Chris Pratt on voicing Mario in upcoming movie, says it’s “unlike anything you’ve heard in the Mario world before”
Chris Pratt has again commented on voicing Mario in the upcoming animated movie, stating he’s delivering a performance “unlike anything you’ve heard in the Mario world before”.
Pratt told Variety:
“I worked really closely with the directors and trying out a few things and landed on something that I’m really proud of and can’t wait for people to see and hear. It’s an animated voiceover narrative. It’s not a live-action movie. I’m not gonna be wearing a plumber suit running all over. I’m providing a voice for an animated character, and it is updated and unlike anything you’ve heard in the Mario world before.”
After the casting news was announced last year, Pratt said he and the team had “been working hard” on the voice and he was exciting about becoming “the voice of that video game that I dreamed of when I was a kid.”
Chris Meledandri, the co-producer of the film and boss of Illumination, defended his decision to have Pratt play Mario earlier this week. He also confirmed that the project is 75 percent complete. You can read those comments here.
The Super Mario animated movie is on track to debut in April 2023. It was previously planned for this December before being delayed.
