Super Mario movie

More talk about the The Super Mario Bros. Movie has continued to pour out following the release of yesterday’s trailer, including a mix of both news and rumors.

One of the big talking points concerns Princess Peach. Although she wasn’t seen in yesterday’s trailer, we may have our first look in any case. An image surfaced on social media showing Mario, Toad, and Peach – and may believe it to be legitimate. Here’s a look:

The very first trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie has come in as part of today’s Nintendo Direct. Those in attendance at New York Comic Con were also able to get a first look.

Super Mario Bros. movie New York Comic-Con

The first teaser trailer for the Super Mario Bros. animated movie will be shown at New York Comic Con, it’s been announced.

Those attending the expo will be able to see the video on October 6 at 4 PM. Presumably the video will be posted online later on – if not the same day, it should be live not too long after that.

Original: Illumination Studios Paris has recently updated their official website page for the upcoming Super Mario movie, and this has led to a few interesting details popping up. First of all, the title of the film is listed as “Super Mario Bros. Animated Film”, which means “Super Mario Bros.” is likely just a working title. More interestingly though is the given release date.

While the date on the left lists Holiday 2022, an outdated release date that was changed to April 2023 a few months ago, the right side lists a new date of “holiday 2023”, possibly indicating that the movie has once again been delayed, this time from its previously mentioned April 2023 release.

chris pratt mario movie updated

Chris Pratt has again commented on voicing Mario in the upcoming animated movie, stating he’s delivering a performance “unlike anything you’ve heard in the Mario world before”.

Pratt told Variety:

In an interview with Variety, Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri defended the decision to have Chris Pratt play the role of Mario in the upcoming Super Mario animated movie.

Some have felt that it was the wrong move given how Pratt isn’t Italian. However, Meledandri believes strongly in his performance.

The Mario movie is coming out next year and while very little is known about it, its delay in April hasn’t given Nintendo fans a lot of confidence in the production. Of course, it’s too early to tell if it will be a good movie or not, but what is interesting to discuss is what other Nintendo properties would be good movies.

When we consider this, it’s fair to ask – what makes a “good” movie? Is it the plot, memorable characters, an amazing soundtrack, or lots of Morbin’? I would say all that helps (especially the Morbin’), but when it comes to conceptualizing a movie from a video game, there’s a greater thing to consider: how does the core premise fits into a cinematic wrapper?

mario movie luigi

Charlie Day appeared on one of the latest episodes of Jimmy Kimmel Live and was asked about being involved with the upcoming Super Mario animated movie in which the actor is playing Luigi. Unfortunately, he couldn’t say a whole lot.

According to Day, the movie is “top secret”. It also looks like he’s currently in the recording process as he had recorded lines that morning. Other than that, we learn that the actors are recording individually rather than together in a group.

The full exchange between Day and Kimmel regarding his involvement in the Super Mario Bros. movie as Luigi is as follows:
