”, but no plans for the console
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii U | 0 comments
Namco Bandai came right out of the gate with a Tales game for the 3DS when it launched. The same can’t be said about Nintendo’s new console, the Wii U.
While series producer Hideo Baba appreciates the system – calling it “brilliant” – he told Kotaku that Namco Bandai and the Tales team “don’t have any development plans to make any Tales of games for the Wii U.”
Baba said:
“I think the Wii U is a brilliant console that offers a lot of innovation and possibility for new types of gameplay. However at this current time we don’t have any development plans to make any Tales of games for the Wii U.”
Namco Bandai did release two Tales games on the Wii’s successor: Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World and Tales of Graces. The latter never launched overseas, but it eventually received an upgrade on the PS3 under the new name Tales of Graces F. It released in both North America and Europe last year.

Mega Man composer working on a few tracks for Shovel Knight

It’s as though the news about Yacht Club Games’ Shovel Knight can’t stop getting better! The wonderful-looking 2D platformer hit its Kickstarter goal, the dev team is working to add in new features as we speak, the soundtrack is largely composed by the extremely talented Jake Kaufman, and today we learned that Manami Matsumae– partial composer of games like Mega Man and Mega Man 10— will be lending her talents to the game, though in what fashion specifically we do not know.
This game looks like it’s going to be quite a treat for platforming fans!
SEGA confirms cancellation of Aliens: Colonial Marines for Wii U
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Podcast Stories, Wii U | 0 comments
SEGA has finally confirmed what most had expected at this point: Aliens: Colonial Marines has been cancelled for Wii U. A company representative said in a statement:
“SEGA can confirm that the Wii U sku of Aliens: Colonial Marines is no longer in development.”
It is a bit of a shame seeing that Aliens: Colonial Marines is no more on Nintendo’s console when you consider that Demiurge Studios did put in effort in order to make the game. In the end though, Wii U owners won’t be missing much…
