Donkey Kong Bananza

It goes without saying that Donkey Kong is the star of Donkey Kong Bananza, but young Pauline – who’s 13 years old in the title – is pretty important as well. Aside from accompanying Donkey Kong on his journey, she plays a role in the gameplay.

Now thanks to an interview with producer Kenta Motokura and director Kazuya Takahashi, we have some information about why Pauline is in the game. Having a character journey with Donkey Kong was always a part of the plan. Eventually concept art for the zebra transformation was made, it was prototyped, music was made, and that music was turned into a song.

If you’re wondering why we’re finally getting a new 3D Donkey Kong game with the upcoming launch of Donkey Kong Bananza, you can thank Yoshiaki Koizumi.

According to producer Kenta Motokura, it was Koizumi that made the push. Koizumi was most recently the producer of Super Mario Odyssey. He was also the director of Donkey Kong Jungle Beat.

Motokura told IGN in a new interview:

Donkey Kong Bananza is continuing the trend we’ve been seeing as of late, which is that while it’s coming to Nintendo Switch 2, it was originally planned for Switch 1.

That news comes from Kenta Motokura, the game’s producer. He said that it was always the plan to use voxel tech and consider “lots of different ideas for applications.” However, when Nintendo Switch 2 started to become a reality, the team “realized that the best implementation of these ideas and technology would be on Nintendo Switch 2.”

Director Kazuya Takahashi chimed in on this as well, telling IGN:

July 2: A lengthy Donkey Kong Bananza overview trailer has just dropped, which clocks in at eight minutes. As is tradition for Nintendo, the video is only available in Japanese – but we should receive an English version soon.

Here’s an overview of the game:

Donkey Kong Bananza developer

After plenty of speculation, Nintendo has finally confirmed the developer of Donkey Kong Bananza.

According to the company, the project is being made by the same developers as Super Mario Odyssey. However, no further details has been provided. Many had assumed this to be the case, but it’s nice to have an official confirmation.

A little more into the system’s first month, Switch 2 is getting its next big game from Nintendo. Donkey Kong Bananza is launching on July 17 and we got to hear more about it last week as part of the latest Nintendo Direct.

Donkey Kong Bananza is a pretty big deal. For one thing, it’s the first time we’re seeing a proper 3D Donkey Kong title since the N64 era. On top of that, Nintendo is finally back to working on the series with one of its main teams.

During the Nintendo Direct, we learned about a ton of new stuff. Pauline was officially revealed, we got our first look at transformations, there’s a new amiibo on the way, and much more. We have a full recap here.

Based on what we saw, how are you feeling about Donkey Kong Bananza? Will you be picking it up next month? Let us know in the comments.

Donkey Kong Bananza amiibo

June 18: We’ve just received word that Donkey Kong Bananza is getting amiibo support, and as part of that, a new figure with Pauline is on the way.

By using the Donkey Kong & Pauline amiibo, you’ll unlock Pauline’s Diva Dress. Discs will be twice as likely to appear when defeating an enemy if you’re using it.

Donkey Kong Bananza DK Rap

DK Rap will be featured in Donkey Kong Bananza, and Grant Kirkhope – who composed the track – has now commented on its inclusion.

The upcoming Nintendo Switch game will feature tons of different music with many classic tunes set to return. Fans were happy to see that towards the end of yesterday’s Nintendo Direct presentation, the DK Rap was confirmed.

For those that missed today’s Donkey Kong Bananza Direct, an official recap is now available.

Nintendo is covering all of the key points featured in the presentation. There was a lot of news today as we found out about Pauline, gameplay mechanics, amiibo and more.

Here’s the full rundown:

Thanks to today’s Nintendo Direct presentation, we have confirmation that Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong are in Donkey Kong Bananza.

These two are among the series’ most beloved characters. While we don’t know about the extent of their involvement, we at least know they’ll be present.
