Nintendo new development building delayed

According to a report from Nikkei, Nintendo is likely to delay the completion of its new development center in Japan.

Last year, the company announced that it had acquired land next to its main headquarters in Kyoto. It would be put to use as a new development center. Coming in at about 10,000 meters squared, it was tentatively named tentatively named Corporate Headquarters Development Center Building No 2.

Nintendo originally intended to have the building be 12 stories tall with a completion date targeted for 2027. Based on Nikkei’s report though, Nintendo is apparently considering making it builder. The company is expecting a long-term staff increase. With more floors being added, it would not be ready to go until 2028 or later.

Nikkei further reports that Nintendo hired 130 new graduates during the 2023 fiscal year. That’s a 50 percent increase compared to three years ago.

Shuntaro Furakawa also said: “The development resources required per piece of software are increasing. We would like to maintain the level of recruitment of the past few years.”
