Super Mario RPG Monster List

New to the recently-released Super Mario RPG remake is a Monster List that tracks every single enemy in the game. When you encounter an enemy, it’s automatically added to the database. However, its entry is not complete until you successfully use Mallow’s Thought Peek spell on it. Several enemies have missable Thought Peek entries – luckily, there’s an NPC in Booster Pass hidden in a cliff who will sell you new Monster List entries in exchange for three Frog Coins. Feel free to check out our Frog Coin farming guide before you continue here.

Super Mario RPG Monster List Guide

Our Super Mario RPG Monster List guide contains every single enemy in the game. We’ve grouped them all by location, so if you’re missing an entry you can head to that place and try to find it. If the enemy in question only has a single chance to get a Thought Peek entry, we’ll list that too. As mentioned before, if you miss your chance, you’ll have no choice but to pay three Frog Coins to fill in its entry at Booster Pass.

Early-Game Monsters

Super Mario RPG Monster List Guide

Mario is all by himself for the first section of the game. In other words, it’s impossible to have Mallow in your party at this stage, therefore it’s impossible to unlock their Thought Peek entries. When you visit the NPC in Booster Pass, he’ll automatically unlock these entries for free.

Standard Monsters

These are pretty much the rest of the entries on the Super Mario RPG Monster List. There’s a ton of them, and toward the end we start getting into spoiler territory. If you haven’t beaten the game yet and don’t want to know the identity of future bosses and rematches, you might want to bookmark this page and come back later. As mentioned earlier, enemies that only give you one chance to use Thought Peek on them will be labeled as such.

Certain enemies have been marked above with an asterisk. In the case of Shy Ranger, it’s an incredibly fast enemy that flees the battle immediately unless you have Geno equipped with speed-boosting items. As a result, you might be better off waiting to purchase its entry with Frog Coins instead. Bosses that are fought multiple times, like Croco, also have multiple entries. In Booster’s case, you have to lose the mini-game to fight him, which means you can’t get Booster’s Charm. That’s another case where you might as well hold off and buy the missing entry.

Endgame and Postgame Monsters

This part of the Super Mario RPG Monster List is reserved for enemies and bosses you’ll find in the post-game. A good chunk of these are missable, so you’ll definitely have to farm a few Frog Coins to unlock all the entries. It’s important to note that each of the boss rematches has its own individual entry.

Super Mario RPG Monster List notes

Super Mario RPG Monster List Guide

As you can tell, there is an absolutely huge number of enemies in the Super Mario RPG Monster List. Completing it is definitely going to take a while, and some battles – particularly against the Axem Rangers and the Culex rematch – are slowed to a halt when you have to spend six turns using Thought Peek. Fortunately, farming Frog Coins isn’t too bad in this game, and you can check out our guide on that right here.

If you’re having trouble with Thought Peek’s timing, you have to press the A button right when the two spotlights align. Certain battle backgrounds – particularly Culex’s – make the spotlights difficult to see, so in those cases you’ll just need to nail the timing. If you waste too many turns failing the input, it’s probably easier to just buy the missing entries instead.

In any case, thanks so much for combing through this really long list. We have lots of other guides available for Super Mario RPG. In addition to the ones listed above, we also have ones for the initial Culex fight, 100% completing the game, getting 100 Super Jumps, and leveling up. If you have any suggestions for future Super Mario RPG guides, feel free to let us know.
