Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope Luigi character guide

Nintendo Everything has created a series of character guides for Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, looking at the best skills to acquire, party members to use with them, and Sparks to give them to maximize their potential. This is a guide for Luigi.

Mario’s brother returns to help him once again, and as you might expect, Luigi is one of the game’s most powerful units in the right situations. Although he has extremely low HP comparatively, Luigi boasts some of the highest damage output at long range, and has his own variation of Mario’s Hero Sight ability in Steely Stare. With the right support, he is a solid addition to any team.

What skills are best for Luigi?

When building Luigi for combat you will want to prioritize the Technique branch of his Skill Tree. Unlock Ghost Bullet as soon as possible, as it will allow Luigi to target enemies through cover with Steely Stare, which makes an already useful ability even more deadly right from the start of the battle. You will also want to invest in Steely Stare Cooldown and Additional Steely Stare Charge. Luigi’s base damage is already considerable, so you may wish to save investing in Steely Stare Damage for later in the game. After this, investing in the Weapon branch of his Skill Tree with the goal of fully upgrading Damage Dropoff, would be the best choice.

As Luigi is a long range character he does not benefit much in combat from the Movement branch of his Skill Tree, but in maps where the objective is to reach a specified point, Movement Range and Landing Range can be helpful in getting him across the map as quickly as possible.

Who are the best party members to use with Luigi?

As a long range character, Luigi is best used with characters that will be getting closer to enemies and can draw their attention away from, as his damage capabilities drop off as the distance between him and enemies decreases. Short-range units like Rabbid Mario are best suited for this, although medium-range units like Mario and Edge can also fulfil this role. Early in the game, a team of Mario and Luigi, using Hero Sight and Steely Stare respectively, can clear the battlefield of enemies very quickly. Whilst against most regular enemies Luigi needs little help with inflicting damage, against stronger foes and bosses he can benefit enormously from Rabbid Luigi’s Weaken Technique if it has been upgraded with Vulnerable as well.

Which Sparks are best for Luigi?

Luigi is an excellent unit to give Sparks like Starburst and Exosphere to, as he will be out of enemy line of fire and his damage output is already at a point where it doesn’t necessarily need a boost from Super Effects. Once you acquire it, Pulser is also a good Spark to give to Luigi, as it will allow him to revive fallen units. If you are using Luigi on smaller maps and find enemies are getting too close to him too quickly, Screech can also be useful in these situations, forcing them away from him and also boosting his critical hit chance. You can also use Etherling instead to hide him from enemies long enough to move him away (and this pairs well with Pulser) but this Spark may be better used on other party members depending on your setup.
