Dragon Quest XI S – surprise teased for January 1, upcoming stream, new element, site open

We have a bit of additional news on Dragon Quest XI S coming out of the game’s Jump Festa 2019 stage show earlier today.
First, some sort of surprise is planned for January 1. Square Enix didn’t elaborate further on this and it’s unclear how and when it will be shared.
Something more concrete is a newly-announced “Dragon Quest XI Channel S” live stream set for sometime in January. Game designer and scenario writer Yuji Horii, producer Hokuto Okamoto, and others will be appearing during the event. Square Enix will be hosting the live stream on YouTube and Niconico.
During the Jump Festa stage show, Horii and Okamoto touched on another new element for Dragon Quest XI S. We have their comments below, but be warned that some may consider the statements to be spoiler territory.
“In the game’s story you can marry [redacted due to spoilers], but I thought that people would want to choose from various characters, so we’ve added that. While it isn’t marriage, you can even choose Erik or Hendrik – so you can choose the person you live with.” – Horii
“You can choose the partner you live with.” – Okamoto
