Nintendo Switch 2 offers plenty of power and has new features like mouse controls and GameChat, but it’s building off the foundations of its predecessor. Partially because of that, some have the belief that it’s not much of an innovation.

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa responded to that claim during a financial results briefing Q&A this week. The big takeaway is that developers have needed “higher hardware processing power in order to realize one of Nintendo’s most important values, ‘proposing new ways to play.'” Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza were cited as two examples “that could not be realized on the Nintendo Switch.” Mario Kart World features an open world with more racers on the track than ever before while Donkey Kong Bananza contains destructible environments.

We’ve seen a few Nintendo Directs over the last few weeks. Another one aired a couple of days ago, which focused entirely on Mario Kart World. The 15-minute presentation went over various modes, features, and more.

The Mario Kart World Direct is almost here, and for those looking to tune in, we’ve got a dedicated post for the live stream. Look for the broadcast to kick off at 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET / 2 PM in the UK / 3 PM in Europe. The event will be about 15 minutes long.

We were given a pretty good look at the game during the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct and Treehouse: Live just a couple of weeks ago, but Nintendo clearly has more to say. If there’s anything significant, we’ll pass it along on the main site. Nintendo should also provide us with an official recap announcement after the event which we’ll share as well.

April 2: A Mario Kart World Direct is on the way, Nintendo has announced. The presentation will take place on April 17 at 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET / 2 PM in the UK / 3 PM in Europe.

Mario Kart World was fully revealed today, but it’ll have its own dedicated presentation later in the month. Fans looking for more information about it will want to tune in.

Mario Kart World reportedly has a 120FPS mode

Nintendo will be introducing games supporting 120 frames per second on Switch 2, and based on what we’re hearing, Mario Kart World is one such title that will make use of that.

Only a few whispers are out there at the moment. One of the main sites reporting on this is Engadget, following a hands-on session. The site writes: “Racing has never looked this smooth on any Nintendo console and this game might be the best first-party showcase of the Switch 2’s upgraded display and performance.”

In light of recent controversy surrounding Nintendo Switch 2 pricing – and the cost of games in particular – VP of product and player experience Bill Trinen has weighed in on the situation.

Arguably the biggest issue right now is Mario Kart World, which sots $80 on its own. Trinen indicated that the game has a lot of value with a lot of meat on its bones, believing many will “find this to be probably the richest Mario Kart experience they’ve ever had.”

Mario Kart World leaks Rainbow Road

In what will come as a surprise to no one, Mario Kart World will indeed feature Rainbow Road.

Rainbow Road has been a staple of the series going back to its original incarnation on the SNES. However, we now appear to have our first official look for Mario Kart World, though that seemingly happened by accident.
