Rumors

The image above comes from an FCC listing filed by Nintendo and Mitsumi last month, but it’s receiving a lot of attention today. Why, you ask? Well, some people are getting the idea that the picture is of a 3DS testbed system and indicates that the portable might feature a widescreen on top. Additionally, the FCC filing contains a request from Nintendo that the system’s contents be kept private for 180 days. However, it should end right before the big Christmas shopping season. Might the 3DS go on sale around that time? Hopefully we’ll find out next month!

Last month, the Wii saw the release of a significant game, Monster Hunter Tri. The title has received heavy marketing from Capcom with television commercials and online promotion. However, there have been a number of questions regarding how well Tri would do overseas as the series has not reached the same popularity in Europe and North America as it has in Japan.

Well, the game apparently sold about 126,000 units in the United States. This is, of course, based on data from NPD. Monster Hunter Tri launched on April 20, so that data includes less than two weeks from sales. Tri didn’t set the sales charts on fire, but Capcom is most likely relatively pleased with how it’s performing so far.

According to the French Official Nintendo Magazine, Ubisoft already has plans for Red Steel 3. The game will supposedly make use of the Wii Vitality Sensor, the newest Nintendo peripheral. Unfortunately, that was the only detail shared in the magazine.

I do have a few doubts about the validity of this news, however. Red Steel 2 was literally just released and there have been talks of bringing the franchise to the PS3/360. I’d love for this information to be true, but until Ubisoft makes some sort of announcement (or confirms that this is fake), keep your fingers crossed.

Rumor has it that two new Wii bundles will soon be available at GameStop. Apparently the store will have a black and white console in stock which contains a copy of Wii Sports Resort/Wii MotionPlus. The new products will be available on May 9th for $199.99. The current Wii SKU, which only comes with Wii Sports and a Wiimote, will be discontinued when the bundles go on sale. Keep in mind though that this is information has yet to be confirmed by Nintendo and GameStop.

Sadly, there is a rumor going around that two of Nintendo’s biggest releases this year – Metroid: Other M and Sin and Punishment: Star Successor – have been delayed. The Sin and Punishment sequel will allegedly be pushed back to June 27th, but Other M has been left without a specified date. According to Best Buy and Walmart listings, both titles will indeed be delayed, but nothing is official yet. We asked Nintendo if there is any truth to the speculation, though we were simply told that the company “doesn’t comment on rumors or speculation.”

HMV has listed James Bond: Bloodstone on their website, hinting that an announcement from Activision is on the way. The listing states that the game is in development for Wii, as well as the PS3 and Xbox 360. Strangely though, the title is supposedly in the racing genre. Bizarre Creations has been rumored to be developing a new James Bond project since 2008 that would mix driving elements with first-person or third-person gameplay. Might Bloodstone be that game? Only time will tell!

In 2009, a forum member on Vandal Online claimed to have information about the next Resident Evil title for Wii. When the message was posted, the game supposedly had been in development for more than a year. According to the “insider”, it would be a spin-off, but it would feature a mix of third-person exploration/tension elements and on-rails shooting segments.

Fast-forward a few months later (Thursday) and another member says that the game was at Captivate this past week. Obviously, none of this means anything until we receive a confirmation. There is a small amount of credibility to the rumor, however, as the information comes from the same person who leaked details about Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles. It should also be noted that Capcom recently said that the company has unannounced games in the works for the Wii/DS and that fans should look out for Captivate for announcements. Oh, and there’s apparently a big announcement coming this month. But, still, I repeat what I said earlier – Take this as a huge grain of salt until next week.

As promised, Level-5 has revealed a new game in this week’s Famitsu. Kind of. Apparently, the magazine interviewed Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino in the latest issue, who announced that the company is working on a new game called Time Traveler. The thing is, Hino wouldn’t exactly say what platform it’s for and seemed to avoid revealing further information when the 3DS was brought up.

We’re already aware of the fact that TOSE has been asked to create numerous titles for the 3DS. Is Level-5 working on the system as well? In any case, we’ll let you know more about Time Traveler is any actual game details come in.

Zangeki no Reginleiv is one title that I’ve never really thought had a chance to be localized. It’s violent, slightly obscure, and it just seems like a game that Nintendo wouldn’t bring over to North America or Europe. But perhaps there is a chance that it’ll be localized. Well, in Europe at least. Apparently a European Nintendo magazine claims that the game will be released this summer.Since we haven’t heard anything official from Nintendo, however, it’d be best to consider this a rumor for now.
